The document differentiates four key pairs of terms used in education:
1. Assessment involves gathering evidence over time to determine if a student has learned a skill, while evaluation provides information to make decisions about programs, teachers, students, and goals.
2. Formative evaluation identifies flaws in a program as it is being implemented, while summative evaluation assesses the outcomes of a completed program.
3. Mental skills involve knowledge and intellectual abilities in the cognitive domain, while manual skills comprise physical movement and motor skills in the psychomotor domain.
4. Measurement uses standardized tools to quantify physical qualities, while evaluation provides information to make decisions about programs, teachers, students, and goals.

ACTIVITY 5
Differentiate each of the following pairs; examples may be cited to further clarify the meaning:
1. Assessment and Evaluation
Assessment is the process of gathering evidence of a student's performance over time
in order to assess whether or not they have learned and mastered a skill. Dialogue logs, notebooks, written works, portfolios, examinations, and other learning activities can all be used as examples of proof of learning. The process of evaluation, on the other hand, is meant to give knowledge that will assist us in making a decision regarding a certain circumstance. Instructional programs, school projects, teachers, students, and educational goals are all examples of evaluation targets.
2. Formative evaluation and Summative evaluation
Formative evaluation is a method of evaluation the value of a program while it is still in
progress. This type of evaluation focuses on the procedure. Its main goal is to identify flaws so that appropriate interventions can be made. Summative evaluation is a method of evaluation the program's worth at the conclusion of the program's activities. The emphasis is on the outcome. Questionnaires, survey forms, interview/observation guides, and tests were used to collect data for summative evaluation.
3. Mental skill and Manual skill
Mental and manual skill are two of the three forms of learning, according to skillportal.co. The cognitive domain, often known as mental skills, is concerned with knowledge and the development of intellectual abilities. This involves recalling or recognising certain facts, procedural patterns, and concepts that aid in the development of cognitive talents and skills. The psychomotor domain of manual skills, on the other hand, comprises physical movement, coordination, and the use of motor-skill regions.
4. Measurement and Evaluation
The process of determining or characterizing the qualities or characteristics of physical
things in terms of quantity is known as measurement. We utilize a standard tool to determine how long, heavy, hot, voluminous, cold, quick, or straight anything is when we measure it. A ruler, scale, thermometer, or pressure gauge are examples of such devices. The process of evaluation, on the other hand, is meant to give knowledge that will assist us in making a decision regarding a certain circumstance. Instructional programs, school projects, teachers, students, and educational goals are all examples of evaluation targets.
