Chassis Layout
Figure 2-2 shows the chassis layout of the MA5606T.
Service board 3
The fans are installed on the left side of the chassis for heat dissipation.
The MA5606T has four board slots, of which:
! Slot 0 is located on the upper left side of the chassis. It houses the power supply board.
! Slot 1 is located on the upper right side of the chassis. It houses the main control board.

In the QinQ application, the packet transmitted in the backbone network has two layers of
802.1Q tags: a public VLAN tag and a private VLAN tag.
Figure 3-3 illustrates the implementation of QinQ, as introduced below:
! At the user side
The enterprise user traffic adopts xDSL access and is delivered in the VLAN mode. As
shown in Figure 3-3, the users of VLAN 1 and VLAN 2 can access the MA5606, on
which QinQ is enabled. The MA5606T adds a public VLAN tag (VLAN 3) to the user
packet, and forwards the packet to the upstream network.
! At the network side
In the backbone network, the packet is transmitted using the public VLAN tag. After the
packet reaches the MA5606T on the other side of the backbone network, the MA5606T
removes the public VLAN tag from the packet, and passes the packet to the equipment at
the user side.

In this scenario, triple play users are connected to the MA5606T through the home gateway.
The MA5606T provides voice service, data (Internet access) service, and video service to the
users.
! Voice service
After having passed the home gateway, VoIP packets reach the MA5606T. The
MA5606T then transmits the packets to the NGN network, or transmits the packets to the
PSTN network through a trunk gateway (TG).
! Data service
Data packets from PCs are transmitted to the MA5606T through the home gateway, and
then to the IP network in the upstream direction after being processed by the BRAS.
! Video service
− Video service is delivered over IP multicast traffic, supplying users with various
program sources.
− The MA5606T manages the multicast users' authorities and the programs based on
IGMP proxy and controllable multicast. After the users have passed the
authentication, the MA5606T transmits the IGMP protocol packets to the equipment
at the convergence layer.
− The video server transmits the video service traffic to the MA5606T through the
backbone network and convergence network. The MA5606T forwards the traffic to
the user terminals based on the authentication results.
− At the user end, the set top box (STB) is used to terminate video signals, perform
media conversion, and control program switching.

MA5606T
4.3.2 Characteristics
The N2000 provides the following functions for you to manage the MA5606T.
Fault Management
The N2000 offers an overall network alarm management solution that enables fast fault
locating and troubleshooting.
Security Solution
The N2000 manages the network based on different user authorities and different domains. It
can categorize users' authorities based on users, user groups, operations, applications or ACLs.
It can enable automatic lock, forced disconnection, and user operation logging on the clients.
Database Management
The N2000 provides a tool to back up or recover the EMS database. This enhances security of
the system data.
The N2000 also provides a monitoring terminal to monitor the running status of the EMS
server and the usage of the EMS database.
In addition, the N2000 supports the remote dual-system backup scheme to ensure the safety of
the database.
Abundant Ports
The N2000 provides various southbound network interfaces such as Telnet, SYSLOG,
Man-Machine Language (MML) and SNMP to support different management objects and rich
element management methods.
The N2000 also provides standardized northbound interfaces such as SNMP and TL1. They
offer automated alarm, topology, and data restoration functions to the OSS and the EMS
system. This helps the carriers set up an overall support platform for the network monitoring
and automated service provisioning.
Configuration Management
You can configure the following services of the MA5606T on the N2000 to improve its
operability and manageability:
! DSLAM access
! Multicast service
! Triple play service
! Private line service
! QoS/ACL
See Table 4-1.

MA5606T MA5606T
Advantages
! Flexible networking
! Saving resources because no additional device is required
Disadvantages
The traffic generated in maintenance occupies the service channel, making it impossible to
maintain a managed device when this device is faulty.
Outband Mode
Definition
Outband mode refers to a network mode for network device management implemented
through a communication channel provided by a special device rather than by the managed
device.
Network topology

Advantages
! Channels for device management are more reliable than those in the inband mode.
! The N2000 can timely locate the faults occurred to a managed device, and monitor the
managed device in real time.
Disadvantages
An additional device is required to provide maintenance channels independent of the service
channels.
