A Detailed Lesson Plan in Physics UAM

This lesson plan is for a 50-minute science class on uniformly accelerated motion in the vertical dimension. The teacher will begin with a review of the previous lesson and motivation through pictures. Students will then define key terms like gravity and acceleration due to gravity. The teacher will present the concepts and equations for calculating velocity, height, and time during free fall motion. Examples will be worked through step-by-step with student participation. To conclude, the teacher will ask summarizing questions and relate the concepts to real-life situations. Students will complete an individual evaluation with sample problems to solve. The assignment is for students to research projectile motion.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 9

I. Objectives

At the end of the 50-minute lesson, 85% of the students are expected to do the following with 90%
level of proficiency:
a. describe the Uniformly Accelerated Motion in Vertical dimension
b. analyze and solve sample problems
c. participate actively in the class discussion
II. Subject Matter

Topic: Uniformly Accelerated Motion in Vertical dimension

Reference: Teacher’s Manual and Learner’s Module Science 9, pp. 237-241
Materials: book, visual aids, pictures, and chalks
III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activity

Greetings:
- Good Afternoon, class! - Good Afternoon, ma’am!
Prayer:
- Okay, _____ kindly lead us in prayer. - “Let us bow our heads and feel the
presence of the Lord…”
Checking of attendance:
- Who are the absents for today? - (Class monitor) None, ma’am.

B. Developmental Activity

- Last time, we discussed about

Uniformly Accelerated Motion in
Horizontal dimension. Again, what
are the units involved in UAM in
horizontal dimension?
- m/s, m/s2, m and s maam.
- Yes ______?

- None, ma’am.
- Okay, Very Good! No questions
about the past topic?

C. Motivation

- Before we proceed to our next lesson, - Yes, ma’am!

I will show you some pictures and
you will define each.
- (Students) Gravity ma'am.
- First picture (Picture of floating
astronaut)

- Based on your knowledge, Can - Gravity is a force which tries to pull

anyone give us the meaning of two objects toward each other.
gravity?

- Okay, Very good.

- Next picture. (-9.8 m/s2) - Acceleration due to gravity constant

value ma'am.
- What does 9.8 m/s2 means? - It is the force of gravity produces in all
free falling objects.
- Okay. Your classmate is correct.

- Based on the pictures shown and with

the definition you gave, What do you
think is our lesson all about?

- Yes, _______? - Uniformly accelerated motion in

vertical dimension ma'am.
- Yes Very Good!

- For today’s topic, we will discuss

Uniformly accelerated motion in
vertical dimension. Do you have any
idea about it?

- Yes, _______? - In vertical we said that gravity acts on

our objects and give it negative
- Okay, Very Good. acceleration “-9,8m/s²”. This means
that, our velocity decreases -9,8m/s² in
- Uniformly accelerated motion in each second.
vertical dimension said that gravity
acts on our objects and give it
negative acceleration which is -9.8
m/s2. This means that velocity
decreases -9.8 m/s2 in each second.

- I have a question class. Is the rate of

gravity the same for all objects on
earth?
- No maam because objects has different
- Yes, ______?
weight and mass.
- Okay. Actually, all objects free fall at
the same rate regardless of their
mass. Because the 9.8N/kg
gravitational field at Earth's surface
causes a 9.8 m/s/s acceleration of any
object placed there, we often call this
ratio the acceleration of gravity.

- Do you understand class? - Yes maam.

- Okay,Very good.

- We have different equations that we

will use in computing the velocity,
height and time for free fall or
downward motion. Here are the
equations.

vi= vf+ agt

h= vit + agt2
_______

2
vf= vi+ agt

- What do you think are these - In calculating the velocity and height
equations for? ma'am.

- Okay, Very Good!

- (give the unit and symbols of each
value by asking the students)
- Yes ma'am.
- Did you get it class?

- Now, let us try to solve this problem.

(Problem written in manila paper)
Class, analyze the problem.

- Anyone in the class can give us the

given?
- (Student wrote the given on the board)
- Yes ____?

- Yes, Very good.

- How about the unknown or what is

asked in the problem?

- Okay. What equation are we going to

use?
- (Student chose the equation and wrote
- Yes, _____? it on the board)

- Exactly! Based on the problem,

_____ is the unknown that is why we
will use equation __ to solve the
problem.

- Who can solve the problem? Any

volunteer?

- Yes, ____?
- Yes ma'am.
- Do you have the same answer with
____ class?

- Very good.
- (Students will give the given, unknown,
- For the Problem #2, (Teacher posted equation, solution and final answer)
the problem written in a manila
paper)

- Any questions class? - None ma'am

- Okay, Good.

D. Concluding Activity

d.1. Generalization:

- I hope you’ve learned a lot about our

discussion today regarding malaria. I
have my box of knowledge and inside
of this box are questions regarding
our lesson.

- Yes, ____? I know you have - m/s ma'am.

something to share.
(Question: What is the unit of velocity?)
- Very Good, ____.

- Next, Yes _____?

(Question: What is the equation that will - (____ answer)
be used in calculating height?)

- Very Good,____.
- (more questions for the students)

d.2. Valuing:

- Knowing how to calculate and solve

problems and being familiar with the
terms we discussed today, you must
know how to apply your knowledge
about Uniformly accelerated motion
in vertical dimension in a situation
you encounter in life.

- Any questions, class? - None, ma’am.

IV. Evaluation

A. In a one whole sheet of paper, answer the following problems.

1. A stone is dropped into a deep well and is heard to hit the water 3.41 s after being dropped.
Determine the depth of the well.
2. A kangaroo is capable of jumping to a height of 2.62 m. Determine the takeoff speed of the kangaroo.
3. Upton Chuck is riding the Giant Drop at Great America. If Upton free falls for 2.60 seconds, what
will be his final velocity and how far will he fall?

V. Assignment

Research and make an advance reading about projectile motion.
