Arnel helps his father in their bakeshop. They bake 48 cupcakes and 60
cookies. They plan to pack them separately in small boxes.

Write 48 and 60 as a product of its prime factors.

Questions:
1. What did Arnel and his father bake?
2. How many cupcakes were baked?
3. How many cookies were baked?
4. How will you write 48 and 60 as a product of its prime factors.

EXPLANATION:
How do you write a given number as a product of its prime factors?

To write a given number as a product of its prime factors through prime

factorization.

example:

8 10 20 12

2 4 2 5 2 10 2 6
2 2 2 5 2 3
8= 2 x 2 x 2 10= 2 x 5 20= 2 x 2 x 5 12= 2 x 2 x 3

DIG IT UP
Maria baked puto. She wants to pack them in boxes of 8 and 12 pieces.
What is the smallest number of puto/what is the greatest number of puto
that she can pack using the boxes?

1. Who baked puto?

2. What does she want for the baked puto?
3. What is/are asked in the problem?
4. How will you solve it?

EXPLANATION:
 To find the common factors, greatest common factors (GCF), common multiples and
least common multiples (LCM) of two numbers by using the following methods: listing,
prime factorization and continuous division.

example:
1. Listing Method:
Multiples of 8 = 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88, 96
Multiples of 12= 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96
Common Multiples: 24, 48
LCM = 24
GCF = 48

2. By Prime Factorization
8= 2 x 2 x 2
12= 2 x 2 x 3
LCM= 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 24
GCF= 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3= 48
3. By Continuous Division
2 8 12
2 4 6
2 2 3
1 3
LCM= 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 24
GCF= 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 48

PRACTICE:
Directions: Find the LCM and GCF of the numbers by using any of the methods: listing,
prime factorization and continuous division.
1. 15 and 20
2. 16 and 20
3. 3 and 21
4. 17 and 51
5. 36 and 42
