which can help the researchers in broader studies.

Foreign Studies

Mobile phones easily promote collaborative and different types of learning through

their wireless connection to the internet and gives an easy access to information and

social media accounts. In classrooms, mobile phones motivate students to be more

engaged to lesson promoting learner centered participation. This indicates the dynamic

support that the mobile phone has brought to students.

According to Barker, Krull, and Mallinson (2006), The impact of mobile phone

technology on learning are portability, collaborative and motivation enhancing students

and teachers' education system. Mobile phones have an important role in the life of young

adults and students.

The mobile phones have full penetration to anything (Szántó, 2005). A previous

American study also suggest that students use mobile phone for variety of purpose.

Mobile phone help them feel safe, use it for financial benefits or help them manage

their time efficiently and it helps them keep in touch with friends and family members

(Aoki and Downes, 2005).

Ishii (2006) indicated that mobile phones have a variety of features that simply were

not possible years ago. Mobile phones are not just for communication anymore. Students
8

can access the internet, send text messages, check emails, and even video chat others

quite literally from the palm of their hand.

In addition, Scholars body and Ellison (2008) stated that students can access variety of

social network sites from mobile phones.

Local Studies

The mobile phone has fundamentally affected our society, accessibility, safety,

security and coordination of social and business activities. It has become part of a culture

of every region in the world. The uses of mobile phones are numerous and this includes

keeping contact with friends and family members, conducting business and others.

Jhasper Managyo (2017) stated that, Filipinos are using their mobile phones not only

to communicate but also as mobile computers as well, according to a recent market study

issued. TNS, a global customized research company, said in its report that Filipino

consumers are not must using cell phones to call and texting messages and photos, but

also as a means to have internet on-the-go, allowing users to be always online. Of the

38,000 respondents in Metro Manila, 75 percent of the respondents surveyed used mobile

phones to take photos or videos; 45 percent to browse the internet; 44 percent to access

their social networking sites and 37 percent to check their emails.

The study was conducted from November 2012 to January 2013. “Based on the

findings of the study, the increase in various mobile activities & plain the growing trend

of Wi-Fi accessibility in public areas”, said TNS Philippines Managing Director Gary

de Ocampo.
9

The Kaiser family foundation (2005) named today’s youth the m-generation because

of the adolescents’ ability to multitask. Student can use a variety of media devices at one

time.

Chapter 2

This chapter includes the research findings and procedures done by the researchers.

Also, it showcases the survey results presented in graphical forms.

RESEARCH FORM

Applied research is a methodology used to solve a specific, practical issue affecting an

individual or group. It aims to find an evidence for problem or topic that is faced by a

group or organization. The researchers chose this form of research because it provides

information that can be used to help people in their studies by understanding and

analyzing the evidence that will be presented in the research.

RESEARCH METHOD

In this study we used a non-probability sampling technique by conducting a survey in

selected 100 students of City of Bacoor National High School- Salinas giving 25 random

survey per year level.

The researchers conducted this research to know or to verify if mobile phone has an

important role in improving their studies beyond its advantages. Using the quantitative

research, our group used statistical method to collect quantitative data from our research

study. In this research method, the researchers deploy a mathematical framework and a

survey that contains five questions. The selected students in all grade levels are randomly

given a survey sheets for us to know the factors of the advantages of mobile phone usage.

The results from the survey showed that all path coefficients were positive and
14

statistically significant. Above all, the results from the analysis showed that respondents

tend to use mobile phones because of its advantage.

Chapter 3: Summary

Our group conducted a research about the factors that determine the advantages of

mobile phone usage to selected 100 students of CBNHS-Salinas. We provided five

questions and surveyed selected students every year level in our school. These questions

are focused in what way mobile phone become beneficial and if it is really beneficial to

students. It turns out that there are 88% students who have a phone and 12% does not

have phone. It states that there are a lot of students who use phones in their lives. And

also, there are a high percentage of students that are using their phones for searching

information purposes. With that, we classify mobile phones as an advantage for a lot of

students in CBNHS-Salinas. Most of us are using mobile phones. It is widely used

because of its universal benefits like communication, gaining knowledge, artistic uses,

entertainment, etc. For students, we used mobile phones for searching and printing

purposes, news updates and such. We want to know if mobile phones are really beneficial

to selected students of CBNHS-Salinas. The factor that will determine the advantages of

mobile phone is if there is any improvement in their academic performance. It will show

if there is any progress in your studies if you use mobile phones.
