Allocation of Budget for
1 Basic and Social Needs

What is a budget?

A budget is the amount of money set aside for planned expenses. It is a plan
specifying how much money will be spent or allocated during a particular
period.

Budgeting is related to the wise use of family resources. It is based on the

system by which wages or salaries are received and how these are to be spent
by itemizing the needs of the family and how much money is needed to meet
such needs.

It is important in a family to come up with a feasible and practical budget

plan to avoid conflicts and problems at home.

Allocation of Family Budget

A family budget may differ from size and composition, family values and
standards of living. Some families may spend more on food, others on
clothing and education. The values of the family influence its priorities.

3
What’s In

Apply the knowledge that you have learned, write a specific amount to be spent on

Lesson
Manage Family Resources
2 Efficiently

At an early age like you, it is necessary that you need to develop and learn how to

manage your family resources effectively because it prepares you to spend your

available budget wisely and efficiently on the most important needs whether, material

or non-material resources.

There are many ways on how your family can practically budget their resources. It

is important that we know how to budget wisely the available resources of the family.

Setting priorities and goals and checking them constantly should also be considered

in effective budgeting because it changes from time to time.

7
What’s More

Based on the pictures below, list down the five top needs of your family.

money wisely and give priority to what’s more important.

2. Size and composition of the Family – the more members of the family, the bigger
portion of its income will be allocated to their daily expenses.

3. Value of the Family – families with different values, upbringings and priorities
have different ways on how to spend their money.

4. Needs and wants of the Family – needs are the things that we work hard for to
us to survive, wants are less important things that we desire.
