Tle 7/8 Agricultural Crop Production Quarter 4, Week 2, LAS 1

Here are the calculations for the surface areas of the given shapes: 1. Triangle: Surface area of triangle = 1/2 x base x height = 1/2 x 4 cm x 3 cm = 6 cm^2 2. Circle: Surface area of circle = π x radius^2 = π x (1.5 cm)2 = π x 2.25 cm2 = 7.07 cm2 3. Rhombus: Surface area of rhombus = 2 x (length of one side) x (perpendicular distance from center to side) = 2 x 2 cm x 2 cm = 8 cm2 4. Square:

WHY ARE SHAPES IMPORTANT?

A shape is defined as a form of an object or its outline, outer boundary, or surface area. Farm lands
come in different shapes.
Table 1 shows some names of some 2-D shapes (length L and width W), their properties, formulas in
finding surface area.
Activity: Calculate the surface area of the following. Use separate sheet/s if needed.

1. triangle
4. square
base = 4 cm length = L=10 cm
height = 3 cm width = W = 10 cm

2. circle. 5. trapezium
d =3 cm base = 6 cm
top = 3 cm
height = 2 cm

3. rhombus.
base = 2 cm
height = 2 cm
