Industry Overview

Rice has been the most popular and the most consumed staple food in
the world. It is now evident that to invest in any rice-related business
whether rice processing, rice farming, rice hulling and the like will already
have a ready market whether for product or for services.

Filipinos can’t live without rice. In fact, it is always included in all meals in
Filipino everyday life. There would always be a market for rice for most
restaurants, even an average Filipino household would consume rice in
everyday manner. The need for rice will never cease.
2. Executive Summary

Rice and Shine is a rice retail store. It will be registered and will be
situated near the areas of Southwoods and Biñan. We are looking
forward to become one of the biggest rice retail stores in Laguna. To
make it happen, we will secure an appropriate location to help us
achieve this.
We are aware of the existing competition with other retail business, with
this we carried out a research to help us determine the customer need,
with all the findings, we will be able to serve our customers what they
want.
3. Products and Services

We know that our customers will be pleased with the quality of rice
variety that we are about to offer. The products that we will offer our
clients include long-grain rice, short-grain rice (Japanese Rice) and
medium-grain rice, mostly from local farmers in the Philippines and
Thailand.
4. Vision Statement

Rice and Shine is to become one of the most sought-after


successful rice retail and supply stores in Laguna.
5. Mission Statement

Our mission is to set-up a standard rice retail and supply


store business that we will be able to meet the needs of our
potential customers. We intend to ensure our prospective
customers the quality and affordability of our product.
We are also looking forward to expand by having a chain of
rice retail stores in Laguna.
6. Our Business Structure

We are looking forward to setup an average store as a start-


up. Our goal is to setup a business that will be a standard for
other rice retail store business after we became established.
We believe that it is with great effort that we will be able to
reckon on how to become successful in this type of
business.

As a result, we will employ the services of only those that we


are most certain that can function. We would like to hire at
least five employees, one delivery truck. We will ensure that
our staff are qualified to work and will be customer-friendly.

The rice retail store industry has been in the market for many
years. With all the technology nowadays, It has become
easier to market this industry through online ordering, online
deliveries which are now a major part of the rice retail store
business.
8. Sales and Marketing Strategy

We intend to get into this business as soon as we can with


that we will carry on with the following:
- We will put up our own physical store situated nearby
restaurants, residences and other potential customers.
- We intend to have a strong online presence (orders and
deliveries made online)
- We intend to offer cashless and cash-based payments in
our customers’ convenience.
- We will place tarpaulins and flyers in public areas.

Almost everyone eats rice. This makes the market for the
business larger. Our target market includes:

- Restaurants
- Nearby hotels
- Personal friends

We are aware of the high-level competition that exists in the


rice retail store business. To stand out, we have chosen a
location that is accessible to everybody. We also plan to
market this product in our church with over 1000 families as
members. Together with personal friends who also have
their food businesses, we plan to build partnership with them
for us to be their rice supplier. We are also taking into
consideration to get the best brands from top rice suppliers
to get the best quality with affordability.
11. Publicity and Advertising Strategy
Rice and Shine will adopt the following marketing strategies:
 Introduce the rice store by sending letters alongside the
brochure to hotels, restaurants, households and key
stakeholders in Laguna.
 Ensure that we have a wide range of rice from different
brands at all times
 Make use of attractive flyers to create awareness to give
direction to the store’s location
 Position our signage at strategic places around Laguna.
 Leverage on the internet to promote business
 Engage in direct marketing and sales
 Encourage word of mouth marketing (referrals)

12. Pricing Strategy

Aside from quality, one of the key factors that give leverage
to rice stores is pricing. It’s normal for people to look for well-
processed rice at a cheaper price.
We will ensure that the prices of all the brands of rice that
are available in our store are competitive with what is
obtainable among other retail stores in our location.
13. SWOT Analysis
 Strength:
We will be operating on (physical store and online store),
with varieties of payment options, wide range of rice from
different rice production companies from within the
Philippines and Thailand. Our excellent customer service will
count as our strength
 Weakness:
One major weakness is the fact that we are a new rice retail
store and there are also other outlets around the area.
 Opportunities
The fact that we will put up the store in a strategic place—in
one of the busiest streets in Southwoods—provides us with
unlimited opportunities to sell rice
To a large number of individuals and businesses.
 Threat
One of the major threats, just like in any other business is
the economic downturn—that is—the purchasing power of
our targets. Another threat would be another opening of a
new rice retail store near our location.

Here are the key areas where we will spend our startup
capital of Php500,000.00 up to Php1,000,000.00:

15. Sustainability and Expansion Strategy
Rise and Shine’s future in business lies in the numbers of
loyal customers, competence of employees, investment
strategies and business structure.
We plan to practice and uphold these in order for the
company to sustain its existence and will survive off its own
cash flow.
After sustaining outlets in several locations, the plan on the
expansion to all parts of Laguna is also being targeted.
