Good morning, everyone! Good morning, sir!

Let us have our prayer first. Requesting all (All students will do as told)
to stand.
Good morning once again. Now since this is

my first time teaching you, I will be

introducing myself first. I am Philip

Concepcion, and I will be your English

Teacher for this school year. Now I have

rules in this class to follow and these are: 1.

Be yourself in class but never forget to show

decency. 2. Don’t be afraid to ask questions,

and 3. If you know something about the

topic, share it to the class. Is that

understood? Yes, sir.

1. Review

What was our topic last meeting? Our topic was about word intonations

sir.

Good! What are word intonations again

class? The rise and fall of the voice in speech

sir.

Very well! I am convinced that all of you

were listening to the discussion. Anyways,

Do you have any questions regarding our None sir.

previous topic?

Very well.
2. Motivation
Does everybody know our National Yes sir.

Anthem?

Yes, I guess everybody is familiar with it.

Now can we all sing the national anthem? (Everybody sings as told)

Ready, Go!

Now, what is the right pronunciation of this

word “magiliw” in our national anthem? Letter c sir!

a.ma’giliw

b.ma’gi’liw

c.magil’iw

What do you think will happen if we will use

letter a. in the song? The lyrics will be of no sense sir.

When we put our stress after the

consonants, what is outcome? When you read it sir it is weird and

the it becomes another word without

very good! This is what we are going to talk meaning.

B. Presentation
(the students will do as told)
I have here a poem written by Alexandra

Vasiliu named “If I were the moon” Let us

all read it as I flash it on my screen. Ready,

go.

It is very nice sir.

How do you find the poem?

Yes, indeed it is short but nice.

So far, none sir.

Are there any words that is new to you in

the poem that we read?

Its good that you are all familiar with the

words that you have read.

Some of us sir.
Have you ever written a poem?
Yes sir, super.
I have too, isn’t it a struggle to find the right

words to use in a poem?

Indeed, it is a struggle.
Also in songs it is difficult to place words

because you have to fit the words in a line

but also having to think about the word

syllabication.

C. Abstraction

Word stress is the emphasis we place in a

specific syllable of a word when pronouncing

it.

Earlier I let you choose what is the correct

pronunciation of the word “magiliw” in our

national anthem. If that word is stressed

differently then it’s pronunciation and

meaning would be changed.

There are some rules in word stressing

would be:

Stress on the first syllable.

Examples:

AP-ple

PRE-sent

HA-ppy

CLE-ver

Most two-syllable verbs and prepositions

Stress on the last syllable.

Examples:

re-QUIRE

pre-SENT

be-TWEEN

Three-syllable nouns

Stress on the first syllable (except words

with long vowel sound: engiNEER).

with long vowel sound: PortuGUESE).

Examples:

with prefixes: reMEMber, conTINue).

Examples:

ra-di-OL-o-gy

Compound nouns

Stress on the first part.

Examples:

Now, words would change in meaning if

proper and accurate stressing is not

followed. When conversing with someone

your stress would be a great factor in

determining what is the intended meaning

of the word being relayed to you.

D. Generalization

Now, do you understand what is the Yes sir, it can helps you understand

importance of word stress class? the intended meaning of the word. It

can change the meaning too

depending on the stress that is

followed by the messenger.

Any questions so far class? None sir.

If none, then let us have an activity

groups and stress the words that are

present in the poem “if I were the moon”
