SERENDIPITY CAFÉ: A Little Bright Restaurant

A Business Proposal Presented to

The SHS Department of PONTEVEDRA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

In Partial Fulfillment of the requirements for the Completion of

Accountancy, Business and Management

Prepared By:

KAYE LALAINE D. ROSALES

July, 2021
CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION

Background and Rationale

There are times that even if the person had already a job, he/she will still manage to think, how

about building their own business? Doing the job that they love is different from the fun that a

side project would give. Everyone knows that a good choice in opening their own business is a

small Café. Well, it's fun and very profitable. They can delegate many of the more time-

consuming tasks, spend as much or as little on it as they want and enjoy the benefits pretty

quickly after opening.

Coffee shop and cafe are two different phrases that tend to be confused by many. Some people

use them interchangeably, and one would really wonder what the difference is between these two

phrases. In simple terms, the line between cafe and coffee shop is actually coffee itself.

Generally, in a coffee shop, coffee is the main focus. You will find different brewing methods,

traditional espresso beverages, and most also have a selection of tea offerings. Officially, a cafe

can also be referred to as a restaurant. In cafes, the main focus is on food rather than coffee,

though most cafes will offer coffee pairings on their menus. On the other hand, because a coffee

shop mostly deals with coffee, it does not have the qualities – like the main focus on food – that

make it possible to be called a restaurant. From the simple definition, a cafe is a type of

restaurant that mainly serves coffee and snacks. The word cafe is a French word which means

“coffee.” A cafe is, therefore, a place where you can relax and take coffee as you read a

magazine or chat with other customers or have a discussion with friends. It is a social interaction

place and they mostly share some characteristics with bars and restaurants. (Shawn Chun, 2020)
Business Proponent

Nowadays, youth are very attached to trends. They wanted to be part of it that is why, they

wanted to try things that will make them part of. The business proponent is one of them and her

dream was to build her own business, so she decided to build her own Café. This is owned by

Ms. Kaye Lalaine Rosales who is in Accountancy, Business and Management strand at the

Pontevedra National High School. She’s a risk taker, opportunity seeker and a proactive person.

Besides, it's already summer and Philippines got a hot weather, building a cafe will be perfect!

Proposed Name of the Business

As the proponent would like to build her own Café, she decided to name it as SERENDIPITY

CAFÉ. Serendipity means the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not

sought for (Merriam-Webster). The goal of this café is centered primarily around customer. It

aims to establish a balance element of negativity and positivity, such as comfort, peace and

privacy.
CHAPTER II: MARKETING ASPECT

Business Logo

This is the logo of Serendipity Café. It has a pastel

color which attracts to eyes of every millennials.

This has a coffee cup that obviously represents a

coffee and as you can see, there’s a mermaid

sitting in a cup. It reflects the zodiac sign (pisces)

of the business proponent. In short, this logo described the owner.

Products Offered

As a restaurant that focuses on breakfast and light lunch, Serendipity Café will have only one

menu that will encompass both meal periods, allowing customers to order either breakfast or

lunch at any time. Specials will feature local and seasonal ingredients and will change as the chef

sees fit. Items on the menu will focus on the familiar and comfortable food that customers are

accustomed to having for breakfast along with favorites from the proprietor’s and chef’s travels.

Geographical Coverage and Target Market

The customer base will come from three main populations, local residents, students at the local

colleges and universities, and people from local businesses. If Serendipity café can capture even

one tenth of a percent of this population it will meet the goals and have an average of 5000

customers per month. Since there is no café in the area many of these customers will become

regulars, making the comfortable elegance even more comfortable. Opening a café that could

potentially serve some of the tourists would bring more money into the Pontevedra’s economy.

Positioning
The marketing plan will be divided into three phases. The first phase will be to do preopening

marketing, such as press packets sent to the media, advertising to local businesses, sending

emails and social media buzz about Serendipity Café’s opening and setting up the Serendipity

Café website. The second phase of the marketing plan is to continue to marketing Serendipity

café as above, but also with a further email campaign. This marketing campaign will be

monitored regularly to assess the effectiveness and make changes as needed. An ongoing

marketing budget annually has been set aside. Also Serendipity Café Group will make use of the

discount websites such as Groupon, and Restaurants.com to gain customers that might otherwise

not try Serendipity Café. The final marketing phase is the point-of-sale marketing, in which

Sunshine Café will use the traditional business card in the fishbowl to build an email list and

give out meals to the winner of our monthly drawing. Since Word-of-Mouth is so important to a

new restaurant, to encourage customers to bring their friends we will also be offering

SERENDIPITY CAFÉ 30 coupons to customers as they pay for a discount if they come back

bringing a friend.

Marketing Strategies

Given the Café market today, having a mixed marketing strategy is imperative to reach all of the

different types of customers Serendipity Café desires. Ideally Serendipity Café will use two main

forms of marketing. Social media marketing using such sites as Facebook and Google+ will be

used to expand our network and bring in more guests using keyword advertising placement and

using such websites as Groupon to build a brand identity and spread through word-of-mouth

advertising. Traditional broadcast media will be contacted by the Public Relations firm to gain

some publicity for the opening of Serendipity Café. Lastly, when opportunities such as charity
fundraising and social responsibility Serendipity Café will be sure to support organizations that

pursue the same beliefs and ethics of the Serendipity Café Group.

Business Location

Bailan is located in the Pontevedra that is part of the province of Capiz. The population density

in the area is approximately 5000 residents per square mile (Barangay of Bailan, 2020). The

ideal location for Serendipity Café would be in the crossing of Bailan. It is the central road for

national high ways of main municipalities like Pontevedra, Panit-an, Maayon and President

Roxas. This would enable much of the population to have access to the Café, and would place

the location close to public transportation, shopping and school. Additionally the location must

have ample free parking and not be too close to Capiz State University of Pontevedra college

landfill that is a simple way to ensure responsible waste disposal of our company. Lastly, we’re
