Pro/Con I 25/24
 FB blocks weakside linebacker
 HB follows FB
 LT blocks RE
 LG and C block nose tackle and middle line backer
 RG blocks DT
 RT blocks the strongside linebacker (unless the SAM blitzes outside the end, which in
that case, he is left unblocked)
 TE blocks LE

V V V V
Pro/Con I 25/24 Counter
 Based off of 25, FB blocks weakside linebacker
 LT blocks RE
 LG pulls to block LE
 C blocks NT
 RG and RT block DT and MIKE
 TE blocks strongside linebacker
 HB takes counter step, receives inside handoff, follows LG then cuts it up or bounces
outside

C W M S C
V V V V

Pro/Con I 26/27
 Used to set up play action
 LT blocks RE
 LG and C block NT and WILL (WILL is not blocked if he blitzes from the outside)
 RG blocks MIKE
 RT blocks DT
 TE blocks LE
 FB blocks SAM
 RB follows his FB

F S

C W M S C
V V V V
Pro/Con I Zip 25/24
 Run against a zone defense to get an extra blocker
 Blocking for the offensive line is all the same
 Z receiver (flanker) goes in long motion (Zip) to the opposite side
 If the corner stays man-to-man with the Z motion, then after the Z motions across the
QB, he should motion back to his original spot because the play will not work against
man coverage (if this happens, a regular pro/con 25/24 is ran)

Pro/Con I Zap 26/27

 Crack-back play primarily used to set up play action pass
 Z receiver comes in short motion (Zap) and blocks SAM
 FB blocks CB
 Blocking for offensive linemen is the same as regular 26/27
 HB follows his FB

C W M S C

Pro/Con I 25/24 (Counter) Pass
 Can be used off of 25/24 or the 25/24 counter, designed to attack the WILL with the play
action and then an underneath route (FB) and an over route (TE)
 FB does a flat route at 2-3 yards
 The X receiver (split end) does a skinny post at 12 yards
 The Y (tight end) does a 8 yard drag route slowly gaining depth
 The Z does a deep drag at about 15-16 and does not cross the middle of the field
 After the fake, the QB’s read progression is:
- FB flat
- TE drag
- X post
- Z drag

Pro/Con I 24/25 Boot/Naked

 FB blocks RE in Boot to protect naked, fakes the 25 in a Naked (QB isn’t protected but
supplies a better fake)
 Y hits the end and does a 5 yard out
 The Z does a fly on the outside hip of the CB
 The X does a drag at 10
 After the fake, the QB’s read progression is:
- TE out
- Z fly
- X drag

Pro/Con I 24 Pass
 Designed to attack the SAM with an underneath route (FB) and the hitch to the outside
(Z)
 Z receiver does a hitch at 10 yards
 Y does a fly
 FB does an outside hitch at 4-5 yards
 X receiver does a fly with an inside release, trying to distract the FS
 After the fake, the QB’s read progression is:
- Z hitch
- Y fly
- FB hitch
- X fly

Pro/Con I Zap 24/25 Pass

 Designed off of Zap 26/27
 FB does a swing route
 Z does short motion (Zap) and does a 10 yard out
 Y does a 5 yard drag
 X does a 10 yard dig
 After the fake, the QB’s read progression is:
- FB swing
- Z out
- Y drag
- X dig
 Pro/Con I Zap 24/25 Pass “Switch”:
- Z does the drag and the Y does the 10 yard out

Pro/Con I Zip 25/24 Smash

 Based off of the Zip 25/24, designed to attack zone defenses
 Just as in the Zip 25/24, if the corner stays man-to-man with the Z, then this play will
not work. In this case, after the Z motions pass the QB, he will motion back to just
outside the Y and the play will be automatically audibled to the Pro/Con I Zap 24/25
Pass (although the Zap motion will not be needed because the Z will already be in
position)
 X receiver does a 7 yard hitch
 Z receiver does a 10 yard corner
 Y does a 5 yard drag
 After the fake, the QB’s read progression is:
- X hitch
- Z corner
- Y drag

F S

C W M S C
V V V V
Pro/Con I Zap 22 Reverse/Fake
 The fake to the Z allows the RE to be left unblocked, allowing the FB to block the FS
 LT blocks the WILL
 LG blocks the NT
 C and RG block the MIKE and DT
 RT and TE block the SAM and LE
 FB blocks the FS
 HB looks for the cutback

F S

C W M S C
V V V V

Pro/Con I 90 (GO)
 Three-step-drop pass designed to get the ball away as quickly as possible
 Z and X receivers do 5 yard slants
 Y does a fly
 HB blocks the SAM if he blitzes; if he doesn’t blitz, then he does a swing route
 FB blocks the WILL if he blitzes
 QB reads the SAM: if he drops straight back, look to hit the Z slant; if he blitzes or
drops back in the flat, look to hit the Y; if they aren’t open, make a quick look to the X
and if he isn’t open, drop it off to the HB on the swing route
 On a “GO” call, the Z and X do slant-and-go’s. QB takes a 5 step drops (he can pump-
fake if necessary at 3rd step) and looks to hit the Z, Y, or X (HB is checkdown receiver)
 Use the “GO” call against defenses that are playing Cover 2: the strong safety will have
to choose between the Y and the Z. Whoever he chooses to cover, the QB will throw to
the other.
