The document describes a 2D geometric modeling experiment in Creo Parametric software. It introduces 2D geometric modeling and the basic commands used to create 2D models like lines, circles, arcs, fillets and chamfers. These commands allow the user to construct geometric models of objects on screen and perform operations like zooming and panning. The document provides an example of a 2D geometric model created using these basic draw commands.

EXPERIMENT NO. 1

AIM:- 2-D Geometric Modeling of an object, demonstrating Boolean operations like add, subtract and
PAN, ZOOM, ROTATE Commands.

2.1 Introduction to 2-D geometric Modeling:-

Geometric modeling involves the use of a CAD system to develop a mathematical description of the
geometry of an object. The mathematical description called a geometric model is contained in
computer memory. This permits the user of the CAD system to display an image of the model on a
graphics terminal and to perform certain operations on the model. These operations include creating new
geometric models from basic building blocks available in the system, moving the images around on the
screen, zooming in on certain features of the image and so on. These capabilities permit the designer to
construct a model of a new product or to modify an existing model.

There are various types of geometric models used in CAD. One classification distinguishes between two-
dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) models. Two dimensional models are best utilized
for design problems in two dimensions, such as flat objects and layouts of building. Three dimensional
CAD systems are capable of modeling an object in three dimensions. The operation and transformations
on the model are done by the system in three dimensions according to user instructions.

2.2 Commands for 2-D Geometric modeling:-

The following are the basic commands used in 2-D geometric modeling.

Basic Draw Commands

CIRCLE: Draws circles of any size.

(pick a center point)
Diameter or <Radius>: (Pick a point on the circle)

LINE: Draws straight lines between two points

Command: LINE (enter)
From Point: (pick a point using the mouse)
To Point: (Pick a point using the mouse)
To Point: (Press return to end the command)

ARC: Draws an arc (any part of a circle or curve) through three known points.
Command: ARC (enter)
Center/ < Start point > : (pick the first point on the arc)
Center/End/ < Second point > : C
Center: (pick the arc's center point)

FILLET: Changes any corner to a rounded corner.

Command: FILLET
Polyline/Radius/Angle/Trim/Method/ <Select first line > : (pick the first line)
Select second line: (pick the second line)

CHAMFER: Changes any corner to an angled corner.

Command: CHAMFER
Polyline/Distance/Angle/Trim/Method/ < Select first line > : (pick the first line)
Select second line: (pick the second line)

2.3 2-D Geometric Model:

The below geometric model is created by using basic commands like line, circle etc in Creo Parametric
2.0 software.
