With the start of invention and innovation, digital transformation was essentially
introduced with the advent of computers in the 1950s. Since then, non-stop innovation
has transformed nearly everything; several digital technologies such as mobile Internet,
artificial intelligence, and so on, have been drastically further developed and has
changed the way we communicate to others, the way our works become more
manageable, how we shop and transact online, and even the way we enjoy ourselves.
This integration of digital technologies into our daily lives is referred to as Digitalization,
a broad term for the digital transformation of society and economy. It depicts the
transition from an industrial age characterized by analog technologies to a generation
marked by digital technologies and digital industry innovation in terms of information
and creativity.
Besides that, Digitalization has enormous positive effects on both society and the
economy, as evidenced by these video clips:
The video depicted a few of the technologies that digitalization has provided. Aside from
that, it has a quote from Charles Darwin about adaptability and how adaptation is a skill
that everyone should be aware of. Learning to adapt to your surroundings is
advantageous because it increases your ability to deal with change and allows you to
see the possibilities of an unanticipated change. Rather than being left out and
struggling to fit in, adapting is the better option. Therefore, digitalization is imperative
because it is a catalyst for change, and it embraces modernity in a good way. Few
examples of these changes/innovations are building modern infrastructure; using cloud
service to reinvent productivity, detecting and managing cyber security threats; using
data analytics to empower decision making; embedding AI to automate business
processes, and understanding how teams integrate technology. That being said, these
products from digitalization have paved the way for better productivity and decision-
making in all types of industries. Overall, the adaptation of most - if not all the numerous
industries worldwide to digitalization has benefitted them in terms of growth, efficiency,
integration, interaction, and less human error.
World Government Summit (April 13, 2017) How is technology changing the
healthcare sector? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM4aep7VXb8
As to what the video clip depicted, technology is fundamentally changing the medical
field. Healthcare providers have begun to acknowledge the significance of treating
patients remotely through the combination of wearable health monitor technologies,
telemedicine, home diagnosis, and even pop-up retail settings. Moreover, many
healthcare organizations are starting to invest in mobile medical apps and wearable
health monitor technologies that will improve the quality of care of healthcare
organizations. It will also allow patients for more timely administration at the comfort of
their homes, reducing the cost of intervention. Undoubtedly, digitalization positively
influences the medical field because looking back in the days when healthcare
professionals did not use technology for health, it was difficult to examine a patient
accurately, but seeing how far our world has progressed technologically, particularly in
the medical field, is incredible. Technological innovation assures people to prevent and
cure illness and access good quality health treatment. On the other hand, as for our
health professionals, technological innovation introduced them to carry out manageable
and accurate works. Therefore, technological advancements have shaped modern
medicine and improved the patient and medical professional experience regarding
where we are now.
It is evident how digitalization gives so many benefits nowadays; however, when there
are positive, there are also opposing aspects about digitalization brought to us.
The video aims to convey the other side of the internet, which has emerged as a result
of the advancement of digital technology which is also the most common way that
people access it. It informs everyone, particularly those who use the internet frequently,
that it is not the safest place to interact with other people around the world, most likely
those you have only met on the internet but not in person because not everyone is who
you think they are. It is extremely upsetting that this is happening, especially in this time
of the pandemic, wherein people are advised to stay at home to prevent the virus
spread. In this case, most internet users prefer to spend more time online with people
they know, which is likely to increase the number of people who use social media and
online dating apps to socialize with strangers for various reasons.
That is not only a problem, but it is also how people make snap judgments based on
how convincing a fake profile appears, knowing that these people may have bad
intentions such as online scamming and human sex trafficking, both of which are
prevalent in this generation. The concept of not knowing how to use the internet
properly demonstrates that people must be addressed, regardless of how the internet
has already made strides to eradicate this wrongdoing by informing users to avoid and
report fake identities, which are becoming increasingly common these days.
According to the video, there are 150 million fake profiles on social media, and it could
be anyone you know. Just because you know someone in real life does not mean they
cannot create multiple profiles and deceive people by pretending to be someone they
are not. It is preferable to understand when and how to use social media and the
internet to avoid these destructive activities in your environment. Aside from that, let this
video serve as a moral lesson to anyone who has experienced something similar, as
well as a reminder to those who have not. Some friend requests are just surveillance
cameras, while others are genuine friend requests.
This video depicts one of the negative effects of digitalization in today's generation: as
the population of social media grows, everything is just a click away, so does the rate of
cybercrime. The same scenario is depicted in this video, in which the girl is exposed to
the dark world of the internet and bullying while sitting safely in the vicinity of her home.
The bully took advantage of the anonymity provided by social media to publicly
humiliate her by posting negative comments on the internet, which left her deeply
traumatized and even drove her to commit suicide. Based on this, we can conclude that
while social media makes it easier for people to meet new people and make new
friends, it also makes it easy for cruel people to tear others apart, which can easily harm
and affect anyone. This video, in an ideal world, would serve as a wake-up call to
ensure that such scenarios are avoided. Everyone should keep in mind that, because
the screen obscures our faces, someone may be rude on social media without realizing
it.
Despite this, we should focus more on the positive aspects of digitalization as it will
shape the future of our society and economy, as well as contribute to individual growth.
