preciate his heroism during the Spanish Era.

Application

• Art surrounds life, all people in every location, without us being aware of
it. Since time immemorial, art has existed as long as man has. It
is a huge part of our culture, which shapes our ideas, and vice versa,
and provides us with a deeper understanding of emotions and
self-awareness.

• Art makes people optimistic about their future. Art can be used to help
spread a message of inspiration, making people achieve great things in
life. Art can be a form of communication between people, to focus on
common issues for the betterment of humankind.

• Art influences society by changing opinions, instilling values and trans-

lating experiences across space and time. Art in this sense is communi-
cation; it allows people from different cultures and different times to
communicate with each other via images, sounds and stories. Art is
often a vehicle for social change.
The Golden mask found in Oton is an art introduced
by Spaniards. They used delicately worked sheets of
gold ornaments to cover the face of the dead. This
great artistic discovery bridges the gaps of the past
and the present art in the Philippines.

The old church of Oton was known as one of the best and the only
one of its style in the entire archipelago. It resembled the Gothic ca-
thedral of Byzantine. Greek and Gothic architectural designs, pat-
terned after a Greek cross capped by a magnificent dome. This shows
us that we have a very artistic past that we must appreciate.

Sandiya festival in Oton is associated with the celebration of

Katagman Festival, where in the local products of Oton are
displayed. Pulo Maestravita, a popular Barangay in Oton pro-
duces most of the biggest and sweetest watermelons in town.
They introduced fruit carving activity to appreciate how tal-
ented Ogtonganons are.

Loom weaving is popular home-based tradition in

the rural area in the Philippines, especially in the
Visayas. It is a kind of textile art during the Spanish
period. This product is known to be the first product
in the locality of Oton that is used for barter.
