1. Main Idea : E-mail (electronic mail) uses computers for communication.
Signal Words : Seconds, Lastly
Examples : Seconds later, they have your message. Lastly, e-mail allows you to
send a single message to many people at the same time.

2. Main Idea : Communicating by e-mail is becoming increasingly populer for many


reasons.
Signal Words : First, Second, Also.
Examples : First, it is a popular way to send messages among people who do no
like to use the telephone. Second, it is useful for sending suggestions or requests.
Also, e-mail messages always look the same, no matter who sends them.

3. Main Idea : One advertising executive explained why he preferred not to use e-
mail.
Signal Words : Because, Since
Examples : Aside from that fact, he disliked e-mail because he felt that it was too
impersonal. Since you do not hear the sender’s voice, you can tell nothing about
them as a person.

1. Topic : Monticello

Main Idea : Monticello is one of the most famous houses in the Unites States,
located on a hill near Charlottesville, Virginia.

Signal Words : One, First, Because, Many.

Example : One of the most famous houses in United States is Monticello. The
house is famous, first of all, because it belonged to a President. Aside from that
fact, he disliked e-mail because he felt that it was too impersonal. Many
American buildings of that time, in fact, imitated European styles.

2. Topic : Houses which full of dangers for small childern.

Main Idea : Most houses are full of dangers for small children and many of the
dangers are obvious.

Signal Words : Many, For example, Other.

Example : Many of these dangers are obvious. Medicine, for example, may not be
harmful for an adult, but may make a child seriously ill. But other dangers may be less
obvious to a parent.
3. Topic : A number of ways to make life more comfortable in the heat.

Main Idea : There are a number of ways to make life more comfortable in heat for
example try to keep your home as cool as possible.

Signal Words : Many, There, First

Example : You could even try a nap after lunch, like many people who live in hot
climates. There are a number of ways to make life more comfortable in the heat.
First of all, you can try to keep your home as cool as possible.
