DIGITAL AND ONLINE SAFETY

We are now living in the 21st century in which technology is evolving and expanding, most
especially in a digital online platform. Almost everyone has access online, there is no age limit, even
the attention of kids who are supposed to be playing outside their homes is not exempted. The
question now is, are we safe online? Do we know what is this platform we are using? Or is anyone
who has access in digital and online are prone to risk? If yes, how can we get through this?

Digital technologies are electronic tools, systems, devices, and resources that generate store,
or process data. Well-known examples include social media, online games, multimedia, and mobile
phones, while online according to Oxford Dictionary it is controlled by or connected to another
computer or a network. Digital or online platform is very popular to everyone because almost all
people in the world are connected with this, but the question here is, are we know on how to use it
properly and safely?

It is important for us to know our limitations in providing information about ourselves and
accessing sites that are not secured for our online safety because according to WebWise being safe
online means that you have the knowledge to identify the potential risks and are conscious of your
security while browsing, sharing, or surfing the internet. By knowing online safety, you are
becoming more vigilant about your safety and you’re becoming a better user of the internet. As
stated in Common Sense Education Internet safety or "e-safety" has become a fundamental topic in
our digital world and includes knowing about one’s Internet privacy and how one’s behaviors can
support a healthy interaction with the use of the Internet.

Digital and Online Safety Tips

1. Keep Personal Information Professional and Limited. Don’t hand pure personal
information out to millions of people online because sometimes it will lead you to
danger when you put too much information about yourself.
2. Practice Safe Browsing. Not all sites we see on the internet are safe. Avoid opening
suspicious sites. Be careful, because sometimes there is a site that is not restricted to be
open, for it contains viruses that will easily hack your account.
3. Use a VPN to secure your connection. VPN enables you to have a secure connection
between your device and an Internet server that no one can monitor or access the data
that you’re exchanging.
4. Be Careful What You Download. Cybercriminal attacks were hidden, they use programs
or apps that carry malware that try to steal information.
5. Be Careful What You Are Posting. Not what you think is good for you can be good to
others. Consider your audiences when it comes to posting something because
sometimes it can lead you to danger.
