Biography
Peter Deunov (later known as Beinsa
Douno) was born on July 11th, 1864
near the Black Sea, son of a Bulgarian
Orthodox priest of singular devotion
and vision. From 1888 - 1895 he
studied medicine and theology in the
USA where he made a remarkable
impression on those who knew him.
Returning to his own country, he
withdrew mainly into the mountains
to prepare for his Divine work.
In 1897 he began his teaching work
and in 1898 issued a ‘Call to My
People.’ In 1900 he set up the
‘Fellowship of Light,’ based on Divine
Love, Wisdom, Truth, Justice and
Goodness. From then on he travelled
throughout the country, teaching and
healing, eventually establishing his
base in Sofia, where a community
gradually grew up around him and
regular lectures were given.
Annual congresses were held in
August and continue to this day in the
Rila Mountains near the Seven Sacred
Lakes. Paneurhythmy (Dance of Life)
was gradually taught to the hundreds
of people who camped there with
him, inspired by his teaching and
presence.
He passed over on the 27th December
1944 leaving a following of 40,000
people. Since then his teachings have
continued to be practiced, most
notably the Paneurhythmy which was
first performed in secret during the 44
years of oppression which he had
predicted, and now openly and
worldwide because of their
remarkable life-enhancing qualities
and evolutionary potential.
The Sacred Power of Mountains

It is of great benefit for people to be

in grand and magnificent mountains,
surrounded by peaks and valleys. The
mountains are reservoirs of energies
which help people to transform their
mental states.
Let the beautiful sights you see in the
mountain leave a vivid impression in
your mind. When you get down in the
valley, let these sights rise up in your
mind. In that way you would get in
touch with the mountain, and its
energy would flow through you and
uplift you.

When you go to the mountains, walk

slowly, peacefully with no hurry. At
every 100 metres stop for a short rest
on foot for about 30 seconds. During
the rest you should receive energy.
The higher you climb, the slower you
will walk. In that way you will become
accustomed to the energies of Nature
and use them properly.

When you go on an excursion choose

the places well lit by the Sun. These
are the southern slopes of the
mountain.

From ancient times up to the present

day, everyone who has worked and is
working in the spiritual field has
visited the high mountain peaks.
People who understand the Laws of
the spiritual world have always made
wise use of the high peaks.
If I let go of a wheel from the top of a
mountain, it will roll down, but it
cannot roll up towards the peak; a
river runs with a rush down from a
mountain peak, but it cannot run up –
in the same way, most people roll and
go down. And only the one who can
climb up the mountain, only such a
person has will – he can remove and
overcome certain obstacles and
contradictions.

When I say that a specific Light should

enter your consciousness, you should
not worry. This Light will come of
itself; you need only climb a high
mountain peak and wait there. You
know that the Sun first illuminates the
mountain peaks, then the valleys, do
you not? In the same way this Light
will illuminate first the peaks of your
consciousness, then its valleys. You
are required to make efforts to climb
the high Divine peak, where Light
comes at the earliest time. Later it
goes to the valleys and to the plains.
Therefore when you ask about the
advantages of the esoteric school, you
should know that it shows its
students the right path for climbing
the high Divine peaks which are the
first to be illuminated by the Divine
rays of the rising Sun.

Take a sick person up the mountain in

the pure air and he will get well in
spite of his will. A moment is coming
when we shall be healed without
being aware of it. Sufferings are
stimuli which take us up to a high
place.

For a man to climb high mountain

peaks is to commune with Nature's
forces. As he goes to a restaurant to
eat physically, the same way he climbs
mountains to feed himself spiritually.
A man communes with mountain
energies not only physically but also
spiritually. The more spiritual he is,
the more awake his consciousness is,
and the more proper the communion
between him and Nature is.

If you are walking in the mountains,

keep only one thought within
yourself. If three or four thoughts
come into your mind, you will
stumble. Never think about bad or
negative things while in the
mountains.
Adepts and Saints have all walked
along this path. They have climbed all
the high peaks. The peaks a person
climbs in the course of his life are a
measure of his achievements.

Intelligent Nature has placed the

sacred things at the high and
inaccessible places, so that only the
souls that are ready can enjoy and
appreciate their beauty.

Many people when hiking in the

mountains are afraid of rain because
they think they may catch a cold. You
should know that the July rain in the
mountains is a great blessing – such a
‘bath’ is equal to a hundred regular
baths. Each drop of rain in July is
imbued with electromagnetic forces.

When climbing in a high place -

because the path varies and there are
flat and steep places - all organs are
activated and man becomes healthier.

In the early spring, observe the violet

colour of the snow on the mountain
slopes. This is a result of the influx of
prana, this is the colour of spring.
Moving along the high mountains
improves the condition of the
respiratory system. Greater potential
for spiritual life is acquired as a
natural consequence.

The mountain spring is alive. A

sublime spirit has sat near it from
time immemorial, working and
fulfilling its predestined role. If you
come to a mountain spring, you
should stop reverently in front of it;
you should take your hat off, wash
your face and drink some of its water.
Then you will say: ‘Lord, help me clean
my heart and enlighten my mind like
the water of this spring.’ When you go
to a mountain spring, drink its water,
wash your face and give thanks.

Places exist where when one sits

down, he receives inspiration. There is
great benefit to such sitting down.

Ideas and thoughts exist which

manifest at an elevation of 3000
metres. Others manifest at an
elevation of 3000 or 4000 metres.
Every one of you can verify this Law.
Let the nervous person go on
excursions. The mountain affects in a
most healing way the nervous system.
The nervous person should perform
physical exercises and heal with
music. They should drink hot water
and eat sparingly.

Beautiful are those places where no

man has set foot. Seek out such
places. There exists in some places in
the Rila Mountains some of this
primordial element, and should a man
walk in such a place, he will
rejuvenate instantly. Some day you
should walk in such a place. At that
moment a new epoch in your life will
begin. Living vortices exist in Nature
which transmit the sublime forces to
man.

If we climb a mountain in order to

perceive what God wants of us, such
climbing is meaningful. And when we
descend into the valley in order to
bring to the people that which we
have received in the mountain, this
descent is meaningful also.
As it is difficult for one to climb high
mountain peaks, so it is difficult to
climb the high reaches of the spiritual
life. Life is climbing a high mountain
peak.

Should a person be impatient, let him

journey to a mountain region
upstream of a crystal clear river.

The luminous Beings of the mountains

do not appear to people, except for
when people have love for them.

When you enter into the vastness of

Nature, think of the air, of the light, of
the mountain springs, of the stars, but
never think of yourself. If you think of
yourself, you will be unable to
develop properly.

When impure people try to go to pure

places, they are not admitted there:
the weather worsens, and they must
return home.

So I recommend you two things: to

drink hot water in order to purify the
body and sweat, and to breathe
deeply. Make use of any fresh air and
pure water. When you go to the
mountains bring back with you at
least a litre of pure water.

Some say: ‘I can climb anywhere.’ No,

you will choose the best place of the
mountain peak, the most beautiful
place, so that it will impress your soul
deeply. And when you come down
you must carry in your heart this peak
as an alive peak.

The high peaks are dynamic centres.

They represent a reservoir of power
which will be utilized in the future.
The mountain peaks are connected
with the Earth’s internal forces and
the Cosmic forces as well. At the same
time they are pumps which draw out
the impurities. If you feel indisposed,
climb a high mountain and you will
feel refreshed and invigorated. In the
valley one can feel in a bad mood,
depressed and tense. If he climbs up a
mountain, the ill disposition will
vanish.

When you are in the mountain, go

barefooted at least two or three
hours a day. When the Sun is shining,
the grass is warm and the stones are
hot. Use these hours to get in touch
with the energies of the Earth. It is a
privilege for man to walk sometimes
barefooted in the clearings, meadows
and crags.

When you go to the summits, respect

their purity. This is the simplest
expression by which you can show
that you value that which wise Nature
has created. In this way you will make
contact with the advanced beings in
the invisible world who will help you.

When you go into a mountain, remain

in that place to which you feel drawn.

We have come to the mountain to

enjoy the domain of our Father. Since
you have come, forget everything old.
A transformation in your outlook
must take place. The one who comes
to the mountains should set himself
free of a bad habit, shortcoming or
pain.

If possible, you should choose south

or east facing mountainsides – they
are the healthiest places. There is
more energy of the blue colour
gathered there. And, in the north
sides there is more energy of the
green, orange and red colours
gathered.
Should you climb the Himalayas to a
certain elevation, and through your
mind, pass those ideas characteristic
for an elevation of 5000 metres, then
you can say that the elevation at
which you are standing is 5000
metres. For example, a meat-eating
person climbs the mountain and
suddenly the idea not to consume
meat any longer comes into his mind -
this indicates that he has reached the
elevation at which this idea was born.
This elevation is 8000 metres. When
one reaches the elevation of 9000
metres, one forgets his nationalism.
The higher you climb the more
sublime are the ideas which occupy
your mind.

Outdoor excursions have a profound

meaning, and particularly the ascent
of high peaks!

Nature in this desert of Rila is grand,

majestic! One should spend there a
day, two or three days, in order to see
what a fine place it is for reflection.
Disciples should begin with these
experiments, because in Bulgaria you
have comfort with these high places,
with these mountains – in Egypt and
elsewhere, they used to create these
things artificially, while here Nature
has given them to us without our
efforts.

People who would like to improve the

state of their lungs should climb high
mountains. When the breathing is
simultaneously improved, people’s
spiritual capacity expands accordingly.

The energies of the mountains

descend down to the field, in order to
make it fertile.
In ancient times, one could do as
much in the world as the kind of peak
one could traverse. All Adepts, all
Masters of the past have gone
through the high places.

In the development of contemporary

life we see that some people are
educated, others uneducated; some
are smart, others stupid; some are
poor, others rich. What is the reason
for this? To clarify this question I will
give the following example: you see a
mountain peak, which constantly
produces abundant waters, which
form a big, deep river, which waters
gardens and orchards, powers
watermills and so on. While the river
flows heavily, life around it flourishes,
both plant culture and spiritual
culture develop; once the river is
redirected, once it is given a new
direction, life at this place ceases.
Thus, the life of people develops well
where energy is abundant – they have
conditions to grow and develop
physically and mentally; once that
energy is redirected, life diminishes –
there is a scarcity of energy, of
developmental conditions.

To be in a high place means to have

an elevated consciousness.

If you want to develop correctly, I

would advise that you should not
attempt to climb the highest peak
when you first climb a mountain.
When you go hiking, first climb the
lower peaks until gradually you are
strong enough to climb the highest
ones. If you try to climb immediately
the highest peaks first, you will suffer
inevitably. In the highest regions rage
strong winds and storms, and if you
are not prepared you may not be able
to withstand them.
You should know that the rain in the
mountain during the month of July is
a great blessing. Such a rain bath is
equal to a hundred ordinary baths.
Each drop of rain in July is full of
electricity and magnetism.

The sick one asks how he would get

cured. There are three things
necessary for healing: healthy food,
healthy mountainous air and light.

If a righteous person lives in a

mountain, the weather will be as he
wants. If he wants snows, it will snow.
If he wants rain or sunshine the
weather will respond accordingly.
However, when a wrongdoer lives in
the mountains, the weather will not
follow his wishes, but will be as
Nature dictates – so the wrongdoer
needs to comply with the weather
and not vice versa.

The useful thing about climbing up

and down mountain peaks is that a
similar ascent and descent takes place
in human consciousness.

Bad people avoid climbing up on the

high places. They always try to be
down, because the inferior creatures,
which are within them, cannot endure
up there, and they will have to leave
them.

The love, which young people have, is

the lowest peak, after that, the love of
the mother towards the child is a
higher one, friendship is even higher,
and in the Divine World, a higher peak
than that of the love towards God
does not exist.

Be contented and joyful so as to use

the benefits offered by the mountain
with its fresh air, pure water and the
magnificent beauty of its scenery.

You see that before you stand vast

expanses of studying, and you shall
rejoice, even when you are being born
and when you are dying, you will
always be studying. The love towards
God is a great impulse. God is the
highest top, from where all other
streams take on their destination.

If you want to be healthy, make

frequent excursions at the end of
winter and in early spring, before the
plants have developed and while
there are still no animals in the
mountains. This is so that you can
make use of the prana which is
abundant at that time.

No other country has such an

exposure to the Sun of the alpine
peaks and ridges like these of Rila.
This is the mountain of the cleanest
and most palatable water. She looks
like a beautiful and intelligent head.
The most precious and innermost
content is hidden within the head.
This is the spiritual wealth of Bulgaria,
because she is a temple of the
initiates. A temple where invisible
beings officiate from distant worlds.
Rila is a planetary oasis of the great
souls that serve all Bulgarians and the
whole humanity. There are similar
centres only at a few places on our
planet: the Alps, the Pyrenees,
Cordillera, the Andes, the Himalayas
and the North Pole. The most ancient
school lies in Rila. The initiates, from
the Himalayas, come here to study in
Rila. The knowledge of the old times is
kept in Rila.
Why do we go into the sacred
kingdom of the mountains? To free
our soul from all anxieties and limits,
to listen attentively to what the
mountain is going to tell us. The
trifling and personal interests of one’s
personality become silent. One
awakes and feels that a breath of
eternity touches the soul; one feels
the eternal beginning that lies at the
root of one’s very being and listens to
the low voice within the depth of the
soul.
The sunbaths in the mountain are to
be preferred because the astral cloud
of thoughts that envelops the city
does not disturb the rhythm of the
sunrays.

When you climb up a mountain and

get thirsty, do not drink just any kind
of water. Stop by the way, look
around and find the purest spring.
Bend down, scoop up water with your
hands and drink the pure mountain
spring water.
Having come to the mountain, use its
blessings. Climb up to the peaks to
breathe deep. This is especially good
for those who suffer asthma as well as
the ones predisposed to put on
weight. The mountain has in itself all
the conditions for healing and
acquiring knowledge. Man should
keep his body warm and not catch
cold. There should be a balance
between the body temperature and
the external temperature. Do not
forget the following rule: when you
sweat, you should immediately
change clothes. Never leave a shirt
wet from sweat get dry on your back.
Wise Nature has placed all sacred
things upon the high, inaccessible
summits, so that only those souls who
are ready to appreciate them may
rejoice in their beauty.

The spring which comes from the

mountain tops waters everything
along its way. If you want to help
humanity, correct your own life! In
this way you apply the Law of the
spring.

Having come to the mountains, we get

up early to pray and give thanks to
God for all the good gifts which
surround us.

All forms in Nature are symbols of an

eternal, ideal world. They are the
book in which the student reads what
God has written. The student begins
by studying Nature: springs, grasses,
flowers, mountains. There he seeks
the correct methods of life and purity.

Only the thirsty man will find the

spring in the mountains.
Why do we feel like different kind of
beings when we are in the
mountains? Up there, the soul is free
from the usual anxieties of our daily
life. The spirit feels free, throwing
aside all chains and obstacles that
impede the manifestation of one’s
beauty and power.

If you want the mountain to begin to

speak to you, you should come in
accord with her soul in the same way
as two instruments which are playing
together. Then you will become one
with the mountain. You immerse
yourself into the abundant life and in
а moment you learn things which
otherwise would take thousands of
years to be studied. And the supreme
expression of the accord is love. If you
love the mountain she showers you
with her gifts, because then your soul
is open to accept them.

Now that you have come to the

mountains, you should live well so as
not to stain Nature. You ought to
have pure thoughts and feelings, lest
you violate the harmony of Nature.

If you want the mountain to speak to

you, you should go to her with a thrill
of expectation. Your soul should fill
with reverence. What tranquillity
spreads over her valleys and peaks.
She has prepared so many things for
you!

When you are hard-pressed and

burdened, go into the mountain in
order to obtain wings again, and faith
in your ideal. When your soul is torn
from doubts and contradictions, when
you go along the dark curves of life, go
into the mountain to turn all that into
beautiful peace. The storms will calm,
and you will obtain brightness and
enlightenment. And if you descend
from there illuminated and
transformed then you have heard the
voice of the mountain.

All spiritual centres in the Rila

Mountains, the Alps, the Himalayas
and other mountains are
interconnected. In the Rila Mountains,
great diversity exists. There are places
in them upon which no man has ever
set foot.

When you climb the mountain, do not

be in a hurry to go down again.
Choose the most beautiful place and
sit down to rest. Survey all the scenery
around you and record the beautiful
picture within your soul. When you go
down into the valley, retain the living
picture in your memory; remember
the living peak you have climbed. The
high mountain peaks and the pure
mountain springs are alive and they
leave an imprint of eternal and
indelible images within human
consciousness.

When the student is on an excursion

in the mountains, it is good for him to
say a prayer and to do his exercises
upon the highest peak.

The oldest spiritual school is situated

within the Rila Mountains. The
Himalayas are newer mountains. From
the Himalayas, initiates come to the
Rila Mountains to study. There is an
ancient university within the Rila
Mountains. The initiates from the
Himalayas come to study in the
libraries of Rila. A school exists in the
Alps as well, but the oldest school is
in the Rila Mountains. The Beings who
dwell there have ethereal bodies.
Everything in Nature has its place.
Flowers, mountain springs and stones
represent letters which everybody can
read.

You suffer from tuberculosis. What do

you do? Go out in the mountains
every day to at least 1500 metres in
height. You will recover up to 30% in
three months, and in a year up to
80%. In a matter of two or three years
you will be perfectly healthy. Both in
the winter and summer you should
walk through the mountain with
warm clothes and a canteen of hot
water - which you would drink from
time to time.

Knowledge is stored in the Rila

Mountains. The cultures of Egypt and
India originated from the Rila
Mountains and later became
widespread. The future holds much to
be learned.

When you go on an excursion choose

to drink waters exposed to the south,
because the springs such situated are
full of creative energy and health.
When you walk in the mountains,
walk slowly and calmly without
hurrying. Stop to rest for about half a
minute every hundred metres or so.
During this time of rest, you are
acquiring energy. The higher you
climb, the slower you should walk. In
this way you will adjust to the forces
of Nature and will make correct use of
them. Otherwise, they will oppose
you, in which case you will expend
your energy in vain. Every particle of
the mountain is connected with the
Primary Principle which is working
within Nature.

The Divine World is far more beautiful

than the most beautiful mountains,
than the most beautiful places in
Nature here.
