2.1 Introduction
All tests executed by ALU PQA team were performed on following platform.
All tests were performed with the APs in the table, but all access points listed in the
Comtech/PCS are supported.
Controller APs
Product Model
RFS6000 AP650
The handset will attempt to use U-APSD even if it is not announced by the system. The
solution is to ensure that the system and client configuration match.
A delay between the last RTP data and the first Authentication frame with up to 400ms
was observed at a few occasions. This is noticed as a short glitch in the voice stream.

3. Test Configuration
Motorola solutions RFS4000 Controller and AP650/65xx/71xx Access Points
In the following chapter you will find screenshots and explanations of basic settings in order to get
the Motorola solution operational with OT8118/8128. Please note that security settings were
modified according to requirements in individual test cases.
Note. U-APSD is strongly recommended since it will boost the battery performance dramatically.
The default data rate set will work just fine but to improve the performance in the
wireless system it is recommended to disable the lowest data rates and disallow .11b
client. This can be done by selecting “gn rates”
3. Click Add to create a new QoS policy. or select one of the existing policies listed and
select the Edit button to modify.
4. The Radio QoS Policy screen displays the WMM tab by default. Use the WMM tab to define
the access category configuration (CWMin, CWMax, AIFSN and TXOP values) in respect to
the type of wireless data planned for this new or updated WLAN radio QoS policy.
5. Click OK when completed to update the radio QoS settings for this policy.
6. Select the Admission Control tab to configure an admission control configuration for
selected radio QoS policy.
Enable admission control for firewall Detected Traffic (e.g, SIP) check box to apply Radio
QoS settings to traffic detected by the controller Firewall. This feature is enabled by default.
Implicit TPSEC check box to require wireless clients to send their traffic specification to a
controller managed Access Point before they can transmit or receive data. If enabled, this
setting applies to just this radio’s QoS policy. This feature is enabled by default
Select the check box to Enable the Admission Call for Voice, Video, Best effort, and
Background access category according to your WLAN plan.
Radio configuration
Radio configuration
Radio configuration
ALU recommends a Beacon Interval of 100ms and a DTIM interval of 5. DTIM value 5 is
recommended in order to allow maximum battery conservation without impacting the
quality. A lower value will negatively impact the standby time.
Make sure Dynamic Chain Selection is enabled. This feature will compensate the power
level between single stream client and multi stream clients.
In the example above Channel is set to Smart under the general AP profile. In the test setup this
is overridden by a channel setting on a per Device level.
Note. For 802.11a, if enabling more than 8 channels will degrade roaming performance
Note for 802.11a: Using 40 MHz channels will reduce the number of non DFS channels to 2 in ETSI
regions.
Authentication type EAP step 1: Create a Radius policy under Wireless/AAA Policy.
Type in the “secret” that corresponds to the secret configured in the Radius server.
Note that both a root and a client certificate are needed for TLS. Otherwise only a root
certificate is needed.
Make sure both PMK caching and Opportunistic Key caching is enabled. Without key
caching a full EAP exchange will be done every time the handset is roaming and the
performance will be degraded.
1. DHCP mode
b. Only use Alcatel DHCP – Alcatel DHCP property must be configured on DHCP server.
c. Favor Alcatel DHCP – The handset will prefer to choose the DHCP server with
Alcatel property.
d. Use Any DHCP – The handset will use any DHCP offer depending on DHCP offer the
receiving time.
2. SSID
3. Security Mode
a. WEP
c. EAP-FAST
i. “EAP authentication user name and password must be entered for this
security mode.
d. PEAPv0-MSChap2
ii. “EAP authentication user name and password must be entered for this
security mode.
e. EAP-TLS
i. Root certification and client certificate must be installed into the handset.
4. Voice power save mode (If you’d like to enable the U-APSD feature, you should set this
parameter to “U-APSD”).
To install the “root certificate”, please select “Root” tab and click “Edit” button to install the
certificates.
To install the “root certificate”, please select “Client” tab and click “Edit” button to install the
certificates.
