Edtc630 Muneebah Grant Assignment

This grant proposal requests $300 to purchase 15 laptop satchels for a 7th grade math class. The majority of students come from low-income backgrounds and lack access to computers at home. The satchels will allow students to engage with online math programs and activities to develop foundational skills outside of class, freeing up class time for project-based learning. With increased access to technology, the proposal expects students to improve math fluency and demonstrate deeper conceptual understanding, as evaluated through assessments and student work samples. The goal is to help students master grade-level math standards.

Proposal
Without including names or identifying information, provide some general information about the
demographics of your students, school, and/or community (100 words)
In my 7th grade classroom, there are fifteen students with varying strengths, learning
preferences, and needs. The school is located in a low to middle socioeconomic
neighborhood with a large minority population. Sixty percent of students in my
classroom come from diverse backgrounds [include specific demographic information
here]. There are two students in special education with IEPs. Both of these students have
learning disabilities, and one also has ADHD. One student in my classroom is an English
language learner. Four students qualify for free and reduced meals.
In a 2-column table, list the items you want to purchase and their approximate cost. Include a
total cost at the bottom of the table.

Item Cost
Laptop Satchel $20 each x 15 students = $300

Total Cost $300

Describe in detail what led you to seek funding. Include information about the specific need of
your students, class, school, and/or community. Also include if you considered any research (100
words).
Students do not have access to computers at home, making it difficult to engage in online
activities at home. However, my students need enrichment in foundational math concepts

and procedures [use student achievement/academic data]. They need opportunities to

apply higher-level concepts to develop conceptual understanding and problem-solving
abilities. To support them, students should be able to engage in online activities at home
to develop fluency in math skills and concepts. In this way, they will have more time in
class to engage in project-based learning (PBL) activities during class. These efforts will
lead to continuity of learning and deeper learning.
Describe in detail how the program, project, or materials will be used and implemented. Include
lesson plans, unit overviews, additional people involved and timelines as necessary (100 words).
The goal of this initiative is to extend learning by providing at-home access to
technology. After purchasing satchels and teacher training, students will be provided with
opportunities to engage in targeted online math software according to individual level and
according to needs for specific concepts/skills. The goal is to have students engage with
technology at home in these programs weekly (and possibly daily) to improve procedural
fluency of foundational and grade-level skills. In class, students will be able to engage in
technology-infused PBL activities for mastery of higher-level concepts, creating
multimedia products to demonstrate their learning.
Describe in detail the impact that the purchased materials will have on your students, school, or
community. Include information on specific benefits you hope to see and how you will be able to
judge your own success (100 words).
With student at-home access to Chromebooks, I will be able to implement learning
experiences that promote deeper conceptual understanding and provide opportunities for
fluency and mastery. Students will engage in online and technology-infused activities to
extend learning outside of the classroom for practice and continuity. With near-constant
access to devices, students will be able to increase fluency in foundational concepts/skills
using software at home. PBL activities per unit, with meaningful and real-world
connections, will lead to deeper conceptual understanding. Overall, students will achieve
mastery on grade-level skills/concepts—evaluated using teacher-created assessments,
checklists of skills, and analysis of student artifacts.
Anonymity: I understand that any information in the uploaded document below should be free
of identifying information, including my name, students names, and my school name.
