Level 9 Progressions

RCM 2015 Syllabus

The progression for this level, numbered in a Major key is:
I vi IV V8--7 I
6-5
4-3
In minor keys the i and iv chords are shown in lower case to demonstrate the minor sound if in Roman
Numerals.

The first portion of the V chord is the notes in the I chord but this numeration demonstrates the voice
leading in a perfect cadence. For ease of playing, this outline uses the incomplete V7 with the 5th of
the chord omitted.

For ease of internalization for students, say the guitar chords out loud as you play. These have been
provided, over the chords to be played. On the harmony exam for this level, these chords are called
root/quality symbols. A full summary of these symbols is provided on my site or in the current
theory syllabus.
