PEPTIC ULCER DISEASE (see page 482-483 in your textbook. Determine your risk for peptic ulcer
disease. then interview your lab partner to determine his/her risk for peptic ulcer disease.
Discuss with your laboratory partner what teaching would be appropriate to reduce an
individual's risk for peptic ulcer disease.

I have low risk for peptic ulcer disease, because I haven’t experienced its symptoms such as
chest pain, weight loss, black or tarry tools, and vomiting. I also eat healthy foods, I’m on
diet, and I exercise daily.

 Interview your lab partner to determine his/her risk for peptic ulcer disease.

The ways for you to prevent peptic ulcer disease are the following:
 Wash hands with soap and water regularly
 Don’t eat foods that are overcooked or undercooked
 Take low dose of pain relievers over as short a length of time; take pain medications
with food, and avoid drinking alcoholic drinks while on pain medication
 Avoid unrestrained alcohol intake
 Avoid or stop smoking and chewing tobacco
 If medications are ordered by your primary health care provider, follow the directions
carefully and report if there are continuing symptoms, symptoms worsen, or more
serious symptoms occurs (such as severe pain, vomiting with bleeding, tarry tools.
