Caveats

Port Engagement use-cases are not yet supported for connections involving more than two fitting
parts

The port engagement considerations are not yet supported. When a part placement is performed on an
already connected pair of fitting ports, the connection will be created appropriately between exactly
two fitting parts for any combination of engagement values. But if a third part is placed on one of the
two previously connected ports, then it may break the initial connection and give undesirable results.
This will be addressed in NX 2007.

1992 CAVEATS

Automation Designer: Cable List Report in managed version can be hard to read
The managed version of Automation Designer breaks long lines in the cable list report in a way that can
cause it to overlap with text from the next line. The report can be hard to read.

As a workaround, create your own report template and chose a text wrap method.

Automation Designer: Some picture files are not supported during Symbol Editing
During symbol editing when using pictures in symbols, pictures files of the formats ALDUS TIFF (*.tif) and
TIFF (*.tiff) are not supported by Automation Designer.
Even though you can add a picture using this format to the symbol while editing the geometry in
Drafting application, after inserting the symbol into a project a placeholder picture will be displayed at
the location of the TIFF picture.
The following picture handling options are not supported:

• Orientation option - Rotation: Only horizontal is supported, vertical rotation will be

automatically switched to horizontal
• Transparency - Greyscale and Monochrome are not supported, the transparency will be
automatically switched to RGB
• Pixel color tolerance

Automation Designer: Pictures in symbols are incorrect size

Pictures in symbols are not getting printed in their configured size on paper or in PDF. The pictures are
shifted and scaled down. This will be addressed in NX 2007.

Automation Designer: Connection between symbol and type/product

After creating a new symbol for a product or a type in the native version of Automation Designer the
workflow "Insert Engineering Object" followed by "Place symbol on page" will not give the new symbol
when the type or product object was read-only.

Please use the workflow "Place the symbol to the page" by picking the symbol from the library directly,
or make sure the product and type objects are not write-protected while the new symbol is created.

This will be addressed in NX 2007.

1988 CAVEATS

The report templates of the native content delivered with NX1980 do not work for other languages than
English
If you were using NX1980 Automation Designer and Electrical Design, please update the library contents
to version 8.1. This content can be found in the Automation Designer kit of NX1988 or as separate
download at Support Center. You can overwrite the old library objects with the new ones or configure a
new library location.

Placing Inline part on a stock component in a sub assembly

When placing an inline part on a stock component in a sub assembly, make sure to first designate that sub
assembly as the work part. Otherwise, when the inline part splits the path segment, the resulting new
stock component could be placed in the wrong assembly.

1984 CAVEATS

Creating Formboards from Harnesses with Splice Points

If a harness contains loops (paths that branch from the wire bundle and then come back together), you
cannot create a formboard of it if one or more splice points (1) are placed on any of the “parallel” loop
segments. The splice point can be on a single segment before or after the branches, but not on any
portion of the branches themselves.

Updating Formboards from Harnesses with Splice Points

If issues are encountered when executing Update Formboard from harnesses containing splice points,
the recommended work around is to delete the splice points from the formboard part and execute
Update Formboard again.

Importing a data file from Capital

When importing PLM XML data from Capital into a routing part, if the customer default Create Bundles
on Read from Capital is enabled, and the imported data has at least one segment with Capital stock,
and a splice point defined in the JSON file, the following message appears:
"The work part has routing paths which were referenced within the information imported from
Capital, and any routing paths modified as a result of the operation may cause the Capital
information to become out of date. Connections may need to be exported to Capital and routed
again after this change."
This message warns you of changing the model in any way that impacts the Capital stock bundles. It
should be ignored during the import operation.
