RUBBER PRODUCTS
Rubber is the most cost-effective material to use where temperatures and pressures are low and the
chemical environment is mild. Different elastomers offer different mechanical and chemical properties. Cloth
inserted materials are better able to handle movement and high compression loads.

ADVANTAGES:
Inspite of its remarkable properties pure or “unfilled” PTFE is inadequate for some engineering uses.
Mechanical applications especially require better physical characteristics.
A proper combination of inorganic and metallic fillers will enhance the following factors:
• Creep resistance,
• Wear resistance,
• Thermal conductivity,
• Arc resistance,
• Dimensional stability,
• Hardness

PTFE ENVELOPED GASKETS
ADVANTAGES
Benefits from the high stability of C-F bond virgin PTFE, which is used for the envelope
and exhibits extraordinary chemical resistance. Combinations of two or more insert materi-
als allow a large number of different applications.
SIZE
The PTFE envelope for gaskets with maximum external diameter of up to 500 mm are
made in one piece, for gaskets with greater diameters they are welded. Oval shapes of
PTFE envelopes are welded. There are no limitations regarding sizes for gaskets with
welded envelopes.

GASKETS WITH WELDED BARS
Gaskets with welded bars have eliminated one of the greatest problems of conventional gaskets, which
are cracks in the radius area.
The primary and secondary seals are continuous all around the gasket. The gasket has an excellent
sealability, reducing leaks to the environment. The bars which seal between the heat exchanger passages
are plasma or TIG welded with spot welds at each end.

FLANGE INSULATION GASKET KITS
Flange Insulation Kits are designed to ensure electric insulation and to
combat the effects of corrosion often found in flanged pipe systems. by
eliminating metal-to-metal contact, static current is halted to prevent
corrosion and to aid in the cathodic protection of the piping system.
The kit can be used to control stray electric currents in piping at oil,
gas, water, refinery and chemical plants in order to increase the effec-
tiveness of cathodic protection systems.
Experience has shown that cathodic protection, together with high
grade passive corrosion protection from the application of a coating on
the pipeline, provides a most efficient and economical solution.
The Design and selection of materials used in Flange Insulation Kit Gasket, meet the twin purpose of sealing
the flanges and insulation metal parts to prevent flow currents responsible for corrosion.

CORROSION RESISTANCE
°General corrosion
Sandvik 3R65 has good resistance to:
– Organic acids at high concentrations and temperatures, with the exception of formic acid and acids with
Intergranular corrosion
Sandvik 3R65 has a low carbon content and therefore better resistance to intergranular corrosion than other
steels of type AISI 316.
Pitting and crevice corrosion
Resistance of these types of corrosion improves with molybdenum content. Sandvik 3R65 has substantially
higher resistance to attack than steels of type AISI 304.
4 SANDVIK 3R65
– Certain solutions, particularly those containing chlorides
– Temperatures above 60 o C (140o F)
Such service conditions should therefore be avoided. Conditions when plants are shut down must also be
considered, as the condensates which are then formed can develop a chloride content that leads to both stress
corrosion cracking and pitting.
In applications demanding high resistance to stress corrosion cracking, austenitic-ferritic steels, e.g. Sandvik SAF
2304 or SAF 2205 are recommended. See data sheets S-1871-ENG and S-1874-ENG.
Gas corrosion
Sandvik 3R65 can be used in
In flue gases containing sulphur, the corrosion resistance is reduced. In such environments Sandvik 3R65 can be
used at temperatures up to 600-750°C (1110-1380°F) depending on service conditions. Factors to consider are
whether the atmosphere is oxidizing or reducing, i.e. the oxygen content, and whether impurities such as sodium
and vanadium are present.
HEAT TREATMENT
The tubes are delivered in heat treated condition. If additional heat treatment is needed after further processing
the following is recommended.
Stress relieving
850-950°C (1560-1740°F), 10-15 minutes, cooling in air.
Solution annealing
1000-1100°C (1830-2010°F), 5-20 minutes, rapid cooling in air or water.
WELDING
The weldability of Sandvik 3R65 is good. Suitable welding methods are manual metal-arc welding with covered
electrodes and gas-shielded arc welding with the TIG and MIG methods as first choice. Preheating and post-weld
heat treatment are not normally necessary.
Since the material has low thermal conductivity and high thermal expansion, welding must be carried out with a
low heat input and with welding plans well thought out in advance so that the deformation of the welded joint can
be kept under control. If, despite these precautions, it is foreseen that the residual stresses might impair the
function of the weldment, we recommend that the entire structure be stress-relieved. See under "Heat
As filler material for gas-shielded arc welding we recommend wire electrodes and rods Sandvik 19.12.3.L,
19.12.3.LSi or, when a ferritic-free weld metal is required, 25.22.2.LMn. In manual metal-arc welding covered
electrodes Sandvik 19.12.3.LR or 19.12.3.LRHD are recommended and as a ferrite free alternative 25.22.2.LMnB.
BENDING
Annealing after cold bending is not normally necessary, but this point must be decided with regard to the degree
of bending and the operating conditions. Heat treatment, if any, should take the form of stress-relieving or
solution annealing, see under "Heat treatment".
Hot bending is carried out at 1100-850°C (2010-1560°F) and should be followed by solution annealing.
MACHINING
Sandvik 3R65 has good machining properties. Tool and cutting data recommendations are the same as for steel
3R60 in brochure S-1462-ENG.
APPLICATIONS
5 SANDVIK 3R65
Sandvik 3R65 is used in a wide variety of industrial applications. Typical examples are heat exchangers,
condensers, pipelines, cooling and heating coils in the chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper and food
industries.
Disclaimer: Recommendations are for guidance only, and the suitability of a material for a specific application can be confirmed
only when we know the actual service conditions. Continuous development may necessitate changes in technical data without
notice. This datasheet is only valid for Sandvik materials.

CPI™ / A-LOK® Tube Fittings
Parker CPI™ / A-LOK® fittings consists of precision engineered parts designed to provide secure leak-proof
joints capable of satisfying high pressure, vacuum and vibration applications.
Parker Instrumentation Tube Fittings are supplied complete and ready to use. The ferrule(s) swage onto the
tube as it moves down the body seat creating a pressure/vacuum-tight seal on both tube and body by the
interface pressure and surface finish of mating components. The Parker Suparcase ® ferrule (back-ferrule only
on A-LOK®) creates a strong mechanical hold on the tube.

Fractional Size: Tube and pipe thread sizes are designed by the number of sixteenths of an inch (1/2" tube = 8/16" = 8)
(1/4" pipe thread = 4/16" = 4).
Metric Size: Metric tube is designated in millimeters and prefixed “M” (i.e., 12mm tube – M12.) The pipe thread size is written as a fraction
(i.e., 1/4 NPT = 1/4).
All Straights & Elbows: Call out largest CPI™ / A-LOK® tube end size first followed by the smaller CPI™ / A-LOK ® tube end or pipe thread size.
Fractional Tees & Crosses: For drop size tees – first size the run (1 to 2) and then branch (3). Example – the size
designator for a male run tee for 3/8" O.D. tube and 1/4" male pipe thread would be 6-4-6. For crosses – first size
the run (1 to 2) and then the branch (3 to 4). For tees with all ends the same, use the tube and size before and
after the style designator; i.e. 4-4-4 JBZ (CPI™), 4ET4 (A-LOK ®).
Metric Tees & Crosses: For drop size tees – first size the run (1 to 2) and then branch (3). Example – the size
designator for a male run tee for 6mm tube and 1/4" male pipe thread would be 6-4-6. For crosses – first size the
run (1 to 2) and then the branch (3 to 4). For tees with all ends the same, use the tube end size after the style
designator; i.e. JBZ 4-4-4 JBZ (CPI™), ETM4 (A-LOK®).

The lapped joint tube adaptor is a fitting designed to be used with a lap joint flange which enables a direct hook-up to the
instrument tube from the process line.
The compression fitting is incorporated into the body of the adaptor thus the number of components needed for hook-up is
reduced. It is therefore cost efficient as well as space saving.
For the full line of Manifold
Accessories, see Catalog The face of the fitting forms the gasket face of the flange and comes with either a smooth or serrated surface finish.

Sanitary flange fittings combine the reliability and versatility of Parker tube fittings with conventional sanitary flanges.
The fittings permit direct downstream connections for hookups and sampling.
Flange sizes are 1/2, 3/4, 1, and 1-1/2 in.
Parker tube fitting ends are available in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 in. Parker tube fittings allow use of a variety of tubing materials including metal, hard plastic
plastic.
For a Thermocouple/“Bored-Thru” version of the above Sanitary Adapter fittings, add a “4” to the part number. Example: A 4-12 ZHLS-SS becomes a
4-12 ZH4LS-SS for a 3/4" Sanitary Flange with a 1/4" diameter bored through on the A-LOK ® fitting end.

Parker CPI™ / A-LOK® Tube Fitting part numbers use symbols to identify the size, style, and material. Tube and pipe thread
sizes begin with a number indicating their size in sixteenths of an inch. For example, 4=4/16” or 1/4”; 16=16/16” or 1.
NOTE: Lubrication of the nut is REQUIRED for proper assembly on all LARGER size fittings in both inch and metric

1. For operating temperatures above 800˚F (425˚C), consideration should be given to media. 300 Series Stainless Steels are suspectible to carbide precipitation
which may lead to intergranular corrosion at elevated temperatures.
2. Consideration should be given to maximum temperature ratings if fittings and/or tubing are coated or plated. All temperature ratings based on temperatures per
ASME B31.3 Chemical Plant and Petroleum Refinery Piping Code, 1999 Edition.
The information listed in Table 1 is general in scope. For specific applications, please contact Parker’s Instrumentation Products Division, Product Engineeri
Department (256) 881-2040.

System Pressure
The system operating pressure is another important factor in determining the type, and more importantly, the size of tubing to
be used. In general, high pressure installations require strong materials such as steel or stainless steel. Heavy walled softer
tubing such as copper may be used if chemical compatibility exists with the media. However, the higher strength of steel or
stainless steel permits the use of thinner tubes without reducing the ultimate rating of the system. In any event, tube fitting as-
semblies should never be pressurized beyond the recommended working pressure.
The following tables (2–7) list by material the maximum suggested working pressure of various tubing sizes. Acceptable tubing
diameters and wall thicknesses are those for which a rating is listed. Combinations, which do not have a pressure rating, are
not recommended for use with instrument fittings.
System Temperature
Operating temperature is another factor in determining the proper tubing material. Copper and aluminum tubing are suitable
for low temperature media. Stainless steel and carbon steel tubing are suitable for higher temperature media. Special alloys
such as Alloy 600 are recommended for extremely high temperatures (see Table 1). Table 8 lists derating factors which should
be applied to the working pressures listed in Tables 2–7 for elevated temperature conditions. Simply locate the correct factor in
Table 8 and multiply this by the appropriate value in Tables 2–7 for elevated temperature working pressure.
