Contemporary World - Reflection Paper

The document discusses globalization and inequality in the world. It begins by providing statistics about the population, languages, and religions represented around the world. It then notes that while people come from different backgrounds, not all have equal access to education, food, clean water and air due to financial limitations. This teaches us that privilege is not universal and we should share our blessings to help build a better future. The document also discusses how the definition of globalization has evolved over time and is now less about cooperation and more about power dynamics between nations.

REFLECTION PAPER

(Video)

If we could turn the world into a community of one hundred people living in a small village, here is
how we could categorize them into: population, language, religion, money, education, and food.

Population in the world is divided into continents. We could see that population in the continent of
Asia is almost twice as many as the other continents combined. Asia stands as the largest when it comes
to population, while the Oceania is known to be the least populated.

There are eight or more languages present in the world today. Many speak the Chinese dialect,
while some communicates in the language of English, Hindi, Spanish, Bengali, Arabic, Russian and
Portuguese.

The world is divided into 7 or more religions. Mostly are Christians and Muslims. Some are Hindu,
Buddhist, and Jewish. Some still believes in folk religion and some does not have a religion.

What does this say about the world today? We all live in a planet wherein we came from different
regions, speak different languages, belong to different religions, and was born from different centuries yet
we all live and work together. We are all united.

But there are things in life that not all can have. Things like education, food, clean water, and
clean air. Almost half of the world today are at their school age. But only a few percent of it actually goes
to school. Because of their financial status not all can attain an education. More than half are also starving
because they don’t have money to buy food. Factories are built in some areas that’s why air and water in
those areas are dirty. Electricity in some areas are also insufficient.

What does this teach us? It teaches us that not all are privileged and that privilege is not
universal. Not all have food to eat. Not all can go to school to learn. Not all can have clean water to drink
and bathe with. Not all are able to breathe clean air because of pollution. Not all have electricity. This tells
us that we should be contented in what we have and to also share our blessings. We need to help one
another for all of us to live in harmony. We need to help each other to build a better tomorrow for the
young.

(Globalization)

Globalization was defined into different definitions but all comes to one, interconnectedness. A lot
of debates about globalization rised up. A lot of definitions or studies were brought up. Scholars even
defined it under the processes of economics, politics and culture. But as the debate when on and on, it
shows that there are a lot of meanings or definition as to how to explain globalization.

Globalization nowadays is not just simply about trading anymore. It became territorial or cultural
invasion. Cultural, economical and political exchange was replaced by power. Equality among nations
were gone, those who have power steps on those who don't. Globalization became disruptive as it was
connective before.
