Activity in Ethics BSHM 1A Eve. BATOON

Jhen Princess B. Batoon is a student in the BSHM 1-A program studying Ethics under Mrs. Chelo Durante. In her study of natural law, she has learned that it is derived from the belief that human morality comes from human nature, not culture or customs. Natural law is seen as constant and the same everywhere based on human instincts. Thomas Aquinas contributed to natural law by recognizing it as part of a larger Christian framework, maintaining that we are created by God and have a conscience that directs our moral thinking with a sense of right and wrong.

1. What have you learned about Natural Law?

Based on my readings, I’ve learned that natural law is derived from the
belief that human morality comes from nature. Natural law is constant or steady
all through time and over the globe since it is based on human nature, not on
culture or customs. The word “natural” appears to be utilized to allude to a few
kinds of instincts that an individual has. And also this law keeps up that these
rules of right and wrong are inherent or in born in different individuals and are
not made by society. It believes that this law is defined by morality, and not by
an authority figure, like a superior king or even in a government. It could be a
framework of law based on a near perception of human nature. Concurring to
normal law all individuals have inborn rights, conferred not by the act of
enactment but by “God, nature or reason”. To sum up, the word “natural” is used
as an appeal to something instinctual. And it seems that it is common to them
given their particular environment.

It is a legal theory or a lawful hypothesis that recognizes law and morality

as deeply connected, if not one and the same. It is also recognizes ethical
quality as profoundly associated in the event. Everything in nature has a
purpose and that includes human and our purpose is to live a good and happy
life. Natural law is basically the same process as developing in intelligence.
Building upon religious conceptions of common or natural law and wisdom.
Concludes that intelligence is the appropriate control by which individuals
secure it subjectively. There are some examples of Natural Law. And one of that
is the early economists of the medieval period includes Aquinas. And also the
Scholastic Monks of the School of Salamanca. It heavily emphasized natural law
as aspects of economics in their theories.
2. What is the contribution of St.Thomas Aquinas in Natural Law? Answer briefly.

Thomas Aquinas is one of the various thinkers and systems of thought

emerging throughout the history that could be said to present a natural law. It
states or recognized that this law is part of a larger discussion. Thomas Aquinas
contributed a part of a larger projects the Aquina’s vision of the Christian Faith.
It is maintained and elaborated by Aquinas in all his works became the center of
the Christian Faith that we are all created by God. Next, the Ethics of Aquinas,
Aquinas also puts forward that there is within us conscience that directs our
moral thinking and also Aquinas state that there is a sense of right and wrong in
us that we obliged to obey.
