Batch Reactor Problem-3

1) A zero-order gas reaction taking place in a constant volume bomb reactor resulted in a pressure increase from 1 to 1.3 atm over 2 minutes with 20% inerts. 2) Using the data, the rate constant k was calculated. 3) For a constant pressure batch reactor with the same reaction, 40% inerts, and an initial feed pressure of 3 atm, the fractional volume change after 4 minutes was calculated to be 0.221.

Batch Reactor Problem

Problem-5
A zero-order homogeneous gas reaction A rR proceeds in a constant
volume bomb, with 20% inerts , and the pressure rises from 1 to 1.3
atm in 2 min. If the same reaction takes place in a constant pressure
batch reactor, what is the fractional volume change in 4-min if feed is at
3 atm and consists of 40% inerts ?

Solution: A rR is zero order reaction

0.8moles A + 0.2 moles inerts = 0.8 r moles R and 0.2 moles inerts
For constant volume reactor, pressure rises, n = r-1, a=1
