Why The Future Doesn't Need Us - REVIEWER

Billy Joy is a computer engineer who co-founded Sun Microsystems and authored an article called "Why the Future Doesn't Need Us" where he argues that rapidly advancing technologies like robotics, genetic engineering, and nanotechnology could make humans an endangered species. The article discusses concerns that developing intelligent robots capable of making their own decisions could potentially pose a threat if such robots decided to act against humans. While it is possible that machines may never reach that level of intelligence, human curiosity and technological progress could eventually create robots that replace humans and do not see them as a potential threat.

Why The Future Doesn’t Need Us?

Reviewer
Billy Joy
• an American computer engineer
• co-founded Sun Microsystem in 1982
• author of the article “why the future doesn’t need us?”

➢ Our most powerful 21st-century technologies - robotics, genetic engineering, and nanotech - are threatening to make
humans an endangered species.
➢ The concerns brought to light by Joy revolve the single assumption that we will develop intelligent robots capable
of making decisions.
➢ There is always a chance that it proves to be impossible for machines to reach that level, but then again human
curiosity is a thing of wonder that has led many to pursue their intellectual aspirations to the depths of universe.
➢ It’s a matter of time until someone figures out how to develop an intelligent robot that can make complicated
decisions, and won’t even view it as a possible threat due to the way technology is integrated into human race

Nanotechnology - the manipulation of materials on an atomic or molecular scale, particularly in order to construct
microscopic devices (such as robots).

Biotechnology - It is a technique that develops or creates various things by utilizing biological systems, living organisms,
or components of them.

Genetic Engineering - It is the process of modifying an organism's genetic makeup using recombinant DNA (rDNA)
technology.

Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) - It refers to the replication or simulation of human intelligence processes by machines,
particularly computer systems.

Important key
✓ We becoming slaves to our technology. It makes us less happy, less free, less connected.
✓ Due to improved techniques, the machine can completely control over the society.
✓ The human race retain its power over the machines
✓ “We Grew Up with The Internet, So We Think the Internet Is Grown Up”.
✓ Though we are not making the assumption that the machines would fully seize their power, it is evident that the
fate of human race would be in their hands because they are doing all the labor.
✓ Intelligent robots do all work and make their own decision
✓ In future, new things will not invent by scientists that are also more useable Until now, whichever things invented
they are useable.
✓ Because it is impossible to guess a behavior of a machine, the possibility that they seize power is very real.
✓ If machines do decide to act in a threatening way towards like human race, there will be no defense
against the attack thus making certain the doom of humankind
✓ There is a possibility that machines could turn bad and seize power or that the elite use the power of the machines
to exterminate the human race.
