1.1 Introduction
BTL CardioPoint is software used for processing of cardiology and spirometry
examinations. BTL CardioPoint is designed to record, evaluate, store and archive the
examination data and also works as a patient database.

1.2 Modules
The BTL CardioPoint system includes five separate modules: BTL CardioPoint – Holter
(further referred as Holter module), BTL CardioPoint – ECG (further referred as
ECG module), BTL CardioPoint – Ergo (further referred as Ergo module),
BTL CardioPoint – Spiro (further referred as Spiro module) and BTL CardioPoint – ABPM
(further referred as ABPM module).

Holter module is designed for performing of ECG Holter examinations

and evaluating of recorded signal using various diagnostic tools.

ECG module serves for recording of resting ECG in length from

10 seconds up to 9 minutes. Evaluation of signal includes averaged
ECG beat, calculation of heart rate and other diagnostic tools. Sudden
death screening (SDS) is activated by loading of the additional license.

Ergo module enables performing of a stress-test. It operates with ECG

and stress-test devices. Optionally external blood pressure monitor can
be connected. CPET examination is started from Ergo module using
the third party software.

Spiro module is aimed for performing and evaluating of spirometry

examinations. Recorded signal is interpreted using diagnostic tools.

New released versions of BTL CardioPoint include new features and improvements.

The BTL CardioPoint versions are labeled by sequence of numbers e.g.:

2.27.24476.0

Version of release Version of build or service pack

Each version of BTL CardioPoint is able to be directly updated to the current version.
Downgrade to older version is not supported and not recommended.

1.3.1 Predecessors
The first software designed for recording and evaluation of cardiology examinations was
BTL-08 WIN. Update of BTL-08 WIN to BTL CardioPoint is not supported. Only
10 seconds long ECG records are transferable to BTL CardioPoint.

BTL-08 MEW is a direct predecessor of BTL CardioPoint. BTL-08 MEW was replaced by
BTL CardioPoint in version 2.19.xxxx. Direct update of BTL-08 MEW to BTL CardioPoint is
supported without any limitations.

1-3
1.4 Data Storage
Recorded examination data, patient details and other information are organized in three
storages.

User edited folder contains uncompressed examination data recorded or evaluated on

current PC.

Central data storage (further referred as CDS) is a shared storage. The examination data
in the CDS are compressed and stored in a MEWZIP files. CDS is present in local PC (in
case of Local installation) or in shared storage in Main PC (in case of Network
installation).

Database contains records about patients, examinations and other system information.
BTL CardioPoint uses two different database systems depending on the type of the
installation – SQLite (for Local installation) and MySQL (for Network installation).

The examination data are transferred between the User edited folder and the CDS.
Information about current location of the data is saved in the Database.

2.2 BTL CardioPoint Installation
There are two types of the BTL CardioPoint installation – Local or Network – depending
on intended use of BTL CardioPoint and need of data sharing.

• Local installation – single PC with no data sharing.

• Network installation – PCs which are used in the BTL CardioPoint network.
o Network installation of Main PC – PC which works as a server in the
BTL CardioPoint network, contains Database and CDS and is accessible at
all times.
o Network installation of Next PC – PC which accesses Database and CDS
on the Main PC.

Local installation is used for a medical facility with one PC where data are not needed to
be shared. Recording, evaluating and storing of data is performed on one PC. All data
storages - User edited folder, CDS and Database are present there. Local installation uses
SQLite Database.

Installation

Network installation involves multiple PCs in a medical facility where the data are
shared among the PCs. In Network installation, there are two types of the stations –
Main PC and Next PC.

Main PC acts as a server in the BTL CardioPoint network and therefore has to be
accessible for all PCs in the BTL CardioPoint network at all times. Main PC contains all
data storages – User edited folder, CDS and Database. CDS may be located in Main PC or
in the dedicated server which is archived regularly and has larger data capacity. Main PC
can be used for recording and common work with the examination as well.

Next PC contains only User edited folder and accesses Database and CDS on Main PC.
Next PC is therefore used only for recording and evaluating of the data.

4.1 General Information
The BTL CardioPoint software is secured by two means of protection - software (license
file) and hardware (hardware key). For proper operation of modules, all required
protections must be present in the PC.

The software license must be obtained from the BTL license server or from BTL ISC for
registering of BTL CardioPoint. Hardware key is delivered with the Device.

4.1.1 Means of Protection

LICENSE FILE
Software protection is represented by a license file.

License file defines registered BTL CardioPoint modules. The registered

modules work with no restrictions.

The license file contains:

• Customer name – company or physician name, which is automatically added

into the header of examination reports.
• List of registered modules – only those are shown in BTL CardioPoint by default.
• Software edition – for ECG module only.

HARDWARE KEY
Hardware protection is represented by various types of hardware keys – USB stick
(for Holter and Ergo module), Spiro - USB converter (for Spiro module) and Optical - USB
converter (for ABPM module). No hardware protection is used for ECG module. Details
about hardware protection for each module are described in section 4.2 Licensing of

(see subsection 5.1.2 MEW Folder).

Tick the checkboxes of selected examinations and share them by option

(“Force Share > Checked”). Share all examinations using option (“Force Share > All”).

AUTOMATIC SHARING SETTINGS

Examinations are shared automatically either after closing of each module or in 14 days.
Rules for automatic sharing are set in the dataflow settings or in the close form. Since
these two options change the same functionality, the last saved setting is applied.

Close Form
“Close examination” window is launched when closing any module. In the bookmark
“Advanced” it is possible to change examination status and change sharing options.

5-12 590-82ServiceManualEN100
Common Tasks

There are two options for sharing – “now” (examination is shared immediately when the
module is closed) and “automatically in 14 days”.

Save the combination of particular status and its sharing option as default by ticking
“Remember this combination”.

Hide the “Close examination” window by ticking “Don’t show again”. The window must
be hidden separately for each module. To show the window again, go to (“Settings >
Restore all warnings”).

Dataflow Settings
Change the global configuration of examination sharing in “Dataflow settings” wizard
separately for each module.

To access “Dataflow settings” enter the administrator mode, go to (“Setup > Edit dataflow
settings”) and move to step 2.

Three options of sharing are available for each module.

• Single user – examinations are shared 14 days after last opening. This option is
set automatically for the Local installation.
• Multi user – immediate – examinations are shared immediately after closing the
module. This option is set automatically for the Network installation. It allows all
users in the BTL CardioPoint network to work with the examinations immediately
after the closing.
• Multi user – suspended – examinations are shared 14 days after last opening.
This option is set automatically in the Network installation for Holter module.
Opening of shared Holter examination takes longer time then opening
examinations from User edited folder due to transferring and unpacking of large
amounts of data.
