2015/16 – Fourth grade

 Learned to read music


 Instrument played: Euphonium (started Euphonium 2015)

2016/17 – Fifth grade

 Extended learning from Fourth grade (Euphonium)

MIDDLE SCHOOL [Kenmore Middle School, Arlington VA]


2017/18 – Sixth grade (Band Director David Lassell)

 Participated in Band and Jazz Band


 Instruments played: Euphonium and Trombone (started Trombone 2018)
o Also learned to play BBb Tuba
 Junior Honors Band – First chair Euphonium
 Began to compose original music (mostly marches) and transcribe music by ear

2018/19 – Seventh grade (Band Director David Lassell)

 Participated in Symphonic Band and Jazz Band


 Instruments played: Euphonium and Trombone
o Played piccolo solo on Euphonium (“The Stars and Stripes Forever”) at Winter Concert
 Honors Band – First chair Euphonium
 VBODA All District Middle School Band (District 12) – First chair Euphonium
 Began Piano lessons with Adrienne Cleary in September 2018 to aid in composing [paused in
March 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic]
 Began Trombone lessons with Bill Holmes (trombonist in Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks
Orchestra) in March 2019 [continues to present]
 Formed a jazz trio with friends, Fifth Avenue Blue, and composed pieces for it

2019 – Summer

 Attended Northern Virginia Community College week-long Summer Music Camp (concert band
and jazz band)

 Participated in Symphonic Band and Jazz Band


 Instruments played: Euphonium and Trombone (and, unofficially, CC Tuba)
 Played Euphonium as part of “A Tuba Christmas” at the Kennedy Center (December 2019)

 VBODA All District Middle School Band (District 12) – Second chair Euphonium
o (Note: Had wrong passage to practice; learned correct music in the 15 minutes before
the audition!)
 Received John Philip Sousa National Award (2019-2020, Euphonium) from J. Pratte
 Attended U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop – February 2020
o Took part in workshops and master classes; saw performances by U.S. Army Band and
renowned instructors and performers
 Attended U.S. Army Band American Trombone Workshop – March 2020
o Took part in workshops and orchestral master classes; saw performances by U.S. Army
Band and renowned instructors and performers
o Learned to play Bass Trombone

2020 – Summer

 June: Won Lucky Chops arrangement contest with friend and classmate Jeremy Fagen (see
Arlington Public Schools news release)
 July and August: Took online classes from Lucky Chops band members
o Music Theory with Dr. Reginald Chapman
o High-Range Trombone with Josh Holcomb
 August: Joined the Outcasts Brass Band. Busks every Friday and Saturday (5 to 9 pm) in Old
Town Alexandria’s (VA) Market Square. Plays Trombone, occasionally Bass Trombone and
Sousaphone [continues to present]
o Arranges jazz/funk songs for the 11-person band

HIGH SCHOOL [Washington-Liberty High School (WLHS), Arlington, VA]


2020/21 – Ninth grade (Band Director Alex Robinson)

 Successfully auditioned (as eighth grader) for Symphonic Band and Marching Band on
Euphonium, Trombone, and Tuba
 Participated in Symphonic Band (Tuba), Marching Band (Tuba), and Jazz Band (First Trombone)*
 Instruments played: Tuba (multiple keys), Trombone, and Bass Trombone (begun in January
2021)
 Applied to National Youth Orchestra 2 (NYO2) 2021 for Trombone in December 2020 (not
accepted)
 VBODA All District High School Band (District 12) – Wind Ensemble, Second Trombone (no
practices or performances due to COVID-19)
 VBODA All-Virginia Band and Orchestra – 10 th place overall, Second Trombone in Concert Band
 VBODA All-Virginia Jazz Band and Ensemble– 1 st place overall, Bass Trombone in Jazz Ensemble

 Participated in WLHS Marching Band Camp on Sousaphone

 Arranged stand tune (Buyo) and Tuba feature for Marching Band
