ABSTRACT
The most widely used of all optoelectronicdevices
is the simple LED (light emittingdiode), which emits
a fairly narrow bandwidth of visible (usually red,
orange, yellow, or green) or invisible (infrared)
lightwhen its internal diode junction is
stimulated by a forward electric current. LEDs
havetypical power-to-light energy
conversionefficiencies some 10 to 100 times
greaterthan a simple tungsten filament lamp
andhave very fast response times (less than0.1µS,
compared to 10s or 100s ofmilliseconds for a
tungsten lamp), and arethus widely used as visual
indicators and as simple ‘flashing light’ units.
By simple, Imean that these circuits only flash one
ortwo LEDs. This is opposed to the lightchaser
circuits that can flash four or more.Of course, the
simplest LED flasher issimply to use a flashing LED.
The problemwith that approach is you have no
controlover the flash rate, but it does have its
usefor eye catching displays for selling stuff. The
circuits below give you that control, plus they can
flash two LEDs alternately.

INTRODUCTION
LED Flasher is a simple circuit which will blink the LEDs in
regular time period. Thiscircuit can be used for
decoration purpose orcan be used for a signaling
purpose andmany more. A LED flasher circuit is acircuit
which flashes the LED- meaningturns it ON-OFF, ON-OFF,
ON-OFF. The555timer chip is a very versatile IC,
becausewhen connected correctly, it can it cancreate
pulses of current at specific timeintervals decided by the
resistor-capacitor(RC) network. When a 555 timer
creates pulses in this way, the LED doesn't stayconstantly
on. It only turns on at a pulse andthen shuts off after the
pulse has passed. And it does this in a never-ending
cycle, which creates the flashes of light. To makethe 555
timer chip create pulses, it must be placed in a stable
mode. A stable modesimply means that the 555 timer
has nostable state. It switches constantly betweenhigh
and low, or on and off. This is why thismode is also
called oscillator mode, becauseit uses the 555 timer an
oscillator, whichcreates square wave signals. The 555
timer is made to be configured as astable multi-vibrator.
The potentiometerwhich is connected to the timer
should be preset and also to adjust the blinking
orflashing speed of the LEDs.The bicolor LEDs are used in
this circuit andconnected to each other as shown in
theschematic. The PWM signal is the output ofthe
555timer given to transistor, which actsas an inverter.
When the pulse generated by555 timers is low, transistor
will get ON andLEDs will get ON. When the input
oftransistor is high, transistor will get OFF andLEDs are
made OFF. This ON/OFF ofLEDs will go for every pulse
width signalcycle. This mechanism will make the LEDs
