Accommodation and Typical Day
Accommodation and Typical Day
All international volunteers will stay at the ministry guest house. The guest house is 10 minutes
from the ministry office house. The guest house is westernized; it has a 24 hour security guide,
electricity, back-up generator, running water, hot water, WIFI. The atmosphere is community
oriented. You will live with other international volunteers and a few of the Legacy Footfalls staff
members. Giving you a chance to get to know the team very well.
Accommodation –Village
We work in 2 other rural districts, Yumbe and Mityana, the accommodation in the rural areas
may range from a simple guest house, or camping in tents. Be prepared to have no electricity
and shower with a bucket of water and use a squatty potty (Hole-in-the-ground).
Ministry opportunities
You will have the opportunity each week to work alongside Ugandans in schools. Teach children
the foundations of the Christian faith, basic computer skills, guide children working on crafts,
and sports ministry. You will also share your faith and interact with youth during youth open
days at the mission house. You will also spend time visiting families in the community. You will
meet 27 groups of children a week and work with about 470-500 children.
What we do
Legacy Footfalls is committed to outreach toward pockets of unreached communities within
Uganda. We do this with a two-pronged approach: one, training in computer literacy in
community schools; and two, evangelism built upon the relationships formed as a result of the
training. We run bible lesson plans on the foundations of the Christian faith parallel to a
computer literacy curriculum.
We use a number of approaches to interest the children with the bible lessons and crafts. Such
as team bonding games, music and dance. Children here just love to sing and dance. Their faces
brighten up at the sound of a guitar and gospel tracks. Even children coming from non-christian
families freely dance to rock gospel music. The computer lesson is spiced up by computer based
games.
The busiest and most demanding days in the week are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On
Thursday and Friday we work from the mission house, Thursday we specifically work on the
discipleship booklets for children, the discipleship booklet is a tool LF uses to monitor the
progress of each child on program. it covers concepts relating to the discipleship syllabus that
the children are taking and stores the crafts student make. You will stick crafts and write
observations in the morning and afternoon. On a normal day we stick about 400+ crafts and
write observations and prayer profiles on as many children as possible. Thursday evening the
volunteers go back to one of the schools to engage the children in outdoor sports activities. Do
family visits. Friday starts with a planning and evaluation meeting, general cleanup of ICT
equipment. The volunteer then engage village youth in a youth open day event. The event
happens at the mission house. It is full of funny team bonding games, a light snack and
sometimes a movie.
