Written Summary of Activity 1
Written Summary of Activity 1
Each member of the OR personnel has a variety of jobs inside the operating room, as I
learned from the video. Direct patient care is passed on to operating room personnel when a
patient is about to undergo a surgical treatment. Throughout the operation, the operating room
(OR) team is responsible for the patient's safety. This group should not just think about the
patient's privacy, but also about patient safety. Preventing infection from the surgical incision that
will be performed is one technique to improve patient safety inside the OR. I also learned that the
operating room (OR) team coordinate their work with each other to have a successful operation,
which is vital in order to avoid and prevent any mistakes or error before, during, and after the
procedure.
Each member of the health care team has a duty and responsibility that he or she must
fulfill in order to complete the procedure. Therefore, if one of the members of the health care team
fails to collaborate, the quality of treatment provided to the patient will lack as well. Also, the
operating team will not enhance patient outcomes, medical errors, inefficiency, or patient
happiness if there is no cooperation, proper communication, and concern for each other,
especially for the patient. Also, after watching the videos, I discovered that working in a team
allows you to accomplish more than working alone. Teams have the potential to improve clinical
care by combining and using a variety of knowledge to make better decisions, solve issues,
produce ideas, and complete tasks than any individual working alone. So, if the health care team
work collaboratively then they will come up with the right diagnoses, develop care plans, perform
procedures, offer appropriate follow-up, and provide overall high-quality care for patients.
I also do believe that role is not just about your work or job as a staff, for me having respect
for one another is also the role of the operating personnel or whatever area you are assigned, it
is one of the most important things that can help a health care team work together to meet the
demands of a client. Respect is one of the most crucial characteristics in a clinical context because
it fosters a healthy work environment in which you and your colleagues can achieve common
goals. Coordination in a team is also important since it aids in the maintenance and assurance of
efficient operations in rendering care to the patient.
One thing also I learned that, there may also be a barrier between the staff and the working
environment inside the operating room. Because of the differences in language especially in some
countries whose personnel in hospitals have different languages, they may have difficulty in
communicating and comprehending their tasks. If new employees are not provided with sufficient
training, they will lack confidence in their abilities to do their jobs. Teamwork can also create
barriers, such as how people get along with one another in order to reach a goal that improves
the quality of life and the outcome. That is why in the video I see how the operating room staffs
and personnel are very close to each other and respect one another.
I also realized that the operating surgeon, a scrub worker, an anesthesiologist, and a
circulating nurse are among the people who work in the operating room. Each member of the OR
team works together to accomplish certain tasks in order to create an environment that is most
beneficial to the patient.
To summarize, being operating personnel is not easy; it is one of the most challenging and
crucial aspects in all area assignments. But I'm actually enjoying watching the videos since I've
learned a lot, and I'm hoping to put what I've learned to good use in the future.
