Draft A (2013-01-30)
Compared with Issue 01 (2012-07-20) of RAN14.0, Draft A (2013-01-30) of RAN15.0 includes
the following changes.
2 Overview
With the development of mobile communications, the wireless network coverage increasingly
extends to remote areas. At the same time, there is a rapid increase in the requirements for
network services in remote areas. Generally, the terrain, climate, or traffic conditions in remote
areas may be unfavorable. In this case, the network maintenance is difficult and a common fault
may persist for a long time.
Huawei presents the RRU redundancy feature to facilitate the site maintenance. With RRU
redundancy, a local cell is configured with two TX channels. If one TX channel is faulty, the
system automatically switches to the other TX channel. RRU redundancy offers a standby TX
channel to enhance the reliability and robustness of the Radio Access Network (RAN). This
feature reduces the period of service disruption caused by the TX channel fault and improves
the quality of services. Therefore, the network coverage can be ensured.
3 Technical Description
Based on the cell configuration, RRU redundancy is classified into the following two modes:
Step 1 The NodeB calculates the maximum available TX power Ptot for the cells on the faulty TX
channel.
Ptot = Maximum available TX power of the good TX channel – TX power already allocated to
the cells on the good TX channel
Step 2 The NodeB re-allocates the maximum available TX power for each cell on the faulty TX channel.
The NodeB allocates the TX power Pj for each cell on the faulty TX channel (Pj = Original TX
power of the cell – 3 dB). If Ptot – ∑Pj > 0, the NodeB allocates the remaining power evenly
to the cells on the faulty TX channel. The available power of each cell, however, must not exceed
the maximum power originally configured for the cell.
Step 3 The RNC performs the corresponding operations based on the value of
CellCapacityAutoHandleSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910).
----End
l If CellCapacityAutoHandleSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to
TX_DIVERSITY_ON_TO_ON, the RNC does not send the related command to the
NodeB. You can infer that the procedure is complete.
l If CellCapacityAutoHandleSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to
TX_DIVERSITY_ON_TO_OFF and the power meets the condition: MaxPower(rnc)
≤ MaxPower(nodeB) + 3 dB, the RNC requests the NodeB to re-establish the cells and
enables the no transmit diversity mode. The cell re-establishment interrupts the ongoing
services and the disruption period is less than 30s.
NOTE
The NodeB does not remove the logical cell before receiving the cell re-establishment command from the
RNC.
Step 1 The NodeB updates the maximum available TX power of each cell on the restored TX channel
after the transmit diversity configuration.
Step 2 The RNC performs the corresponding operations based on the messages reported by the NodeB.
l If CellCapacityAutoHandleSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to
TX_DIVERSITY_OFF_TO_OFF, the RNC does not send the related command to the
NodeB. You can infer that the procedure is complete.
l If CellCapacityAutoHandleSwitch(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to
TX_DIVERSITY_OFF_TO_ON, the RNC performs Step 3.
Step 3 (Optical)For each cell whose TX diversity capability is enabled, the RNC checks the diversity
mode configured for the cell.

4 Engineering Guidelines
This section describes how to activate, verify, and deactivate the optional feature WRFD-040203
RRU Redundancy.
4.1 Requirements
l Dependencies on Hardware
– BTS3902E and BTS3803E do not support this feature.
l Dependencies on Other Features
– This feature does not depend on other features.
l License
The license "RRU Redundancy(per Sector)" on the NodeB side has been activated. For
details about the license items and how to activate the license, see License Management
Feature Parameter Description.
4.3 Activation
Using MML Commands
l Scenario 1: cells configured in transmit diversity+MIMO mode
Step 2 Run the NodeB MML command ADD SECTOREQM. The sector device used by the local cell
needs two TX antennas, which must be both set to MASTER(Master).
Step 3 Run the NodeB MML command ADD ULOCELL to add a local cell.
----End
Step 1 Run the NodeB MML command ADD SECTOREQM. The sector device used by the local cell
needs two TX antennas. In this step, set TX Antenna 1 Master/Slave Mode to MASTER
(Master) and set TX Antenna 2 Master/Slave Mode to SLAVE(Slave).
Step 2 Run the NodeB MML command ADD ULOCELL to add a local cell.
----End
l When configuring the RRU Redundancy feature on the CME, you must configure a single configuration
first, and then perform batch modifications if required.
l You must perform a single configuration for a parameter before batch modifications of the parameter.
You are advised to perform batch modifications before logging out of the parameter setting interface.
Set parameters on the CME configuration interface according to the operation sequence
described inTable 4-2. For the method of performing the CME single configuration, see the
CME Single Configuration Operation Guide.
Step 2 (Optional) Modify objects in batches on the CME. (CME batch modification center)
To modify objects, such as RNCs, NodeBs and cells in batches, click the icon on the CME
configuration interface to start the batch modification wizard. For the method of performing
batch modifications through the CME batch modification center, press F1 on the wizard interface
to obtain online help.
----End

Step 2 Run the NodeB MML command LST LOCELL to query whether the local cell is configured
with two power amplifiers.
