Duration:2:00Hr Max. Marks:35

1 If the step response of a system is s[n] = (2 − ( 21 )n u[n]) find the response of the system to
x[n] = u[n] − u[n − 4].

2 A discrete -time system with input x[n] and the oupt y[n] is described in the frequency domain
by the relationship
dX(ω)
Y (ω) = e−j2πω X(ω) +

a) Compute the response of the system to the input x[n] = δ[n]
b) Check if the system is LTI and stable.

3 Derive the function for the frequency response in the form A(ω)ejθ(ω) for the FIR filters given
below Also identify the type of filters

H1 (z) = 1 + z −3 + z −6

H2 (z) = 1 + z −1 + z −2 − z −3 − z −4 − z −5

4 Determine the inverse Z-transforms

1 −1
X(z) = 1 −3 | z |> (3) 3
1− 3
z

X(z) = sin(z), ROC includes | z |= 1

5 Consider the sequences x1 [n] = [0, 1, 2, 3, 4] and s[n] = [1, 0, 0, 0, 0] and their five-point DFTs.
Find the sequence x2 [n] such that S(k) = X1 (k)X2 (k).

6 a) The z-transform of the sequence x[n] = u[n] − u[n − 7] is sampled at five points on the unit
circle as follows:
X(k) = X(z) | j2πk , k = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4
z=e

Determine the inverse DFT x [n] of X(K). Compare it with x[n] and explain the results.

7 Determine the coefficients of a linear-phase FIR filter

y[n] = b0 x[n] + b1 x[n − 1] + b2 x[n − 2]

such that a) It rejects completely a frequency component at ω0 = 3
b) its frequency response is normalized so that H(0) = 1

8 Consider the system described by the difference

y[n] = ay[n − 1] − ax[n] + x[n − 1]

a) Show that it is allpass fitler

b) Obtain the direct form II realization of the system.
