Secondary education
On a Filipino perspective, to become globally competitive we must learn the
second language that we can adapt through learning with the help of educational
institutions that will serve as an edge to prevent language barrier. Secondary education
is a stage of education that contains various academics subjects that elevate
expectations. Secondary education exceeds its standards when it comes in the
discipline of every major subjects. In this case, the use of secondary language may help
students to move beyond further breaking those expectations and standards and can
help them fit themselves on every people across the globe despite diversity. When
proceeding on the secondary education, underneath every subject contains various
discipline and the medium of communication used was the second language. The use
of secondary language will help the students to be more globally competitive and be
literate which they can use to step up for a better future, the students will adapt
secondary language and use it as a facade of their learning outcome when they will
enter on their preferred course on the near future.
Growth of technology use
Since technology is expanding and constant, it creates a massive change when it
comes on our daily necessities. Information Communication Technology (ICT) plays a
major role in the classroom specially in today's world because it can be a great tool to
empower students to get a wide range of knowledge using technology. Integration of
ICT or the other term for Information Communication Technology has enhanced the
development speed in the entire education system. It integrates through the learning
teaching process to deliver the information efficiently. Educational institutions started
seeing integration of Information and Information Communication Technology (ICT) in
education as a thoughtful and a systematic approach towards assessing the entire
process of designing, learning, utilizing, evaluating, developing and managing the
instructional strategies which can help both and teachers to adapt the new learning
system that is currently implementing by the department of education to continue
education amidst pandemic. On the module, The European Union or the EU invested
ICT in schools to develop the connectivism approach wherein technology is the center
for teaching this will help the students and teachers equip themselves to the new
learning system, it benefits them to explore any field and use it to produce future
taxpayers that will make the economy progress. CALL or the Computer Assisted
Language Learning was also highlighted from the module wherein it absorbed the
mainstream thinking, education and practice which means that due to its various
domains it can make ICT or Information Communication Technology and the Secondary
Language as a discipline and practice on the field of education.
Teacher training and continuing professional development and ICT
In this module, teacher is the center. The traditional way of teaching
encompasses with instructional materials such as blackboards, textbooks, charts,
pictures, posters, maps and other materials used for teaching have been changed due
to the massive evolvement of technology and its affect in the system of education.
Some teachers are also having a hard time to conform on the modern world. The
training of ICT helps teacher to used different technologies as a medium of teaching. In
order to know if the technology is an alternative way for delivering the content and a
method that creates an effective way on the pedagogical knowledge, teachers will train
to conform on the modern world by practicing the use of technology and to know if this
creates a negative or positive impact on the achievement of every student. For those
teachers who have limited or don’t have any devices, they become innovative and
create their own way to conform on this modern world via PLN or Personal Learning
Network this is the product of an initiative characteristic of the teacher they can produce
various ideas and creative way to still fit on the changes. They use social networks and
online communities to be able to connect with another teacher across the globe.
Personal Learning Network or PLN was developed through Personal Learning
Environment or PLE. Based on what I have learned from my subject on shs which is the
Trends Network and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century, networks are composed of
ties and nodes anode might be a person, a computer or even a hyperlinked text.
Connections are bindings links between nodes. In this case, a teacher my have their
own teaching strategies due to the blended ideas they gained from their environment
and through this they can use it to create a link to the other people or a device which
they can use to build their own understanding and techniques that they can use for the
professional development. Professional development is a passion of someone and the
heart of the outcome of their learning. Through entering the field, teachers will collab
with other teacher to implement technology in classroom as well as in the new system
of our education to have an effective way to deliver knowledge. Using language, the
flow of information will be easier for the teacher to know the dos and don’ts of learning
technologies.
Digital divide is the economic gap or a barrier in socio economic levels to
access information and communication technologies (ICT). Some teachers are
experiencing lack of technology to be able to break the stigma we need the help of the
telecollaboration. Telecollaboration is the use of different online communications tools
that allow participants to collaborate and work in groups, benefiting from the virtual
exchange. The metacognitive(thinking about thinking) were not restricted to students.
They extend to the teacher, working together with a colleague and being able to
observe their interaction with their students, to learn about the goals, methods and
achievements of a different academic system without having the idea of 'no one left
behind' where anyone will unite for one goal to be motivated and to learn.
