Timars OHA-frame v5
Dear Sirs/madams
We congratulate you to your exellent choice of Timars OHA.
OHA is our short term for OverHeight Automatic eg. meaning Automatic Overheight frame.
Hereafter it will be refered as Timars OHA or simply OHA-frame.
The Timars OHA is an overheight frame for ISO sized flats/containers and is manufactured with high
Swedish quality, in accordance to EC directive 2006/42/EEC (machinery) annex 2, at our factory in
Sweden.
The OHA-frame will be a useful tool in your overheight cargo handling and in operation for long time
ahead.

Timars overheight frame is often delivered in three parts inside a container. The overheight frame
must be assembled in port according to Timars instructions. If this is the case you will find an
assembling instruction and a CD with your goods. On the CD you will find an animation showing
how to make this assembling. Follow these instructions and contact Timars if you have any
questions about the assembling.
2. See that all of the lower twistlock are in open position and that the safety pin
has partly filled the cut-out on the twistlock nut.
3. The indicator discs, 1 per longside, both shows green for open (if you
ordered other colour then this colour indicates open).
4. Place a parent spreader on top of the OHA-frame with all four twistlocks
correct located inside the corner castings and lock. Now lift the overheight
frame.
5. Extend stepless to desired size from 20 to 40 fot ISO box size. The mid beam will follow the short
side half that for the moment has little higher resistans than the other when telecopicing. When
reaching the inside stop the other side will extend. The opposite will happen when rectracting.
This is normal.
Observe that the parent spreader must be able to telescope with locked twistlocks to be able to
telescope the overheight frame. There might be a bypass function on the parent spreader to be
able to do this.
6. If you have the equipment that is shown on the pictures below then your OHA is equipped with a
SOC-system (further information see section SOC-system). Please continue the instructions
below.
7. Check that the display on the NAPS inside the electrical box is on and shows the voltage of the
batteries. If there are any error, please contact Timars or check the NAPS error list inside this
manual
8. Place the parent spreader inside the top corner castings of the OHA and lock (see item 4).
9. Open the parent twistlocks again. The SOC-system control lamp is now lightend up for a number
preset seconds (standard 20 sec.)
10. Check that SOC valve (On top of frame on SOC side) is in SOC-enable position.
Now test the Timars OHA with a container according the function description. If test is successful,
you are now able to use the overheight frame.
If the OHA-frame is not hanging on all four twistlocks of the parent spreader or if the
goods connected to the twistlocks of the OHA-frame have less than four functional corner
castings risk for injuries on personnel or damages on material is unevenable.
The free overheight distance is depending of which alternative you have chosen, see delivery doc.
The OHA-frame is secured to the parent spreader by the twistlocks of the parent spreader only.
The maximum SWL is marked on the mid/center beam, on the manufacturer identity plate and in
the documentation as well.
The frame can be of fixed or telescopic design. To extend/retract the size of the telescopic OHA-
frame use a telescopic parent spreader. The spreader must be able to telescope with locked
twistlocks. Alternative use a forklift truck lifting in one of the short end side for the extension or
retraction of the frame together again.
For all functions on the parent spreader please always consult each parent spreader documentation
separately.
When OHA-frame is not in use, it should be left in 20ft position on the ground or locked
onto a container or flat.
Warning!
The Timars OHA-frame needs no additional personnel, other than the operators, and therefore it is
prohibited to walk nearby or to be situated under/above the OHA-frame, with or without attached
cargo while it is in operation or moved. In case of so the manufacturer can not be held responsible
for damages here of.
Use only a parent spreader that has ISO twistlocks and with ISO box measures. See to that all four
twistlocks of the parent spreader is inside and corner castings of the OHA-frame.
Now lock the twistlocks of the parent spreader.
Deattaching of the parent spreader from the Timars OHA-frame is simply done by unlocking the
twistlocks of the parent spreader at any time when the OHA-frame is put down.

1. Place the parent spreader inside the corner castings of the OHA.
3. Lift the parent spreader and the OHA frame away. The fact that the OHA was resting on its twistlocks
prevents the twistlocks of the OHA from turning.

When the parent spreader is locked to the TIMARS OHA-frame and the SOC-control lamp is
lightened up (see section SOC-system) the twistlocks of the OHA-frame are altered every time the
parent spreader starts to lift. If your OHA-frame is not equipped with a SOC-safety system or if it
has been turned off by the manual control valve the twistlocks of the OHA-frame are altered every
time the parent spreader starts to lift. The Timars OHA-frame works by gravity & lift principle.
To release the SOC-blocking just open and close the twistlocks of the parent spreader, while
they are inside the OHA-frame and the OHA-frame is located inside the corner casting of a flat,
bolster or open top container. If you wait too long until you lift the frame the SOC-system will go
back to blocking the twistlocks again the

The advantage by this is that when ever the operator would like to leave the OHA-frame locked onto
a box or a flatrack without the parent spreader attached he just open the twistlocks of the parent
spreader and lifts the parent spreader away.
A vertical rotating disc, located on inside of the left hand side leg (from the long side view) of the
OHA-frame, indicates opened (green) or locked (red) position of the OHA-frame twistlocks. Other
colour can be decided on request. The design of the disc gives distinct and good visuability
information to the operator weather he is located in the crane, reachstacker, straddler carrier or any
other handler.
If the indicator (rotating disc) indicates both red and green at the same time (for example
a slice of green when the rest of the indicator is red) the twistlocks is not in locked or
unlocked position. Do not continue the lifting! Put the cargo down and make the
locking/unlocking procedure again.
Important! Before putting it in operation again do not forget to connect the twistlock to the axle
and secure the pin. The shape of the axle only sliding part to go back over the twistlock when you
have it in its correct position.
The parent spreader must allow extend/retraction while parent twistlocks are locked.
3.7 Indications:
An intelligent rotation disc, powered by chains to the twistlocks and
located on the left hand side leg (long side view), indicates red
(closed) or green (open) colour for the operator on reachstacker,
straddler carrier, crane or any other handler.
Weight:
20ft (not meassured), 40ft 2250kg, 20-40ft in free clearence height 1557mm is 2500kg.
Area temperature:
Make sure that the temperature surrounding the UNIVERSAL is inbetween -40o C and +50oC.
Outside this area the manufacturer can't be held responsible for damage caused here of.
4. Maintenance
All maintenance and repairing has to be according to the recommendation supplied by the
manufacturer. During this the TIMARS OHA frame must also be disconnected from any
other equipment and placed on a firm surface. If not, the gaurantee will no longer be valid
and the manufacturer can not be held responsible for damages caused hereby.

Problem.
The Timars OHA frame is locked but only connected in three corner castings of the flatrack
when lifted slightly, meaning one twistlock locked outside the corner casting.
Solution:
1. See section 2.3.5 STE-system how to manually turn the twistlock to open position.
2. Lower down the parent spreader until the top part of the leg has reach its lower
position.
3. Lift the parent spreader, so that the twistlock go back to open position.
4. Put the twistlock (STE-system) back to normal position and secure it.
5. Lower all four twistlocks back into the corner castings.
6. Lift the parent spreader and the Timars OHA is now fully connected to the flatrack.
Problem.
The indicator of the Timars OHA frame does not switch colour when connected to a flat and
lifting the parent spreader.
Solution:
1. Due to the fact that the twistlock of the Timars OHA has an STL-system you need to
inspect /remove wooden pieces, ice or other things inside the croner castings that are
preventing the twistlocks from turning.
2. Place it back again after inspection/correction and lift the parent spreader.
Please note! That if the Timars OHA frame is standing on the quay this is a natural behavour.
Problem.
The indicator is indicating partly red – partly green when slightly lifted.
Solution:
Most likely the operator has not forfilled the lift of the parent spreader until the green top
part of the leg has reached its outer position.
Lower it back down again and make a new lift(s) until it indicates single colour only.
5. Repair
This is only a guidance for fault search, settings and simple exchange of components. For more
complicated repair please consult your dealer or the manufacturer for correct guidance. Allways use
components or references given by manufacturer or provided in the delivery documents.

5.1.1.1 PLC
The PLC is for running the SOC-system. The PLC can give information about:
• Numbers of TEU that are handled
• The total time the overheight frame has been in operation
• The SOC time (how long time the SOC is opened)
• Current SOC time
Change the shown information by pressing + or –
Output:
