NARRATIVE REPORT IN “MILK FEEDING PROGRAM”

GUISET ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

“Health is wealth”, a very famous saying that has huge impact and significant meaning in human’s
life. That’s why human’s body can’t function properly without enough nutrition and proper diet and literally
can’t be productive in all aspects of life. In order to intensify health and nutrition among kindergarten and
grade school pupils, Guiset Elementary School as spearheaded with Nutrition Coordinator is running
School- Based Feeding Program for all kindergarten and some elementary pupils of this school as
launched and mandated by the Department of Education. The program aims to reduce acute/severe
malnutrition among kinder and some grade school pupils in the school even in the whole community.

The primary beneficiaries of the said program are incoming kindergarten learners and grades one to
six "under the wasted and severely wasted category in the nutritional status report."

Food packs were picked by the barangay tanod of San Andres I. Health and safety precautions
like social distancing, wearing facemask, disinfecting hands with alcohol and stepping to our school’s matt
is always observed as well during the claims of the foods. During feeding, health care practices such as
hand washing and tooth brushing were also promoted at home.

Even in all learning areas, teachers were also encouraged to integrate in their lessons the
importance of proper nutrition to support and achieve the objectives of the program which is to improve
the nutritional status of the pupils. In this way, not only the SBFP pupil recipients benefited but also the
whole population of the school. Parents were also involved to make them become aware of the health
and nutrition of their children. Because of the satisfactory result of the effort done by the persons involved,
a realization was made that, “a healthy body comes with a great mind”. As evidence of the full
implementation of the program, almost 100 percent of the severely wasted and wasted were rehabilitated.

School based feeding program was held in our school through the budget of the school canteen
to maintain the zero underweight and stunted that shows in the baseline nutritional status report. The
school based feeding program focused on the kindergarten pupils because there were lot of them that
falls on the line of going into underweight.

This result on the excitement of the pupils when the feeding time comes. Some of them were
guessing what menu was for that day. It also shows that the pupils who undergo the program were more
active during class hours and for other activities.
