GRC Screens
Glass fiber reinforced concrete (GRC) is a type of fiber-reinforced concrete. Glass fiber concretes are mainly used in
exterior building façade panels and as architectural precast concrete. Somewhat similar materials are fiber cement
siding and cement boards.
Composition
Broadly the formulation for GRC product is a mixture of 40% White Cement, 40% Fine Aggregates, 0.4% Plasticizers, 4%
Polymers, 11.5%-14% Water, and 3.5%-4% of AR Glass Fiber.
● Wide range of complex & splendid designs, shapes, textures and profiles
● Lightweight designs
● Easy to use
● Increased speed of handling
● Reduced erection and transportation costs
● Perfect finish
● Reduced dead loads on structures
● Reduced loadings results in reductions of structural and foundation costs
● Low permeability
● Strong & Sturdy
● Excellent fire properties
● Environment-friendly

ADVANTAGES OF GLASS FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE
● In many environmental conditions when exposed to salts or moisture, the GFRC is likely to function optimally due to the absence
of reinforcement of steel.
● GFRC is thinner and stronger with 75% to 90% less weight than plain concrete.
● The reduced weight facilitates easy and rapid installation reduces the load applied to the structure.
● Lightweight and tough materials also reduce transportation expense, allow for flexibility in design and reduce impact on the
environment.
● The GFRC is less vulnerable to weather effects and it is more resistant to freeze-melting than normal concrete.
● LIGHT WEIGHT
Faster installation & savings in superstructure and foundations
● HIGH STRENGTH
Hard and dense surface offers resistance to graffiti
● DURABLE
Low maintenance & never rots or corrodes
● NO STEEL REINFORCEMENT
So, no electromagnetic interference with signaling cables
● NO HEALTH RISK
AR glass fibre is irrespirable unlike asbestos fibre
● EASY FIXING
Drying fixed with M.S. fixtures/Stainless steel

MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF GRC PANELS AND JALI
● This is the DIY made of fiber reinforced plastic .adding similar piece makes a
big DIY which we will use for making the panel
● Based on the required design this basic unit of DIY is been made.
● After that we will pour the gre mixture into the frame this process will take
around 8-10 hours to get set. Then the raw product will come out.
● Then the finishing process will done to the shapes and voids.

Case study : 50/60 Station Road Cambridge
Comprising of a new high quality office building arranged over two
basements, ground and eight upper floors including some restaurant at
ground floor. The site is situated on the south side of Station Road.
Pedestrian and vehicle access will be from Station Road. The building has
excellent views over Cambridge city centre.

UNDERSTANDING
In these diagrams, explaining the construction detail from the steel structure to the
GRC panels. The general understanding is the Metsec panel use as the external
wall, which support the glazing and GRC panel.
Metsec horizontal cladding supports with riveted end cleats are used as vertical
supports to the horizontal cladding panels. Joints in panels may require a wider
flange for fixing purposes which can be provided by using a Metsec panel joint rail.
Alignment of the steel face can easily be achieved by adjustment of the horizontal
rails on slotted cleats at the stanchion position.
The GRC panel adjusted on both vertical and horizontal rails, fixed with bracket
system onto the rails. The Metsec riveted onto the floor frame extended from floor
to ceiling. The GRC mounted on the external side of the ‘I’ beam, without relying on
Metsec as the bracing system.

Case study : ‘72 Screens’ , Jaipur ,India
Completed in April 2013, this office building is located in the city of Jaipur, India
which has a desert climate with average temperatures ranging from 30°C to 50°C
grade through most of the year.
The concrete screens around the building
are supported by a steel framework with
projections that vary from 0.9 to 1.5m . This creates
an external periphery space for plants at each level
that will act as further insulation from the external
heat creating cooler office spaces within. In addition
a glass reinforced concrete screen that takes its
inspiration from the old traditional ‘jali’ screens of
the architectural heritage of the region sheaths the
building on all sides further reducing the heat gain
and rendering the building very energy efficient.
