A Call To Responsibility
A Call To Responsibility
2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord
knoweth them that are his. And, Let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart
from iniquity.
2Ti 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also
of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2Ti_2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto
honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
Psa_100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all
generations.
Psa_34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in
him.
Nah_1:7 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them
that trust in him.
So we can sit down here and naturally conclude that His name is Jehovah Goodness.
Because the Lord our God by nature is good, it reflects in all the works of His hands.
During creation, our God, the Almighty One would pause to observe the quality of what
He had made and the bible would record: the Lord saw that it was good. From Genesis
1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21 and vs 25. Everything He made was good.
Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour is God’s incarnate in human form.
He is the image of God made visible and the voice of God made audible.
When Jesus came into this world as God personified, the bible still recorded how He
went about doing good including healing all that were oppressed by the devil because
God was with Him (Acts 10:38).
On the issue of goodness associated with God, 1Ti_4:4 For every creature of God is
good…
So far, we have been able to establish that God is good, the works of His hands are
good, as a man, He went about doing good, His creatures are good…; therefore, we can
safely conclude that whatever work God will do through anything or any man cannot be
short of the standard called GOOD.
2Ti_2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto
honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
At the point of creation, we are good (1Timothy 4:4), but at the level of living our
goodness is contaminated because of our entanglements with iniquities.
Iniquity is a general term to describe every act, thought and/or thing that God does
not approve of. This may include unwholesome words/statements, fornication, adultery,
violent anger, unforgiveness, drunkenness, lasciviousness, strife, quarrelling…etc
Once a man gets entangled with one of these things, he/she ceases to be good. As such,
there is no way God can use such a person and produce an output that is good. A
corrupted tree cannot produce good fruits even if you add 10 buckets of fine fertilizer
to it.
So Paul tells Timothy just as the Lord is telling us today that to produce an output of
the standard called good, the first thing a man must do is to purge himself of these
iniquitous things.
And this is the point where the call to responsibility comes in.
God has already made you good. You are perfect in nature.
If by any means you get entangled with something evil and become a vessel unto
dishonour, the type that God cannot directly work with, it becomes your responsibility
to purge yourself.
If for instance as a chorister in the house-hold of faith, you are given to lying. Even if
you the best soloist in your church with fantastic skills and voice quality, your output
cannot meet the standard called good because you are a liar.
You cannot continue to lie with the same mouth and at the same time use the same
mouth to praise the name of the Lord. Your oupt
Col_1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in
every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
