Transformation Stories:
Best of 2021
Need some motivation for your 2022 fitness resolutions?
You’ve come to the right place!
While the world was still figuring out how to navigate 2021, the Fittr community had
set very clear goals: we wanted to get fit and show our best selves to the world.
Several thousands of Fitizens made it their mission to get fit and stay healthy - and
the results are there for everyone to see.
Here’s a look back at 5 of the best transformations from the past year.

SUMIT SRIVASTAV

Before: 48 kg | After: 60 kg

21 FI TMA G | JANU ARY 202 2

Time taken: 1 year
Coach: Bala Krishna Reddy Dabbedi
Prior workout experience: Had been working out since 2011 on his own without
guidance.

I was always interested in fitness, weight training and trekking. It took a long 10 years
for me to get where I am, but it’s been a memorable journey. Just like most of us,
even I struggled a lot during this lockdown. I wanted to work with a fittr coach but it
was not possible due to financial issues. So I decided to participate in TC 13 on my
own and I read the get shredded document and applied it on myself. Making all the
quantified food for myself is a different pleasure that every single day was helping
me get closer towards my goal. All the efforts were rewarded when I was placed in
the Top 20 in TC13.
I was happy but not satisfied with what I achieved in TC 13, so I wanted to take my
transformation a step ahead and for that I enrolled with my coach Bala Krishna Reddy.
I remember in my first call with my coach that I said “ki sir aap bas believe karna
mujhpe definitely i will do everything to follow your instruction without any deviations”
and I’m happy with the condition I achieved in this TC !!!
Fittr and especially Transformation Challenges gave me an opportunity to better
myself with every passing week.
It instilled discipline and consistency in my lifestyle and which helped me when I was
placed in Top 250 in Transformation Challenge 12, Top 20 in Transformation Challenge
13, and finally when I won Transformation Challenge 14!

This journey was not possible without my Mentor Bala Krishna Reddy. You are an
amazing Coach and I will always be thankful to you for whatever I have achieved.

22 FI TMA G | JANU ARY 202 2

SUMEDHA PITRE

Before: 52.4 kg | After: 44.7 kg

Coach: Dr. Aakash Bansal

Before and after body fat percentage: 33% to 22.8%
Time taken: 7 months and still ongoing
Health issues: I had Piriformis syndrome, but now I’ve recovered and also
managed to keep all other issues at bay.
Prior lifting/workout experience: I started strength training in September 2020
before joining Fittr. Before that, I used to do yoga, walking, HIIT and some kind
of physical activity.

“After trying and testing most of the fad diets in order to lose fat, I ended up with a bad
body composition. I felt as if I was a couple of decades older than my current age.
Although I used to practice portion control, the results weren’t up to my expectations.
I was living with the constant feeling of “something isn’t working right” in my mind.

23 FI TMA G | JANU ARY 202 2

Then during the lockdown, I came across Dr. Aakash Bansal’s workout videos on
YouTube and found them effective. Finally, I enrolled under him in February 2021. Since
then, this journey has been a roller coaster ride with “highs and lows”. All through this,
Dr. Aakash has been extremely supportive and patient.

All my worries about fat loss were put to rest as I started noticing changes in terms
of inch loss, improved confidence and strength. I was the happiest when I realized
that my clothes had become loose. I haven’t achieved my goal yet, but I am pretty
confident that under my coach’s able guidance, I will achieve it. Today, my husband
is enrolled under Dr Aakash too and I also managed to inspire some of my friends
and family members to make healthier lifestyle changes.”

RAJAN KOCHAR & RICHA PANDEY

Rajan Kochar: Before - 78.5 kg After - 72 kg

24 FI TMA G | JANU ARY 202 2

Body fat %: 15% to 7.7%
Coach: Bala Krishna Reddy
Time taken: 12 weeks
Prior lifting experience/Workout history: Regular weight training for 1.5 years,
prior to that unstructured lifting on and off

Richa Pandey: Before - 54.5 kg After - 50 kg

Body fat %: 19% to 15.5%
Coach: Sheikh Nadir Siddiquee
Time taken: 12 weeks

Prior lifting experience/Workout history: Started running during the

pandemic, no lifting experience.

“As busy doctors with young kids, time is a scarcity for us. But we also understand the
value of health and fitness. When we heard about the Fittr Transformation Challenge
14, we thought that it’s the best opportunity to focus on our fitness. And so, we enrolled
under a coach and participated in the TC with specific goals.

Richa wanted to be leaner and stronger. She ate healthy and was a regular runner
(~ 15-20 km/week) but her progress had hit a plateau. I had been weight training
regularly but needed to figure out how to do a body recomposition and get shredded
(lose fat and still gain muscle or at least hold on to most of the muscles). We mostly
ate home cooked meals, and the concept of strict quantified nutrition was a game
changer for us. A personalized workout plan from our coaches and the accountability
towards them was equally important.

A big thanks to Bala Krishna Reddy and Sheikh Nadir Siddiquee for their invaluable
guidance! As doctors, we know the consequences of neglecting health & fitness. Fittr
has revolutionized the concept of fitness by making it simple and accessible.

Many of our friends have taken a leaf out of our book and started working out

and quantifying their food too! Moreover, we make sure to share our Fittr nutrition
knowledge with our patients to motivate them!”

MAYURI KOHLI GUPTA

Before: 104 kg | After: 66.4 kg

Coach: Sushma Pachouri
Time taken: Over 2 years

the day. Later when I gave birth to twins, I had to go through a lot of pregnancy
complications—which again resulted in weight gain. I had mixed feelings—I was very
happy to become a mother, but at the same time I was worried about my health.
They say that you don’t take action unless you’re uncomfortable, and I was indeed
very uncomfortable with myself. So I started taking guidance under a fitness trainer,
cut down on all the processed food and started doing supervised workouts. I lost fat
but then hit a weight loss plateau.

Next, I enrolled under Dr Sushma Pachouri to accelerate my journey further. I learnt so

much more about nutrition. I used to fear eating rice at night but then I understood
that quantification of food is important, the timing doesn’t play a role here. Now I’ve
been eating quantified rice at night and making good progress! My aim is to not be
satisfied just because I made some progress, I want to keep going and I will, what’s
your excuse?”

Hailing from a humble background,

let this stop her!

The fire in her to get back to living a

healthier life drove her to participate in
Fittr’s Transformation Challenges 12, 13

this, she kept grinding until she made it
to the prestigious stages of Sheru Classic

All this hard-work paid off big time when

she was crowned the Grand Prize Winner

Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting Dhyan

BUSTING HEALTH MYTHS
PROTEIN
Top 5 Myths About Protein
(And What Science Recommends!)
Here’s a topic that never seems to get resolved. We know that protein is an important
macronutrient and is a building block of the body and yet, far too many people are
still confused by it.
How much protein should we consume? Is it safe? How much is too much? And the
big one: do vegetarians have a hope in hell of getting sufficient protein?
Let’s tackle these questions headon and dispel some myths, with the help of science!

Myth #1: High Protein Harms The Body

How do we define “high protein”? Anywhere between 1.5 to 2.5 gm per kg of bodyweight
is labelled a high quantity of protein. The fear is that consuming so much protein
can lead to side-effects ranging from kidney stones, high uric acid levels and other
related health problems.
When you cast aside bias and emotions, the science does NOT support the claim
that a high protein diet is dangerous. People that consume higher protein diets are
leaner, have better health outcomes, better body composition, lower inflammation,
and show improvements in blood pressure and blood lipids.
In a year-long study that included resistance-trained males, subjects consumed a
high protein diet (more than 3 gm per kg of bodyweight) for six months. They showed
NO negative health effects, this includes no harmful effects on kidney function, blood
lipids, and liver function. In fact, despite the increase in protein, subjects did not
increase their fat mass.

43 FI TMA G | JANU ARY 202 2

However, there is a caveat: For people with pre-existing renal disease (kidney failure)
a high protein diet may be a concern but as far as everything I’ve read, it’s still not
proven, especially in long term studies.
Given this, people that consume higher protein diets are healthier than people who
don’t, it does not mean you should construct your diet only around your protein intake
while neglecting the other macronutrients.

Myth #2: Vegetarians Can’t Get Enough Protein

In a country that loves its Dal, it’s almost sacrilege to say that vegetarians don’t get
enough protein. When most Indians are asked where they get their protein, dal is
topmost on that list.
Sorry to bust your bubble but dal isn’t nearly as rich in protein as you may think.
But that doesn’t mean vegetarians can’t get enough protein.
The following infographic should be your go-to guide for all things veggie protein:

100 gm 150 gm
6 Eggs
Chicken Breast Prawns

40 gm 100 gm 200 gm
Soya Chunks Rajma Paneer

Some other vegetarian sources of protein include smart food combinations such as
Rajma and Rice, all forms of dairy products, soy & tofu.

44 FI TMA G | JANU ARY 202 2

Myth #3: Whey Is A Steroid
“1 Scoop Whey!”
I’m sure a lot of eyeballs nearly popped out of their sockets when people saw whey
protein in that infographic.
After all, we’ve been led to believe that whey protein is a steroid or, at the very least,
should be consumed sparingly as it has “side-effects”.
Just because it comes in a box and in powder form does not make it unnatural (by
this logic even masalas are unnatural). Whey is nothing but a by-product of dairy
and is generated during the process of making cheese, dahi and paneer. It is suitable
for all age groups and there are no side effects.
Treat whey protein just like any other food. It helps complete your daily protein intake
and is perfectly safe.

Myth #4: Only Athletes & Bodybuilders Need Protein

Also known as “I don’t need protein if I don’t exercise!”
All of us - man, woman, child - have muscles. Whether we work out or not, we need
protein to take care of these muscles.
Diets in India are especially deficient in protein which is a shame. Inadequate protein
has been linked to several health issues including muscle loss, kwashiorkor (a form of

45 FI TMA G | JANU ARY 202 2

malnutrition in children caused by protein deficiency), and many others.
Athletes and bodybuilders may require more protein because of their sport, but the
rest of us mere mortals need it as well.
Here’s a handy chart:

Quality Sources of Protein

Egg Chicken Fish Soya Chunks Paneer Rajma Lentils

15 gm 24 gm 26 gm 53 gm 20 gm 24 gm 10 gm

(Per 100 gm)

Myth #5: Older Adults Don’t Need As Much Protein

As we age, our activity levels drop and we may require lower calories per day
compared to our younger selves. But, it would be wrong to assume that our protein
requirements reduce with age.
Advancing age comes with the risk of sarcopenia, or age-related muscle loss. Protein
plays a vital role in preventing this condition.
The RDA of protein for adults is 0.8 gm per kg of body weight. For older adults, the RDA
is anywhere between 1.0 to 1.2 gm per kg of body weight.
The message is clear: eat your protein, no matter your age, gender, and level of
physical activity.
