Currency: the timeliness of the information

● When was the information published or posted?

● Has the information been revised or updated?

▪ I saw that One source has been updated, the other one no though

● Are the links functional?

▪ Yes, you can access to Both links, they are functional, also they are talking about the same
situation and have the same theme, same idea and the same concept, but one source has more
information and more facts.

Relevance: the importance of the information for your needs

● Who is the intended audience?

o In general is for Ecuadorian citizens, because we are living the exception state, but especially for
Guayaquil population.

● Is the information at an appropriate level (i.e. not too elementary or advanced for your needs)?

o Talking about me, t it is not too elementary because it is nothing for my needs, but I think the topic it´s
important, and it can be interesting to read it to be about the situation of our country, even if we are not
directly affected.

● Looking at the two sources, which one would you use?

o Obviously The first source, because of what I saw, there are more facts to support the general topic, has
extra information, also it has very clear context.

● Would you be comfortable using this source for a research paper?

o Kind of. It is a reliable source and has a lot of information about the topic. However, I should look for other
sources that are mainly related with the facts. For example, some interview.
Authority: the source of the information

● Who is the author/publisher/source/sponsor?

o The author of one source is Lina Zambrano and in the other one is Anny Bazán, both are from
newspaper.

● Are the author's credentials or organizational affiliations given? What are they?

o Both of the authors are affiliated to a newspapers web.

● What are the author's qualifications to write on the topic?

o The authors talked about the topic with specific details.

● Is there contact information, such as a publisher or e-mail address?

o There are a lot of information from other websites and social media, they put links and images to have
further explanation.

● Does the URL reveal anything about the author or source? Examples:
o com (commercial),
o .edu (educational),
o .gov (U.S. government),
o .org (nonprofit organization),
o or .net (network)

Accuracy: the reliability, truthfulness, and correctness of the content

● Where does the information come from?

o The information is given by the police department and the coronel Ricardo Manitio

● Is the information supported by evidence?

o It is supported by citizens and the stolen business Pycca.

● Can you verify any of the information in another source or from personal knowledge?

o Yes because on other sources it talked about the same information.

● Does the language or tone seem biased and free of emotion?

o No, they don’t have a specific tone.

● Are there spelling, grammar, or other typographical errors?

o There are no grammar mistakes.


Purpose: the reason the information exists

● What is the purpose of the information? to inform? teach? sell? entertain? persuade?

o To inform about what is happening in their community.

● Is the information fact? opinion? propaganda?

o The information is based on facts.

● Does the point of view appear objective and impartial?

o Objective because many sources talk about the same.

● Are there political, ideological, cultural, religious, institutional, or personal biases?

o There are no other sources that talked about anything else about the topic.

After evaluating this source, do you think you will use it for an essay or paper? Why or why not? If you are not
sure, explain why.

It can be a good topic, yes. There are some topics that are vital to inform the population and to present a posture
between these topics. So, I think it should be interesting this and the jail situation.
