Inspection Xpert Project Creation Process
Inspection Xpert Project Creation Process
POJECT PROPERTIES
On the left side of the screen there will be a “Project Properties” tab. Pin the tab down
(using the Pushpin icon ) to have access to it while populating the following fields.
Use OCR tool to populate “Part Name”, “Part Number”, “Part Revision” fields.
The OCR tool allows you to Click and drag a box around information you are trying to
extract from the Drawing automatically.
(Always review information collected by the OCR tool as it can incorrectly populate
numbers and letters sometimes)
After populating the above fields Click the green Check box labelled “OK” to
automatically close and unpin the project properties tab and save the properties.
Grid
Enabling grids for zone locations
Click “File”
Click “Document”
Click “Grid”
On the left a popup window will come up in the top of this window there will be two
options of formatting the grid.
(The following instructions will all relate to this Pop up Window)
In the row section select the number of column zones on the print. (Vertical)
Also select the direction and type (Alpha or Numeric)
Follow the same process for the Row zones. (horizontal)
Now using the cursor drag the corners of the grid over lay to the beginning of grid zones
on the print .
(They should be visible with alpha numeric locations in the corner as seen below)
If no numbers or grid are visible click the buttons below to change their transparency.
You will need to do this for each page of a balloon drawing to ensure formatting is
consistent page to page.
After completing grid creation on all pages, change the grid to transparent mode so it
does not interfere with OCR characteristic extraction.
Ballooning
Click on the “Documents” tab at the top of the screen to start ballooning
Here you will find OCR extraction types, select the object that matches the type of
characteristic you will capture.
You can also use the hot keys for selection, Ctrl+N for “Note”, Ctrl+G for “Geometric” and
Ctrl+D for “Dimension”.
You can also right-click on the PDF and use the OCR dropdown menu.
Once tool type is selected, drag a capture rectangle over the “Dimension” or “Note” to be
extracted.
When ballooning items the balloon size and location may need to be manually edited or
moved due to overlap or a densely populated drawing. The below tools will help with this.
Balloon size can be adjusted by selecting the Pt size of the balloon # font.
Balloons can also be manually moved by clicking and dragging to the desired location.
(If the location of the balloon is remote to the Ballooned area you may click the balloon
and click the leader line button to create a leader line between the Extracted feature and
Balloon )
Notes / Dimension
When bubbling Notes and Dimensions extract using the preferred OCR tool.
Once completed you will see an image of what you captured on top of your
“Properties/Preferences” panel.
This is what the system sees, but below in the “Value” box is what the system actually
understands. It is important that this information is correct, review and edit to ensure the
values are correct.
Inside the “Value” box all specifications for the dimension should be specified including
Multiples and tolerances
(The reason for this is in order to publish correctly to the template, multiples and
tolerances need to be specified so formatting for the dimensional report is consistent
with their document requirements.)
In this example the dimension is measured 6 times and has a tolerance of ±.010.
So when we specify the values for this dimension it will be “6X Ø.330±.010 Thru”
The tolerance values and nominal values should be automatically populated based upon
the defaults that were setup in your template.
(Always review and edit the tolerance and nominal values to ensure the match the
drawing values)
Geometric Tolerances
When dimensioning “Geometric” dimensions you will need to build the Dimension within
the “Value” field using the “Geometric” definition tool.
(If there are multiples of the feature you will need to build this manually by clicking the
“Manual entry button” to ensure proper formatting as the automatic extraction tool
will not display Multiples within the “Value” area by default )
When building the “Geometric” dimension the following buttons will be useful
Used for GD&T symbols like Ø , ± ,°
“Geometric” values such as true position and form measurements such as flatness will
not have the + / - tolerance fields populated. Instead they will only have upper and lower
limit values as seen above.
After ballooning all “Notes”, “Dimensions” and “Geometric” Callouts ALWAYS review
Nominal, + Tol , -Tol as well as Upper Limit and Lower Limit fields. These fields will be
what the software uses to ensure compliance when we intake our CMM Data in
“MeasurementXpert”.
