Module 21 - W-01: Evolving Concept of Life Based On Emerging Pieces of Evidence What I Know

This document is a module that provides information on the evolving concept of life based on emerging evidence from Earth and life sciences. It includes activities that review key concepts about the history of life on Earth such as the earliest evidence of life, major extinction events, and the formation and breakup of supercontinents over geologic time. Another activity explains why studying the history of life is important for understanding how the world works, developing frameworks to base our lives on, and helping us understand other cultures. The module concludes with an assessment to test comprehension of the material.

Activity 12: Why Should I Study History of Life
★ I should study the history of life because first, history helps us to have a better understanding of the world. We cannot create a
framework on which to base our life without understanding how things work in the world. History has painted us a detailed picture
of how society, technology, and government worked in the past so we can better understand how it works today. It also helps us
determine how to approach the future, as it allows us to learn from our past mistakes (and successes) as a society, history also
helps us to better understand ourselves. Furthermore, history helps us learn to understand other people. History is not just an
important introduction to our own country, ethnic heritage, and ancestors. It is also an important tool when it comes to
understanding people other than us. World books, national, and regional histories help us understand how other cultures affect
ourselves.

Additional Activity
1.) The rocks way back billion years ago undergo rock cycle in which those rocks in the mountain undergoes weathering and some
goes to the river until it reaches the ocean. From the ocean the rocks goes to the trench and it is where being destroyed. The rock
goes to the mantle and melt and rises up again ang goes out from the volcanoes in a form of lava and cools down to form new
rocks. The process repeat again but it takes million or billion of years to happen. The rocks billions of years ago undergo rock
cycle and only few remain today.
