840 Performance Verification

1. Insure that the 840 ventilator under test meets the following
conditions:
1.1. Appropriate AC voltage has been set.
1.2. System has been warmed up for 10 minutes.
1.3. Flow sensors have been calibrated.
1.4. Expiratory valve calibration has been run.
1.5. Atmospheric pressure transducer calibration has been run.
1.6. System passes EST.
1.7. System passes VENT INOP test.
1.8. System passes 100% O2 sensor calibration.
1.9. System passes SST.

2. Calibrating the O2 sensor in the PTS2000.
Using the BreathLab PTS RPTS software, this procedure will require you
to calibrate the PTS2000 with 21% oxygen first, and then 100% oxygen
at a flow rate between 5 – 7 lpm.
2.1. Turn on the PTS2000 and let it warm up to ambient temperature
for at least 10 minutes.
2.2. If not already connected, connect the PTS2000 serial cable to the
computer. Turn the computer on and launch the BreathLabs PTS
RPTS program software on your computer by selecting START
-> PROGRAM -> BreathLab PTS RPTS Ver. 2.0_Rev. B ->
BreathLab PTS RPTS Ver. 2.0_Rev. B (OR current revision
BreathLab software).
2.3. Connect the bacteria filter assembly to the High Flow inlet port of
the PTS2000 as depicted in Figure 1. (NOTE: only the bacteria
filter assembly).
2.4. Connect the high pressure air hose to the DISS fitting on the
Technical Education air regulator assembly, then connect the high
pressure air hose to the wall air system outlet.
2.5. After insuring that the cover is removed from the High Flow
exhaust port at the rear of the PTS2000, connect the black rubber
stopper attached to the air regulator assembly to the inlet bacteria
filter attached to the High Flow port. Flush the system with 21%
O2 for at least two minutes.
2.6. On the computer, you should see the Log On / Session Information
screen. Click on the Calibrate button at the bottom of the screen.
2.7. Next, click on the Calibrate Oxygen button.
2.8. Now, click on the Adjust gain for 21 % O2 button. You should
see the “Adjust 21% O2 Successful” message appear.
2.9. Before doing anything else, disconnect the air hose from the air
supply and remove the air regulator setup from the PTS2000.
2.10. Connect the oxygen hose to the wall oxygen supply and connect
the rubber stopper on the oxygen regulator assembly to the inlet
bacteria filter on the PTS2000 High Flow port.
NOTE: Let the system flush with 100% oxygen for at least 2
minutes!

840 Service Education Workshop Manual Rev 02/01 3

2.11. After the system has been flushed with 100% oxygen for at least 2
minutes, click on the Adjust gain for 100 % O2 button. You
should see the “Adjust 100% O2 Successful” message appear.
2.12. Click on the Exit button twice to go back to the Log / On Session
Information screen. Now click on the Cancel button to exit the
BreathLabs PTS RPTS program.
2.13. Disconnect the oxygen hose from the wall oxygen supply and
remove the oxygen regulator setup from the PTS2000. Turn the
PTS2000, computer, and ventilator (if on) off.

3. 840 Performance Verification Setup:
NOTE: Follow these instructions step by step. Do not proceed out
of order. Ask the instructors if you have any questions.
3.1. Insure that the ventilator is connected to ac and that the high
pressure hoses are connected to the wall O2 and air supply (the
compressor may also be used to run performance verification).
3.2. Next, physically position the ventilator and PTS2000 close
together, so that the PTS2000 High Flow inlet port is lined up with
the ventilator’s “To patient” port, and that the PTS2000 High Flow
exhaust port is lined up with the ventilator’s “From patient” port.
3.3. Next, connect the gold standard tubing as shown in Figure 1:
“First PVT Setup” on page 56 of this workshop.
3.4. If your ventilator has the white metabolic port connector located
above the exhalation bacteria filter on the front of the BDU,
connect the tube from the PTS2000 low flow inlet port to the
metabolic port connector on the ventilator. Otherwise, skip this
step.
3.5. Connect the cables as shown in Figure 2 on page 57.
3.6. Now, turn on the computer.
3.7. Next, turn on the PTS2000. Make sure the PTS2000 front panel
indicates that it is in REMOTE OPERATION.

Other Screens button and click on the External Test Control
button.
3.9. Now, select Start - > Programs -> BreathLab PTS - >
BreathLab PTS 840 Ventilator Test Software. Click once on
840 VTS to launch the 840 ventilator test software. You should
see the program locating the PTS2000 and ventilator port
connections.
3.10. At the Login Screen, click on the Select username box (a drop
down menu should appear). Select whatever name is available
(example: Tech Service).
3.11. Next, click on the green checkmark button to pull up the 840 Test
