Geogebra Lesson Plan

This document provides standards, objectives, tasks, materials, and instructions for a 4th grade geometry review lesson using GeoGebra. Learners will identify and draw different geometric shapes, lines, angles, and their properties on GeoGebra. They will complete tasks independently and collaboratively in breakout rooms on Zoom. Learners will be evaluated on their participation in breakout rooms and on their individual work submitted through Schoology. The lesson allows learners to reinforce geometry concepts through an interactive activity on GeoGebra.

GeoGebra - 4th Grade Geometry Review

Standards:

- CC.2.3.4.A.1 - Draw lines and angles and identify these in two-dimensional

figures.
- CC.2.3.4.A.3 - Recognize symmetric shapes and draw lines of symmetry.
- CC.2.3.4.A.2 - Classify two-dimensional figures by properties of their lines and
angles.
- 15.3.5.M - Apply proper etiquette when using technology.

Objectives:

- Learners will draw, identify and name rays, lines, and segments on GeoGebra.
- Learners will draw and identify perpendicular and parallel lines on Geogebra.
- Learners will identify obtuse, acute, right and straight angles on GeoGebra.
- Learners will identify properties of squares & rectangles on GeoGebra.

Task:

Over Zoom, learners will engage in an interactive geometry-focused activity on

GeoGebra, which is a site that allows for the creation and exploration of geometry
concepts and figures. In Zoom breakout rooms, learners will complete a checklist of
activities. For example, learners will have to draw different types of angles and label
them accordingly on GeoGebra. They will screenshot the completed items on their
checklist and submit them to the assignment on Schoology. This will all be done on their
iPads and act as an end of unit review.

Materials/Tools:

iPads, Zoom, GeoGebra site, checklist of geometry terms and figures

Instruction/Introduction/Student Tasks:
Model: To begin the lesson, introduce GeoGebra to learners. Have them split the
screen on their iPads so that they can remain on Zoom and GeoGebra at the same time
with their cameras still on. After a few minutes of exploration, have them share what
tools they found or any other noticings. After sharing, review a few vocabulary terms,
such as acute and obtuse angles. While screen sharing on Zoom, explain that an acute
angle is less than 90 degrees. Using the tools on GeoGebra, draw an acute angle and
label it accordingly.

Collaborative: After modeling how to complete a task, introduce the checklist of

figures, angles, and lines they need to draw and identify on GeoGebra. Explain to
learners that they will be split into two breakout rooms on Zoom. In the breakout rooms,
the two groups will need to each draw and label the next two items on the checklist
(obtuse and right angles, for example). While they are working collaboratively in the
breakout rooms, each learner must complete the task on their own iPad; however, they
can work together to create the correct visuals. Once they all agree, they will nominate
a spokesperson to share their screen with the entire class back in the regular Zoom
session.

Independent: After returning to the full group Zoom room, have the
spokespeople share their screens so that the entire class can see what each breakout
room came up with. Next, explain to learners that they will finish completing the
checklist on their own, screenshot their work, and submit it to the assignment on
Schoology. This will be done asynchronously after the main Zoom meeting.

Evaluation:

Learners will be evaluated during the breakout room sessions, as well as formally
through their independent work. While learners are in the breakout rooms, they will be
assessed on their group discussions and the accuracy of their completion of the task.
The independent work will be graded in Schoology regarding accuracy and timeliness.
Their use of GeoGebra will also be assessed to ensure understanding of the tool itself.
