SECTION 16770

DISABLED TOILET CALL SYSTEM

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including Conditions of Contract, apply to
this Section.

1.2 SUMMARY

A. This section includes the following:

1.Disabled Call Controller.


2. Pull cord - call point.
3. Reset point.
4. Over door indicator and sounder.
5. Disabled toilet Sticker.
6.All wiring, conduit, boxes and accessories and ancillary work, whether described in the
Specification or not, required for a complete and fully operational system.

B. Related Sections include the following:

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each item of the system equipment, Include manufacturer's standard
details and installation and maintenance instructions.

B. Shop Drawings: For each item of the call system. Include plans, elevations, and details
of typical members and other components. List all components of the system, supported
by catalogues and manufacturer's technical data. Show layout and installation details,
including anchorage details and mounting methods.

C. Wiring Diagrams: Detail wiring for disabled toilet call system equipment, signal, and
control systems and differentiate between manufacturer-installed and field-installed
wiring. Show locations of connections to electrical service provided in other Sections.

D. Samples for Initial Selection: Manufacturer's color charts showing the full range of colors
available for equipment with factory-applied color finishes.

E. Qualification Data: For firms and persons specified in "Quality Assurance" Article to
demonstrate their capabilities and experience. Include lists of completed projects with
project names and addresses, names and addresses of architects/engineers and
owners, and other information specified or required by Engineer.

F. Maintenance Data: For the system components to include in the maintenance manuals.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

Installer Qualifications: Engage an experienced installer who is an authorized


representative of the disabled call system manufacturer for both installation and
maintenance of the type of units required for Project, and whose installations have resulted
in construction with a record of successful in-service performance.

1.5 POWER SUPPLY

A battery back-up facility shall continue to power the system for up to 24 hours standby and
15 minutes (alarm running time) in the event of mains failure.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 DESIGN AND OPERATION

A. The Disabled Toilet Call System should be attractively designed, easy to install and
simple to use, allowing a distressed person to raise a call in the event of an emergency.
To operate, the user simply pull a cord to activate a light and sounder outside the WC.
B. The system should help system operator and service providers comply with the
requirements of BS8300.

2.2 SYSTEM FEATURES

A. Attractive compact design blends perfectly into any sort of decor.


B. Double gang call controller features a volt-free relay output, a rotary volume control,
C. Braille text and on-board rechargeable battery backup facility.
D. Remote reset point c/w sounder provides audible and visual indication of an alarm call
inside the WC to reassure users help is on the way .
E. Simple to install 12V system.
F. Heavy duty call point.
G. Disabled WC sticker included in all kits.
H. All wall-mounting plastic accessories fit 25mm back boxes.
I. Rechargeable back-up battery provides up to 24 hrs stand-by and 15 mins alarm running
time.
J. System can be easily expanded.
K. Comply with BS8300.

2.4 SYSTEM COMPONENTS

A. Disabled Call Controller:

1. The call controller shall be complete with onboard 12V power supply unit, a volume
adjustable buzzer, a zonal alarm LED (to provide audible and visual indication of a
call), a mute/reset button (for silencing or canceling calls) and a volt-free relay with
normally open, closed and common contacts. It shall also include a battery back-

up facility that will continue to power the system for up to 24 hours standby and 15
minutes (alarm running time) in the event of mains failure.

2. One controller should control a minimum of four disabled zones up to 64 zones.


Controllers shall be connected in a peer-to-peer communication network.

3. Technical Specifications:

a. Mains supply: Voltage: 230V a.c.; Max current: 23mA; Frequency: 60Hz.
b. Output Voltage: 12Vd.c.; Current: 140mA; Volt-free relay contacts (NO/C/NC).
c. Indicators: Red alarm present LED; Green supply present LED (flashes green
when battery back up is active in the event of mains failure).
d. Controls: ‘RESET’ Button (link selectable for reset, mute or no function).
e. IP Rating: IP45.

B. Reset Point:

1. The reset point shall be complete with sounder and designed for use alongside the
WC, allowing calls generated by the disabled person to be cancelled at source, i.e.
inside the WC. It also features an on-board reassurance LED and sounder (to
provide audible and visual indication of an alarm call inside the WC and to help
reassure users that help is on its way).

2. Technical Specifications:

a. Input: Voltage: 12V d.c.; Connections: Signal, -Ve and +Ve.


b. Indicators: Red reassurance LED active in alarm.
c. Sounder: Active in alarm.
d. IP Rating: IP45.

C. Pull cord-Call Point


1. The Call Point shall be heavy duty type, specially designed for ease of use by the
infirm, incorporating a red confidence indicator (to reassure the user that a call has
been made).

b. Pull cord: Generates an alarm call when activated.
c. Indicators: Red reassurance LED active in alarm.

D. Over door indicator

1. The over door indicator shall be complete with light & sounder which shall be used
to provide additional audible and visual indication of an alarm call outside the WC,
featuring a series of ultra-bright LEDs in a triangular shaped diffuser making it
highly visible from a distance. It shall be located directly outside the WC above the
door or above handicapped room doors.

2. Technical Specifications:

a. Input: Voltage: 12V d.c.; Connections: Signal, -Ve and +Ve.


b. Indicators: Dual ultra-bright red LEDs active in alarm.
c. Sounder: Active in alarm.
d. IP Rating: IP45.

E. Disabled WC Sticker

The disabled WC sticker, gloss finished in permanent vinyl featuring the universally
recognizable Disabled WC symbol.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. General: Equipment installation on site shall be limited to the layout and fixation, and
inter-wiring of various items of the ready-made equipment. Acceptance of works is to
be restricted to the equipment and installations complying with the approved submittal,
approved shop drawings, and the agreement of Engineer.

B. Co-ordination with other Works: Undertake the proper co-ordination between the works

and installations of all other associated systems. The layout shop-drawings shall also
reveal the measures taken therein, and every fixation principle, and is to be subject to
the approval of Engineer.

C. Install equipment to comply with manufacturer's written instructions.

D. Wiring Method: Install wiring in raceway except within consoles, desks, and counters.
Conceal cable and raceway except in unfinished spaces.

E. Splices, Taps, and Terminations: Make splices, taps, and terminations on numbered
terminal strips in junction, pull, and outlet boxes; terminal cabinets; and equipment
enclosures.

F. Identification of Conductors and Cables: Color-code conductors and apply wire and cable
marking tape to designate wires and cables to identify media in coordination with
system wiring diagrams.

G. Wall-Mounting Outlets: Flush mounted.

3.2 TESTING

A. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to


inspect field-assembled components and equipment installations, including connections.
Report results in writing.

B. Operational Test: Perform tests that include alarm components and call points.

C. Schedule tests with at least seven days' advance notice of test performance.

3.3 SPARE PARTS AND EXTRA MATERIAL

A. Contractor shall provide Manufacturer recommended spare parts for all major
components in the system for two years fault free operation.

B. However, a minimum of 2% peripherals of each type installed, but not less than one
from each type shall be included in the deliverable irrespective of Manufacturer
recommendation.

C. During the Warranty Period, the Contractor shall provide, at his cost, all required spare
parts needed to replace existing components unless it is proved that the component to
be replaced was damaged by abuse.

D. The Contractor shall guarantee the flow and availability of the spare parts without a
major design change for at least ten years period.

3.4 TRAINING

A. The Contractor shall be required to conduct end-user training on Jabal Omar (JO)
premises, tailored specifically to Jabal Omar (JO) 's particular requirements in the use,
configuration and maintenance of the Disabled Toilet Call System.

B. Training shall be provided for Technical Staff of the Employer in the Testing,
Maintenance and Fault Location of the system.

C. For each product, the Contractor shall provide a detailed description of the training the
Manufacturer will provide.

D. Trainers:
1. All training shall be certified training by Manufacturer and trainers shall be approved
by Jabal Omar (JO) before starting.

2. Engage a factory authorized service representative to explain programming and


operation of system and to train Employer's personnel on procedures and schedules
for maintaining, programming, operating, adjusting, troubleshooting, and servicing
the system.

E. Trainees:
Training for engineers on System operation and maintenance shall be for a minimum of
three (3) engineers.

F. Training Program:

1. Scope:

Training shall be in sufficient scope to ensure that all trainees who complete the
program will be certified as capable to operate and/or maintain the equipment,
systems, and facilities provided and installed under this Contract, and to ensure a
smooth transition between construction and operations activities.

2. Language:

Training shall be conducted in English and Arabic.

3. Training Aids:

a. Training aids shall include:

1) Approved Operation and Maintenance (O & M) manual(s) prepared by the


Contractor as part of this Contract,
2) Training manuals, including course outline, basic text of instructions modules,
and trainee workbook,
3) Charts, models, hand-outs, catalogues,
4) Samples and other visual,
5) Written aids to complement instruction.

b. In addition, spare parts and other special hardware shall be provided to support
“hands-on” familiarization with the equipment or systems.

4. Training Manuals:

a. Training manuals shall be provided for each training course covering both the
classroom and on-the-job phases.
b. The organization of the manuals shall follow the same sequence as the course’s
scheduled presentation of material, providing such additional background and

supplementary information, as a trainee may need to understand the O & M


manuals.
c. There shall be as many Training Manual types as Trainees categories.

5. Training Execution:

a. Scope:

Training shall be performed in accordance with an approved training program. All


training aids shall be available and approved prior to start of training.

b. Maintenance Training:

1) Maintenance training shall cover all on-site routine, preventive, and remedial
maintenance of the system/sub-system.
2) This training shall include, but not be limited to:

a) Orientation to provide overview of system/sub-system purpose, configuration,


and operations.
b) Terminology.
c) Operations theory and interfaces.
d) Equipment appearance, layout, functions, concepts and operations.
e) Operating modes, practice, and procedures under normal and emergency
conditions.
f) Safety precautions.
g) Use of tools and test equipment.
h) Use of system utilities, diagnostic software and various software tools
associated with the system maintenance.
i) Preventive maintenance.
j) Troubleshooting, diagnostics, and testing.
k) Backup and restoration of software/configuration.
l) Assembly and disassembly.
m) Repair and parts replacement.
n) Parts ordering practices and storage.
o) Failure and recovery procedures.
p) System/sub-system cabling.
