Beauty and The Beast JR - Audition Material
For your audition, prepare a monologue and a song cut from this Audition Material Pack to perform
as your audition pieces. Please memorize all selected material. Students will be seen one at a time in
the order of the sign up sheet that will be available by the time you arrive on site. Each slot will last
for 5 minutes. After that, before the dance audition, we might call you back to read sides. The
auditions will be video recorded by the production team, for internal use only. No videos will be
published.
Complete the attached Audition Form and bring it with you on the audition day!
The results of the auditions in the form of a cast list will be presented in person on April 17th.
Best regards,
Character Breakdown: Mrs. Potts is the castle’s endearing British cook who has become a teapot.
You need to be strong but sweet, and should be able to convey comforting, maternal qualities
amidst the chaos that is breaking out in the castle, acting as a loving mother-figure to all other
characters.
Monologue: “Well, what would you have us do? Give up? I like this girl. I like her spunk. I think that
may be the first time I’ve ever heard him use that word. (BELLE pokes her head out of her room)
Hello, dearie. I hope the Master didn’t frighten you too much. He can be a little... temperamental. If
there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable, let me know! Cogsworth, the lady
needs some nourishment!... Oh, pish posh! I’m not about to let the poor child go hungry!”
Song Cut: Be Our Guest, Measures 81-118 of the sheet music (pages 62-64 of the script:

Character Breakdown: Gaston is pompous and dim-witted and will do whatever it takes to win
Belle’s hand. Gaston has all the confidence in the world but lacks the humility to balance it. You need
to be able to sell your big eponymous number with gusto and arrogance as well as lead the Villagers.
Biceps can be added to the costume, but the attitude needs to come from within!
Monologue: “Hellooo… Belle! How can you read that? There’s no pictures! (beat) Belle, it’s about
time you got your head out of these books and paid attention to more important things. (strikes a
pose) Belle, this is the day your dreams come true! Oh yeah, I know all about them. Picture this. A
rustic hunting lodge. You, my little wife, massaging my feet while the strapping boys play on the floor
with the dogs. We’ll have six or seven. Boys, not dogs. So Belle, what’ll it be? (BELLE leaves) That
Belle, always playing hard to get. She turned me down for now, but I’ll have Belle for my wife. Make
no mistake about that!”
Song Cut: Mob Song, Measures 25-48 of the sheet music (pages 102-104 of the script:
