Stairs Geometry Local and International Standards

The document discusses standards and requirements for designing stairs geometry according to Czech technical standards and regulations. It notes that stair steps should all be the same height and width, horizontal, and without inclination. However, many contractors design stairs based on minimizing labor rather than ergonomics. Measurements of existing stair steps in Czech buildings found 95% complied with 5 mm deviations allowed by German standards. The key parameters are the rise and going of steps, and formulas are provided to calculate recommended height dimensions within the range of 590 to 690 based on the height to width ratio.

Stairs Geometry local and international standards:

To design the stairs in such a way that it should be easy to use and to keep in mind the safety.
For this purpose the Czech technical standards and regulations research article is helpful to
make the useful stairs design with proper dimensions.
The requirements for selected geometric parameters of stair steps must be followed that
Czech technical standards and regulations so that it would be easy to construct the stairs design
easily. Generally, the requirements of these regulations are summarized as follows:
 "All the stairs to the walking line in one flight must have the same height and width and
must be horizontal, without inclination in the transverse or longitudinal direction.
 Most of the construction contractors not focused on the stairs design and design the
stairs according to their own way in which the less labor time required despite of
focusing the ergonomics concepts usage.
 Measurements of dimensions (rise and going) of the as-built stair steps (rise and going)
were executed. Measurements made in buildings in the Czech Republic showed that
about 95% of the measured deviations of step rise and going were not more than
5 mm, which complied with the requirements of the German technical standard.
Stair way safety:
Staircase dimensions should be designed with respect to stairway safety. It is important to
choose the right height (rise) and width (going) dimensions of stair steps to minimize the
risk of slipping or tripping.
Normally the noted figures are shown:

Requirements:

The most important parameters are the rise and going of stair steps and their geometrical
tolerances. The values required to design the stairs model at the right dimensions.
To obtained the values there are some formulas are used.
To find the recommended height, the height to width ratio of the stair steps is determined by
Formula: 2h+b=630
The resulting values must be in the range of 590 to 690.
