TRS401 SPEAKING
QUESTIONS
INTRUCTIONS.
There are two parts in the
speaking test.
Part 1: Panel Discussion
A group of 3 to 4 students
randomly picks up a topic from
the list. They have 3 minutes for
preparation and 5 minutes for
their discussion.

Part 2: Individual Response

There are 26 questions for
Individual Response. Choose one
for each student and the amount of
time for this session is from 1 to 2
minutes.

PART 1
1. What environmental
problem concerns you the
most? What are the causes,
effects and solutions for
this?
To be honest,
global
warming takes the
lead. Global
warming is the
increase of average
world
temperatures.
Causes: human
activity, primarily
the burning of fossil
fuels that pump
carbon dioxide
(CO2), methane and
other greenhouse
gasses into the
atmosphere.
Effects: Loss of
Natural Habitat
A global
shift in the
climate
leads to the
loss of
habitats of
several
plants and
animals. In
this case,
the animals
need to
migrate
from their
natural
habitat and
many of
them even
become
extinct.
This is yet
another
major
impact of
global
warming
on
biodiversit
y.
Rise in
Temperatur
e
Global
warming
has led to
an
incredible
increase in
earth’s
temperatur
e. Since
1880, the
earth’s
temperatur
e has
increased
by ~1
degrees.
This has
resulted in
an increase
in the
melting of
glaciers,
which have
led to an
increase in
the sea
level. This
could have
devastating
effects on
coastal
regions.
Climate
Change—
Global
warming has
led to a
change in
climatic
conditions.
There are
droughts at
some places
and floods at
some. This
climatic
imbalance is
the result of
global
warming.
Suggest some
measures to stop global warming.
1.Reuse and
recycle
2.Plant trees and
protect forest
resources.
3.Replace
traditional light
bulbs with LED
lights.
4.Limit the use of
heaters and air
conditioners
5.Promote the use
of clean energy.
6.Limit the use of
nylon bags.
7.Turn off the
power when not
in use.
8.Infrastructure
improvement and
upgrade
9.Eat smart,
increase
vegetables and
fruits
10.Applying new
technologies in
protecting the
Earth
2. Why is 'design thinking'
important for the
user's experience with
products, apps or services?
Design thinking is the way
of thinking that focuses on
the problem’s customer or
the need’s user. Then the
company designs solutions
with that personal mind.
It all starts with empathy,
that means understanding
someone’s problems and
needs. If you care to
understand what your
customers need, you’re
able to design products or
services that they’ll like.
The reason is it seeks to
meet the demands of the
user. Its aim is to provide
good experiences that
encourage users to stick with
a product or brand.
Furthermore, a meaningful
user experience enables you
to create consumer journeys
on your website that are
most conducive to
commercial success.
3. Many people believe
that zoos are cruel and
should be prohibited to
operate. Others,
however, believe that
they have the ability to
protect animals. Which
idea do you support?
● (đồng ý đóng
cửa) For me, zoos
are places where
animals are kept.
Animals lose their
freedom and are
not allowed to live
in natural
environments such
as forests and
mountains. They
can become
psychotic when
separated from the
wild. Because of
attracting visitors,
a lot of zoos train,
deter, and
intimidate the
animals. As I say, I
think zoos should
be closed.
● (ko đồng ý) In
my opinion, zoos
protect animals
from human
predation. In
addition, according
to the Vietnam
Newspaper,
compared with
animals living in
the wild, species
raised in zoos often
live longer because
they are provided
with nutritious
food, are given
health care and
have shelter. Safe
hiding, limiting the
risk of being
attacked.
Moreover, we can
easily study about
animals if we go to
the zoos.
4. Do you agree that
creating HYBRID
ANIMALS (động vật lai)
is against nature and that
it may lead to negative
effects? Give examples to
support your view.
-I agree that hybrid
animals will lead to
negative effects.
-Hybrid animals are
contrary to human reality.
-For example, a mule is a
cross between a donkey
and a horse. In
appearance, the mule
resembles a donkey more
than a horse. The mule
has 63 chromosomes
while the horse has 64 and
the mule has 62 hence the
mule is not fertile.
-Hybrid animals offer no
benefit to humans or to
biology. Its presence is
almost zero, so hybrid
animals are often
forgotten and
meaninglessly die
5. For some people
learning about history
does not have huge value
in the modern world. Do
you agree or disagree?
Agree: Because past
events are no longer true
and consistent with reality.
For example, Vietnam's
attitude towards
diplomatic relations with
other countries is different.
Today Vietnam is neutral
and does not take sides in
the settlement of the
dispute.Vietnam's
abstention from the
Russia-Ukraine conflict is
a demonstration of the
bravery and wisdom of
Vietnam's diplomacy. Do
not let our country be
dragged into factions and
political chessboards
between the ambitions of
big countries and then
affect people's lives.

Disagree: In the modern

world, it cannot be denied
that examining the past
could be unbelievably
valuable in terms of
understanding of our
modern world problems.
There is a saying that
suggests that "history
repeats itself", for this
reason, if we delve into
history, examine it without
leaving any detail behind,
we will have more
opportunities to anticipate
forthcoming problems and
it is undeniable that
problems would be solved
very easily. Human
conflicts, inventions and
social issues in all the ages
are quite similar and this is
what makes the study of
the past so important.
Without studying the past
we cannot understand why
a certain civilization
flourished among others
and why nations were
destroyed. This knowledge
can give us such wisdom
that would help us
progress further.
6. In this modern world,
people believe that
saving endangered
species is just a waste of
time, energy, money and
effort. To what extent do
you agree or disagree?
Agree: Endangered
animals are caused by
habitat loss. When the
habitat is not suitable,
animals will have to
evolve or go extinct so it
makes no sense to save
them. Honestly, it's very
difficult to know what the
perfect environment for
animals to thrive in.
Especially animals will
lose their inherent
behavior when raised by
humans. It's a waste of
money and time to
research instead of
researching ways to limit
habitat loss.
Disagree: Protecting
endangered animals has a
lot of benefits for the
environment and humans.
● Biodiversity :
The loss of one
species affects
many other
species. Especially
for species that
play an important
role in the
ecosystem, their
extinction can lead
to unpredictable
consequences. For
example, if frogs
disappear, the
number of insects
like mosquitoes
will increase,
which causes many
diseases for
humans.
● Environmental
balance: Species
that have the
ability to indicate
the environment
will warn people
about the impact of
climate change and
pollutants on the
environment. For
example, the rapid
decline in the
populations of bald
eagles and falcons
in the mid-20th
century is a strong
warning of a once
widely used
powerful
insecticide (which
impairs fertility
and interferes with
successful
incubation of these
animals).
7. In Vietnamese
Education, is studying
history important? How
can teachers teach
history in a more
interesting way?
There are two sites for
studying history in
Vietnam. One way of
thinking is that learning
history is important and
another is different.
Lịch sử quan
trọng: Studying history to
understand the origins of
ancestors, ancestors,
villages, origins of their
nation. Knowing how
ancestors and forefathers
lived and worked to create
the country today, from
which to appreciate what
they have; grateful to those
who made it, as well as
knowing what to do for the
country. Studying history
is also to know what
mankind did in the past to
build a civilized society
today.
Lịch sử không quan
trọng: History are not as
important to students as
many other subjects.
Students see things more
realistically, they focus on
technology, the economy,
jobs, practical things in
life. When not studying
History, students still have
a great understanding and
knowledge of Vietnamese
history through a variety
of media.
To be honest, most history
teachers rely too much on
textbooks, not creating
interest for students.
Students only read, listen,
and write without
knowledge or interest.
That makes students hate
history.
More interesting way:
Teachers should change
the way they teach by
showing them videos,
movies or telling stories.
Students can visit
historical sites or have
presentations and debates
about history.
8. "Genetic Engineering
can make the life of
humans better." Do you
agree or disagree?
Agree: It helps people
have the genes they wish,
like taller or intelligent and
beautiful appearances will
change their
characteristics. Example in
a family, DNA really
affects children. All of us
want to have the best
genes. I think genetic
modification is good, it
helps people have a better
life, and sick people can be
healthy again.
Disagree: science hasn't
developed to the point
where it can accurately
replace DNA. So we can't
be sure that the results it
gives are good or bad. If
the outcome is bad, it can
lead to more serious
diseases. To be honest,
making people smarter is
not bad but the problem is
that rich people will be the
only ones who will be able
to pay for it. And society
will become less fair than
we want.
9. Are you in favor of
animal experimentation?
What would happen if
some animals
disappeared on earth?
Agree: Animals with
human-like texture: Animals are
suitable subjects of study because
they are quite similar to humans
in many ways. Chimpanzees are
99% similar to human DNA and
mice are 98% genetically similar
to humans. All mammals,
including humans, are descended
from a common ancestor and all
share the same body parts (heart,
kidneys, lungs, etc.). Because
animals and humans are so
biologically similar, they are
susceptible to many of the same
diseases, including heart disease,
cancer, and diabetes.

Disagree: Leads to the

wrong decision: Animal testing
could lead researchers to overlook
potential cures. Some chemicals
are ineffective or harmful to
animals, but have therapeutic
value in humans. For example,
aspirin can be dangerous to some
animals, or intravenous vitamin C
has been shown to be effective in
treating sepsis in humans, but
makes no difference in mice.
What would happen if
some animals
disappeared on earth?
If nature and wildlife were
to disappear, we wouldn't
exist either. We are all part
of a common ecosystem,
what we hurt, it hurts us
back. If some animals
disappear from the Earth’s
surface, then the
ecological balance will be
disturbed. These animal
species, including humans,
are all interdependent. Can
humans survive without
animals? Unfortunately
not, as animals contribute
to nature in ways that we
will never be able to. For
example, without bees,
many plants and therefore
our food, will not be able
to be produced. Without
birds, seeds will not be
dispersed, and many trees
will disappear.
10. In some cities, a
large part of the land is
preserved for historical
reasons. Some people
believe that these lands
should be transformed
into modern
infrastructure instead.
Do you agree or
disagree?
-In my opinion, not every
place, every country has a
long history or historical
monuments. I think we
need to protect it, protect
historic sites and historic
places to remind us of the
great history.
-Besides, the country and
society also need to
integrate and develop.
People must build and
develop cities for society
to develop, so the
development of modern
infrastructure also needs
to be focused.
-So we can keep a part of
historical places and
monuments, but at the
same time build and
recreate modern
infrastructure. For
example, European
countries like France and
Germany still allow the
construction of expensive,
modern cities, but there
are still some cities that
are required to keep
ancient architectures and
historical sites.
11. Discuss some
advantages and
disadvantages of genetic
engineering. Explain
your viewpoints with
specific reasons and
examples.
-The essence of genetic
engineering is to change
the genetic makeup of an
organism to make it
healthier, stronger or
more useful to humans.
-The advantage of genetic
engineering is that it can
help people change their
genes to make them
healthier or simply change
them to make them
happier.
-For example, if someone
wants to have whiter skin,
blonde hair, blue eyes or
wants to be smarter, they
will have to use genetic
engineering to change.
Genetic engineering also
helps people change
diseased genes to replace
them with healthier ones
to avoid inherited diseases
like cancer or diabetes.
12. If rich people can
take advantage of
CRISPR (Gene editing to
become smarter, faster,
stronger) this will create
an unfair society. Do you
agree or disagree?
-I'm not sure about this
because at the moment
human technology is not
enough to be able to do
gene editing without any
risk.
-And I'm not sure if those
rich people dare to take
risks in exchange for their
own lives. I guess no one
dares to risk themselves
like that and even if
someone does, after the
editing is done they run a
high risk of other diseases
that can cause their death.
-However, we can
completely believe that in
the future when science
and technology are more
advanced, we can safely
perform gene editing.
Why don't we think that it
will help people edit
disease genes to be
healthier instead of
seeking justice for the
poor.
13. How do humans
negatively affect
animals? What are some
ways to protect them?
-People illegally hunt and
kill animals. We hunt and
kill animals illegally. We
take their tusks, horns,
honey, … to trade, make
illegal drugs and
propagate false
information. We cut trees,
clear forests to build
buildings, and do projects.
All these activities take
away the resources and
habitat of plants and
animals. Human activity
often alters or destroys
the habitats that plants
and animals need to
survive.
-The only way to protect
animals is to propagate
and mobilize people to
know about animals. We
must increase our
understanding of animal
protection, especially rare
species. In addition,
hunting, animal killing and
deforestation are
prohibited.
14. What are effective
business ways to reach
your customers?
-That's marketing.
Marketing is a very
important step in business
strategy. A marketing
strategy helps attract
customers with a
company's products or
services and from there
can reach customers.
-I think reaching
customers through
advertising is also a very
effective way. Because
when customers see ads,
they can know the
features, design and
functions of the product.
From there, they decide to
buy that product or not

15. Discuss some possible

steps to produce a
successful class
presentation.
-Creating a successful
presentation requires a lot
of preparation. The first is
the idea and content, any
successful presentation
also needs good content
and a creative idea. The
second is an investment,
no matter what you do, it
requires an investment of
effort. Need to take care,
invest brainpower, invest
in powerpoint, spend a lot
