Chapter 1: Before Starting

⚫ Equipment needs
1. PC.
2. Calibrator : Wavetek 9100.
3. Resistance fixture : 0, 500, 5k, 50k, 500, 5M, 38M ohm.
4. Diode fixture.

⚫ PC minimum system requirements


For the most reliable performance, your PC should meet following
requirements:

1. IBM or Compatible PC.


2. Pentium III 500 MHz or higher processor for Windows XP,
Pentium IV 2 GHz or higher processor for Windows Vista / 7.
3. 256 MB or higher RAM for Windows XP,
1 GB or higher RAM for Windows Vista / 7.
4. 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 high color 16 bits monitor.
5. At least 35 MB free hard disk space.

⚫ Diode fixture standard value defined


As shown below, When Constant current is 1mA, Vd is diode fixture
standard value.

Chapter 2: Installing & Uninstalling

⚫ Installing the CalWin507 Program


Please follow the instruction as below:

1. Put the CalWin507 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM cartridge.


2. Click on the windows “Start” button and select “Run…”
3. Select the “CD-ROM\Setup.exe” and run “Setup.exe” to install the
program into the hard disk.
4. Please follow the steps of the installation wizard to install the program.

⚫ Uninstalling the CalWin507 Program


Please follow the instruction as below:

1. Click on the windows “Start” button and select “Control Panel”.


2. Double click the “Add / Remove Programs” Icon.
3. Select the “CalWin507 v2.1”.
4. Click on the “Change Add / Remove” button to uninstall.

⚫ Installing the USB Cable Driver


After installed the CalWin507 program, when the USB cable will be used,
please install the USB cable driver by the instruction as below:

1. Put the CalWin507 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM cartridge.


2. Click on the windows “Start” button and select “Run…”
5. Select the “ CD-ROM\USB Driver\Setup.exe” and run “Setup.exe” to
install the driver into the hard disk.
6. Please follow the steps of the installation wizard to install the driver.
7. Plug the USB cable connector into USB socket, the windows will
detect this USB device automatically, and assigns the COM port
number to this USB device.

Chapter 3: Connecting Test

⚫ Connecting Meter & PC

1. Use the APPA optically isolated USB cable to connect PC and the
meter.
2. Starting the “CalWIN507 v2.1” program“.
3. The program starts to scan the COM port number and shows on the
screen.
4. After the connection is made, connection indicator is green, otherwise
indicator is red.
5. The program to connect up to 8 the DMM, but the COM Port only up
to COM9.
6. As shown below, Start COM is COM3. From left to right , respectively,
it’s the COM3~COM9 connection indicator.

⚫ Connecting Wavetek 9100 & PC

1. Use the GPIB-USB cable to connect PC and the Wavetek 9100.


2. Starting the “CalWIN507 v2.1” program“.
3. Click “Menu Bar Tools Wavetek 9100 test”.
4. The PC with the Wavetek 9100 connection status dialog box will
appear.

⚫ Troubleshooting : Meter & PC can not connect

1. Click windows “Device Manager” and confirm the USB cable device
operating properly.

2. If the device doesn’t operate properly, please reinstall the driver.


Installation steps please refer Chapter 2

3. If the device operate properly, but the COM port number isn’t in the
COM1~COM9, please change COM port number. Refer the figure as
below
Step 1 : Click mouse right button to select “Properties”.
Step 2 : Select “Port Settings” and click “Advanced…” button.
Step 3 : Select COM port number in the COM1~COM9.
Step 4 : Click “OK” button to save setting.

⚫ Troubleshooting : Wavetek 9100 & PC can not connect

1. Click windows “Device Manager” and confirm the GBIP-USB cable


device operating properly.

2. If the device doesn’t operate properly, please reinstall the driver or


consult the cable manufacturers to solve.
3. If the device operate properly, but the GPIB Bus address isn’t 18,
please change GPIB Bus address from the Wavetek 9100 panel.
4. Modify GPIB Bus address method, please refer to the Wavetek 9100
user manual.

Chapter 4: How to use CalWin507

⚫ Interface of the CalWin507 Program

Menu Bar
1. File Open Process File…
Open the individual calibration file, these files are all read only.
2. File Save Record Table…
To save calibration data as Excel file.
3. File Print Window…
To print CalWIN507 window screen
4. File Exit
To close CalWIN507 program.

Start COM & Allow the connection Meter number


You can select “Start COM” to COM1~COM9, and select the connection
Meter number up to 8 pieces.
But the last connection meter only up to COM9, so allow the connection
Meter number will be limited sometimes.

The individual Meter data


The individual Meter data assignment is from left to right according to
"Start COM".

Calibration Start/Stop buttons


These buttons are enable/disable according to the Meter’s rotary switch
knob position.
If the connected Meter’s rotary switch knob position isn’t the same, all
these buttons will be disable.

⚫ Operation of the V, mV Calibration

V Calibration
1. Put the Meter’s rotary switch knob in the V position.
2. The Wavetek 9100 V-COM output terminal insert to the Meter V-COM
terminal, and the V-COM terminal between the Meter using parallel
connection.
3. Click the “V” button on CalWIN507 panel to start calibration.

mV Calibration
1. Put the Meter’s rotary switch knob in the mV position.
2. The Wavetek 9100 V-COM output terminal insert to the Meter V-COM
terminal, and the V-COM terminal between the Meter using parallel
connection.
3. Click the “mV” button on CalWIN507 panel to start calibration.

⚫ Operation of the A, mA, Loop Power Calibration

A Calibration
1. Put the Meter’s rotary switch knob in the A position.
2. The Wavetek 9100 A output terminal insert to the first Meter A terminal,
the Wavetek 9100 COM output terminal insert to the last Meter COM
terminal, and the A-COM terminal between the Meter using series
connection.
3. Click the “A” button on CalWIN507 panel to start calibration.
4. Limited to Wavetek 9100 driver ability, the Meter number is most 3
pieces.

mA Calibration
1. Put the Meter’s rotary switch knob in the A position.
2. The Wavetek 9100 A output terminal insert to the first Meter mA
terminal, the Wavetek 9100 COM output terminal insert to the last
Meter COM terminal, and the mA-COM terminal between the Meter
using series connection.
3. Click the “mA” button on CalWIN507 panel to start calibration.
4. Limited to Wavetek 9100 driver ability, the Meter number is most 3
pieces.

Loop Power Calibration


1. Put the Meter’s rotary switch knob in the Loop Power position.
2. The Wavetek 9100 A output terminal insert to the first Meter mA
terminal, the Wavetek 9100 COM output terminal insert to the last

Meter COM terminal, and the mA-COM terminal between the Meter
using series connection.
3. Click the “Loop Power” button on CalWIN507 panel to start
calibration.
4. Limited to Wavetek 9100 driver ability, the Meter number is most 3
pieces.

⚫ Operation of the Ohm Calibration


1. Put the Meter’s rotary switch knob in the Ohm position.
2. Click the “Ohm” button on CalWIN507 panel to start calibration.
3. The resistance fixture insert to the Meter V-COM terminal according to
the steps of the CalWIN507 then Click “Confirm” button to continue
calibrating. The figure as below.

⚫ Operation of the Diode Calibration
1. Put the Meter’s rotary switch knob in the Ohm position.
2. Click the “Diode” button on CalWIN507 panel to start calibration.
3. Input Diode fixture standard value then click the “OK” button. The
Diode fixture standard value measurement method please refer
Chapter 1. The figure as below, 500 meant 500mV.

4. The Resistance or Diode fixture insert to the Meter V-COM terminal


according to the steps of the CalWIN507 then Click “Confirm” button
to continue calibrating.
